Definite Things to Remember While Selling Personal Training…
Selling Personal Training
By Guest Poster Tiphanie
So, when was the last time any of you went on Craigslist? (who is Craig anyways?) Log on, check out lessons and tutoring, and it'll only take you half a second to figure out that just about every unemployed and/or unemployable individual in the county is in there selling their personal training services; some of them quite poorly. Maybe that was a bit of an unfair statement, granted, there are some of us in there posting that really put some heart, sweat and tears into our work and what we do, and dammit, we do it well! With that said, I want to talk a little bit about effective methods of selling personal training.
The internet is a great tool to use for selling personal training. Devote a little bit of time to come up with a great website. Post videos, testimonials of some of your star students complete with before and after photos. I can write all day about how my training sessions are better than anyone's out there and no one will really buy it, but once there's some visuals for them to go off of, I'll have a much better chance of making my point, and making it well. Also keep a blog running so that you can keep in touch with your existing clients and the potential ones. Letting clients get their feedback about how great their sessions are going is another great way to spread the word.
When posting ads online for the purpose of selling personal training services, you need to make sure that you stand out above the rest. Make a great first impression. Be sure that your ad includes plenty of before and after pictures, as again, visuals are always a plus. Be sure that you have a great catch phrase, and of course a link to your site. Take some time to check out some of your competition's ads, and step theirs up a notch–don't get gaudy with it, but make sure it's up there above the rest of them. Also, remember that it doesn't hurt to have more than one ad up at a time.
Not everyone has access to a computer, hard to believe I know, but very true. Put together some eye catching flyers that you can post up in local businesses. You can also advertise in some local magazines or community newspapers, gym bulletin boards(there's even ones up when you walk into some super markets) Put together some posters to put up at freeway off ramps, and street corners. I always see signs for foreclosures, or places to rent, bail bondsmen….. you get the point. There's a somewhat captive audience that you can capture this way.
Selling personal training is just like advertising for any business, no matter how awesome your ads and website are, it all comes down to how you treat your clients. When you go to get your haircut, or choose a doctor, anything that's a somewhat personal service, you make a decision on whether or not you're going back based on two things: How you are treated, and how well they do their job. Choosing a trainer isn't much different. You have to have Personality and a genuine interest in your clients. If you're fake; they can feel it. Find out their goals, what influenced them to start on this venture? Have fun with your clients. Make jokes, or try some little incentive games. When they reach a mile marker and have some real progress, make it a big deal! They've worked and sacrificed, and it feels good to have someone acknowledge this. Putting that personal touch is going to work toward your advantage when you're selling personal training. Your clients will tell their friends all about you, and peak their interest about coming to meet with you themselves.
Of course, it is equally important that you know what the hell you're doing and pay attention to your industry. Make sure that your routines are hard core and effective. Pain=success in the general public's mind. Have your clients crawling to their cubicles in the morning when they get to work. Watch out for new techniques and moves(but only if they're effective) If there's a new wave of workout regimens out there, be one of the first ones to catch it. This gives you an edge on your competition, and people will be standing in line to work with you.
Hopefully you'll find some of these tips for selling personal training handy, you've got to be your own pimp in this industry, so make sure and get yourself out on that corner looking better than anyone else!
