How to Advertise a Fitness Business
A Fitness Business Advertising Guest Post by J. Brown
So you've started your fitness business, found your location, set your schedule, and are ready to get started on advertising and growing your business. The first place you have to start to advertise your fitness business is to identify your target market. If you don't know who you're targeting, then you're going to be wasting a lot of advertising dollars that you could be using for other things. You may of course have several different target markets that you'll deal with in separate fitness advertising campaigns.
For example, you may be offering group training, one-on-one, boot camp and other fitness services. Obviously your advertising will be a little different for each group. You'll want to sit down and figure out who you will attack each one by first identifying the members of your target market: are they male, female, or a co-ed group? Are you offering high end services, or a larger group class for a lower rate? Once you've identified your fitness market you'll be able to start considering where you want to advertise and how to do it.
There are some easy free or extremely inexpensive ways to advertise, one of the most obvious ways is to use your clients as human billboards. Get them some t-shirts with your gym or fitness program name on it and voila, you've turned them into a walking fitness business advertisement.
If you don't have enough clients to do this effectively yet, try finding models or attractive people to train for free. Not only will you be able to use them as a human billboard, but you'll be able to get more clients as they see that you already have a group of people working out, and you'll definitely be able to pull in more clients as they see attractive people in the group. Works like a charm.
Another great free personal training advertising tool is Craigslist, depending on where you are trying to advertise your fitness business. Craigslist works better in some areas than others because it is just less popular and has less users in certain areas. But it tends to have a pretty strong following in most US cities, which makes it a great place to start throwing up fitness advertisements. You'll want to make sure to use before and after pictures and have a link to your website, or a phone number to reach you at. And don't just say things like "Personal Trainer in _____ City." This may be your only chance to get a hold of some of these people, so you have to really make sure you have a strong fitness advertisement.
There are a TON of other ways you can advertise your fitness business, but you will probably want to spend some time learning how to write great sales copy and maybe invest in a course or two on how to advertise a fitness business. There is a lot of great information on this website, and if you search for "fitness marketing" online you'll get a lot of great ideas on how to direct your advertising campaign.
