Starting a Fitness Boot Camp

A Fitness Boot Camp Guest Post by Jackie B.

It can be a big challenge trying to figure out what you need to do when starting a fitness boot camp, but this site is a great resource for fitness boot camps and has lots of free content that can help you get your business off the ground and going great. Here are some additional short pointers you can use. Before you start a fitness boot camp you need to consider a few things and work on a plan to get your boot camp going.

First of all you need to pick a good location. Do you have a facility you can use? Does it have enough open space to accommodate a large group? A gym or other facility is obviously a great choice if available because it can be used year round no matter the weather, but many boot camps are held outdoors and work very well that way. One thing to keep in mind with an outdoor boot camp is whether you are using a public park or not and if it is a public park, what are the rules for the park. Some public parks regulate operating a business or boot camp on their property and require a license to do so. You'll definitely want to look into this before you commit to a location.

The next thing you need to plan out is the schedule for your boot camp. A lot of this will depend on the clients you are trying to attract to your boot camp. Most boot camps are run daily in the early morning and/or evening hours. However, if the clients you're targeting are stay at home mom's, then you may want to offer a late morning boot camp. Just keep in mind the schedule of your target market and you'll be able to pick a good time to schedule your fitness boot camp

One thing that confuses a lot of people when starting a fitness boot camp is where to get clients from. Your marketing for a fitness boot camp will be very similar to the marketing you would do for a personal training program (which you can find more details about on other pages of this website).

  • You'll want to have a solid sales copy website up that can funnel clients to you and make sure that your site is optimized.
  • Also consider using your local Craigslist for online ads.
  • Invest in some business cards to hand out
  • Find people to train for free for a while so that your boot camp looks full and the people you train for free can help you with referrals
  • If you train at a park then make sure to keep up a sign so others passing by can see what's going on and will have a way of knowing who you are and contacting you if they are interested in what they see.

Another consideration with setting up a boot camp is how you will bill your clients.  Whatever you do DO NOT take cash per session and avoid paying for sessions weekly.  You'll spend all of your time collecting money instead of growing your boot camp.  Starting a fitness boot camp is stressful enough without having to hound people for money!  Instead get some contracts together and have your clients sign up to pay monthly in advance, preferably using EFT.  That way you don't have to deal with the hassle of collecting payments, and your client will be billed at the same time every month.

* Results are not typical. Advertised results are only typical of people who worked their tails off and followed every one of the fitness marketing strategies and personal training tips that I outline on my site to really explode their fitness business. Also, if you click on a link on my site to someone else's product, there's a good chance I'm makin' a profit off of it, probably even a steep one.
