So you're thinking about starting a personal training career…here are some things you should keep in mind to really have a successful business.  You probably got into this business thinking you love fitness, working out, and helping people achieve their goals, which is awesome, but if you're not careful you could end up slaving away and not making any money because when starting a personal training career you didn't stop to think and plan out the business side of it.

First of all with starting a personal training career you will want to make sure you have the right certificates and education.  Research the certifications that gyms may require, and the certification organizations to make sure you are getting your monies worth.  While having a certification is important to a lot of people and to the gym facilities, there is no need to go crazy getting a million of them or tacking on all kinds of specializations unless you're really targeting a unique small market.  In reality, if you're looking at starting a personal training career you don't have to have a bunch of specializations.

In the process of figuring out what gyms require as far as certificates, you probably already thought about where you want to train and spoke to those gyms.  Since you know the area you want to train in, your next important step in starting a personal training career is to start advertising to your target market.  Get a great website set up that you can send people to, because the internet is a HUGE aspect of marketing these days, and everyone is online.  If you can get people to visit your website and your website has great content like a solid salescopy, headlines, and is easy to read you will have an easier time marketing yourself.

You can start advertising your personal training business by using online tools like Craigslist or social networking sites.  Of course when starting a personal training career you will need to build your client base pretty quickly, so you'll have to learn to use in person ways of getting clients by introducing yourself to strangers, offering to train people for free in exchange for referring their friends to come train with you.
