Tips on Marketing Your Personal Training Services

A Personal Training Marketing Guest Post by Joe. T

“How do I market my personal training services?”

If you are new to the business and are without clients, this is possibly the most important question you will ever ask yourself at the beginning. After all, having clients makes your business work (read: earn money). Without them, you have no business altogether.

But before I tell you how you can market your services, let me first tell you this: you don’t need to spend a lot of money to do your marketing. If you market your services wisely by targeting the right people then you don’t waste a lot of money.

Having said that, let’s move on to how you can market your services.

First of all, you must find a way to reach your target market. You can advertise on publications or on billboards if you have a marketing budget. However, if you are just starting out and cash-strapped, you can begin by simply seeking your family and friends’ help to spread the word out about your business.

They can pass the word on by word of mouth, through e-mail or through other means. The beauty behind this is that these are people who really believe in the work that you do. And best of all, you don’t have to pay them in helping you spread the word out.

Once you have a good number of clients under your name, also ask your regular clients’ help to get more clients for you. Of course, you can’t expect them to do it for free so entice them by offering them discounts or freebies for every people that they refer to you. It works both ways – you keep your regular clients happy and you get more clients in return.

But while you will mostly get new clients through word of mouth marketing and getting clients through referrals, there are still other ways on how you can do it.

For one, make speaking engagements whenever you can especially in your area. The more visible you become in conventions, the more establish yourself as an expert in your field. And you should know that most people will only want to work with fitness experts – and they are willing to pay you good money for it.

It also helps if you have a website. You can put on your website as much information as you can about your services and even there, you can already entice them to try signing up with you. Show them your facilities. Show them your method. Show them how different you are from other personal trainers.

Add a blog to your website and you will surely get even more clients that way. Why? Because people love free stuff first and foremost. Provide them with free information and eventually, a number of them will want to train under you to get the most of what you have to offer. Aside from that, the articles that you put up also reinforce the fact that you are an expert in your field.

Finally, you can also offer them exclusive newsletters in return for their e-mail addresses. This is called opt-in marketing. It is where people agree to let them sell something to you aside from the usual content from your newsletters. If you have an e-mail list, you can offer them ebooks, books, t-shirts or whatever product you can think of it. But keep in mind to provide a balance between providing useful information and your sales e-mails. Otherwise, you could be accused of spamming and lose your loyal clients.

Of course, there are other ways by which you can market your personal training services. The ones I put here are just some of the most effective marketing techniques, both online and off. Try to add them into your marketing mix and find out which techniques work best for you.

* Results are not typical.
