Multi-tasking Sucks…
Multi-tasking is about the biggest waste of time I can think of for the small business owner.
Too many health, fitness, and wellness professionals and business owners, spend their time jumping back and forth between phone calls, e-mails, text messages, responding to customer's needs, dealing with employees, all at the same time and they're not giving any of this stuff their full attention.
One of my favorite marketers, Eben Pagan talks about how multi-tasking lowers the IQ more than smoking pot. Well I 9 out of 10 small business owner that I know are absolute multi-tasking stoners, hitting the bong of countless interruptions…we're all guilty of dipping into that sack one too many occasions..
The problem is that when we try to get 10 things done at once we're not giving anything the attention and presence it deserves.
It's a hodge-podge of endless little to do's as we jump from little task to little task and at the end of they day, we didn't really do anything that needed to get done to move the business forward.
The best thing to do is to plan out the day and focus on one thing at a time and give that thing your fullest attention. I mean completely engage yourself in that thing. Shut off your cell phone, shut off your e-mail, turn the volume down on the text messages, let people know not to disturb you during this time and just jump in 100%. Give it everything you've got, all the full attention and determination a 16 year old boy trying to get laid for the first time.
Give the most important parts of your business, everything you have, and you fully engage yourself in them, and your love and energy for
what you do will come through and you will be mega successful.
Too many of us personal training business owners spend our time multi-tasking on doesn't bring in any revenue in, anyway, it's just little BS that isn't all that important, and the parts of it that are important, usually most of that should be outsourced to someone else so we can focus on the real revenue generating tasks like strategizing and creating effective marketing and sales systems.
If you find three things everyday and you gave those three things a focused amount of fully engaged time and do them until completion, and you did this every day for a year, in a year I think you'll be blown away where your business is.
