Become a Fitness Trainer and Be Successful!

A Become a Fitness Trainer Guest Post by J. Brown

Many people who are excited about fitness and health and are looking for a job that isn’t sitting behind a desk pushing paper all day think that they would be great as a personal trainer.  While it is great to become a fitness trainer, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication that some people don’t think about beforehand, or don’t bother to invest into their goal to become a fitness trainer.  But, if you take these steps you will be able to grow your business and not only have a fun job, but be successful at it!

Because, for one thing, if you become a fitness trainer and don’t follow these steps it will quickly stop being a fun job and can turn into a major stress on your life, which is exactly what you do not want.  This industry is about motivating people and helping them get into shape and improve their lives through fitness, but wanting to help people and having the skills to train someone isn’t enough to make you successful.  You need to have a solid business strategy and a good marketing plan to make sure that your business grows.

First you need to consider what your target market is.  Are you running boot camps, group training, one-on-one?  If you’re training in larger groups is there a gym facility in your area that will a) allow you to train groups of people and b) be able to accommodate a larger group?  When you become a fitness trainer you may also want to consider if you’re training indoors or outdoors, and what to do if you live in an area with seasons that could interfere with your outdoor boot camp.

Once you have a location ready and know your target market, you can start marketing your personal training business in a way that targets your market and brings you clients that you need…and ones that you want.  When you first become a fitness trainer you will need to market a little differently to get your business off the ground.  One good approach is to walk up to one person every day of the month and offer to train them for free in exchange for referrals and telling their friends about you.  Doing this and networking is a GREAT way to jump start your personal training business and get you new clients in no time.

After you become a fitness trainer and have some clients you’ll notice that other personal trainers can be tough competition, so you need to keep learning and finding new ways to market your business.  Make sure to set aside enough time each week for you to plan out your business and study new ways to improve it so you can not only help your clients, but also enjoy being a personal trainer!
