Do you want reliable, stable and predictable income? Sure you do, if you didn’t you’d probably be spending your time watching “American Idol” or whatever bubble-gum brain-candy of the week was on the boob tube instead of reading this article and expanding your mind…
Continuity is one of the most sure-fire ways to have a reliable and stable income in the health and fitness industry that I know of.
What you want to do is set your patients, clients or customers up on some kind of automatic billing program and you want that money to just come out of their bank – out of sight, out of mind – so they are just paying you and using your services on a regular basis without them having to think about it.
When I first started out as a personal trainer I used to charge people by cash or check and I would sell sessions, I would sell packages of 10 or 20 or 50 sessions. It was always a weird feeling when I had to ask for more money and I knew the client didn’t want to have to pull out their pocketbook and spend more money on my services. It would put this real funky vibe between me and them, hey I just wanted to train, I didn’t want to be a bill collector hitting them up for checks all the time
When they paid with checks they had to take an action to pay me. They had to pull out their checkbook and write a check. They had to to deal with the pain of parting with their hard earned money.
With a continuity program, they only need to take action one time to make sure you get paid, and that’s when they first sign the contract agreeing to the automatic payments. After that it’s on auto-pilot with the money coming directly out of their bank account or credit card or checking account and into your account automatically.
This way, for you not to get paid, they have to take an action (the action of canceling). So whereas before they had to take an action to pay you, now they have to take an action not to pay you.
There’s no reason you can’t find the continuity model to work in your business. If you’re a personal trainer, charge people automatically by the month for their workouts; if you’re a chiropractor, put people on a one or a two time a month maintenance program, charge their account automatically every month.
The health clubs already have this figured out, so if you own a health club, I’m sure you’re on top of this. But if you are a massage therapist, put your massage clients on a one or a two or four time a month automatic schedule. Maybe give them a little discount for signing up for the automatic billing. But this way it’s out of sight, out of mind.
The key is you want to make it as easy as possible for you to get paid, and asking for money from someone over and over isn’t always the best way to go
