Danny Morel on Succeeding in Life and Business

morelportrait.jpgChris McCombs (CM): Hi, I’m here with Danny Morel. Danny, could you tell us a little bit about your background, and who you are, and what you do?

Danny Morel (DM): Basically, right now I’m a speaker, I’m a coach, I’m a mentor for people who basically want to do more, be more, and have more in their lives. A little bit about my background is, I started, you know, came from poverty, and by the age of twenty-five became a millionaire, and now I’m out trying to show the world how to do the same, basically.

CM: Wow! How did you become a millionaire?

DM: You know, Chris, I basically decided that’s what I was going to be and that’s what happened, and it’s as simple as that. A lot of people need to make the decision to become what they want to become, whether it’s have more money, have more time, have better health. A lot of people don’t decide. The minute I decided, it only took me about three years to do.

CM: It took you three years to become a millionaire, from the moment you decided?

DM: Yes.

CM: That is incredible. So, what are the most important factors in becoming successful?

DM: You know, for me, I think the number one: start with a vision. For example, about four months ago, I decided that I was tired of weighing 188 pounds, and I said, you know what, no matter what happens, I’ve got to lose weight because I want to feel better and have less of me around.

CM: Sure.

DM: So, I just started to visualize exactly what I wanted my body to look like and feel like, and within a matter of 60 days, I lost 20 pounds.

CM: Nice.

DM: So, I have a vision that’s set out for my life. For the next 10 years of my life, I’ve written out an exact vision as to what I want my life to look like on January 1, 2013, and I fight every day, I work hard every day to make sure that vision comes true. Number two is consistency. You’ve got to be consistent as to whatever it is you decided to do. Consistency is the key to success. Most people have bad habits and their consistent at them. As long as they get good habits and stay consistent with those habits, they can become successful. There’s a lot of key principles to success, but I think the biggest one is: don’t ever quit. No matter what happens, no matter how bad it gets. There’s a lot of people whose emotions get in their way because they have a bad day, a bad week, a bad month. You’ve got to be able to step yourself out of it and don’t quit.

CM: That is powerful stuff. Tell me about the good habits.

DM: Good habits. Things like getting enough sleep. Things like waking up on time to make sure you have time to have a good workout and have, what I call, personal power time. What I do is I spend time with my Bible. I pray every day. I talk to God about what I want. I think about my goals. I think about the people that I’m going to come into contact with and how I can effect them positively. Write down, every day, the things you’re happy for, the things you’re thankful for, and the things you want to accomplish in your life – every single morning.

Another habit is good eating habits. What are you putting in your body? Is it going to keep you from success, or catapult you to success? Same thing with good thinking habits. What are you thinking about? What are you allowing your mind to focus on? If you think of lax, negativity, failure, doubt, and fear, you can never have abundance in your life. Abundance comes from thinking positive, from thinking success, from thinking that there’s possibilities everywhere for you.

CM: That’s going to bring me right into this next question, Danny. Danny, what is the law of spirit?

DM: Well, I believe this: I believe there’s something huge and it’s called the law of the spirit. I believe that every man has two parts to them, every human being. There’s the outer man and there’s the inner man, which is the spirit. With that spirit comes faith and belief in self. The problem is, is a lot of our spirits has been damaged because of things that happened to it in the past, so there comes negative self image, there comes doubt in one’s capability.

We’d like to think big, and think out of the box. And so a lot of people need to get reconnected with that spirit, that thing inside of them that, when they feel a motivational speaker, or when they hear that someone else was successful, that little voice inside of them that says, “I can do it, too.” And people need to get reconnected with that.

CM: Are there any tools trainers can use, like visualizations, or affirmations?

DM: Well, yeah. My belief is something called the ten-ten visualization. It’s a pretty simple exercise. Every day you write down ten things you’re thankful for and ten things you want in your life. Affirmations are a powerful one, and affirmations are very simple. You simply write down your goals, we’ve got some other tools, writing down your goals. For example, “I want to increase my net worth by $20,000,” so you write down that goal. “I want to create passive income,” you write down that goal. “I want to become healthier,” you write down that goal.

Then you change the goal to an affirmation. If your goal is, “I want to become healthier,” you would say, “I am a healthy individual in my mind, in my thoughts, and my body,” and that’s an affirmation. If you want to become wealthier, you would say something like this, “Money is everywhere, and it flows easily and effortlessly through me.” You first write down your goals, then you say the affirmations as if they were already happening.

CM: How many times do you say this?

DM: As many times as it takes to get your head out of your butt, basically.

CM: Okay. What about putting it with some music, maybe on a CD or something? You ever do anything like that?

DM: You know what, I think that works. I think a lot of it – I think the biggest thing is you saying them and recording it yourself and hearing yourself saying them everyday will get you in gear.

CM: How important do you think it is to really feel what it’s like, as if it’s happening now, so you’re saying, “I am…” How important is it to really feel that when you’re doing the affirmations?

DM: I think it’s everything because those feelings are the ones that transcend into that spirit and once you’re locked in with that spirit inside of you, anything’s possible. Anything is possible. So, yeah, I think feelings are a big part of it. Feelings are what guide our emotions, what guides out intuition, and I think in this particular case, your feelings are important because if you’re feeling down and out, guess what? There’s no way you can awaken that spirit within. No way, because you won’t do the things that you need do that are necessary. But if you’re feeling excited, if you’re feeling energized, if you’re feeling healthy, if you have discipline in your eating habits and your thought process, then anything’s possible for you. So, definitely feeling is important.

CM: So, let’s say that – let’s take a newbie at this kind of stuff, someone who hasn’t had a lot of success in the past, is not really able to get into that deep belief of knowing that their desired outcomes will come true, someone who is just starting out at this kind of thought – what would you say to them? Where would they start?

DM: Honestly, I would start by getting exposed to people who think bigger than they do. See, our company – what our company does is, it trains people on how to think bigger, number one. Number two, it helps them realize how their wired actually to just settle in life, and it exposes them to how they are actually keeping themselves to experiencing success. Look Chris, I was making $200,000 per year and at the end of the day, when I looked at myself, I was worth negative $44,000. Why? Because I was wired to spend every dime that I made. And I was wired to be afraid of all the investments that came my way. So once I did a little re-wiring, voila, in three years I became a millionaire.

CM: So what kind of re-wiring did you do? Is the stuff we’re talking about, the visualization and affirmations, or was there some other stuff?

DM: No. What I did was I sought out people that have experienced and done greater things than I’ve ever done. You see, one of the things we do, Chris, is we surround ourselves with people that make us feel comfortable about ourselves, or worse than that, a lot of times we surround ourselves with people that make us feel good about ourselves. In other words, we surround ourselves with people who are doing less than we are, because we want to feel good. Do you understand what I mean by that?

CM: Uh-huh.

DM: You see, the winners in this world surround themselves by people that are doing more than they’d ever imagined, because it forces them to grow. That’s what I did. I surrounded myself with people who were not only making two, three million dollars a year, but they also had great family life. They had great relationships with their kids and with their spouses. They were making a difference in their community, and that’s who I wanted to be. So I surrounded myself with people that were the way I wanted to be in the future.

CM: That is excellent advice. I actually do a lot of that myself, and I found the results pay off a hundredfold.

DM. Right.

CM. And usually, people are very grateful that you’ve come to them.

DM. Yeah, definitely, because, you know what, people who are successful, who are truly successful, not the egotistical, greedy people out there in this world that make money and it’s just to basically be flashy, no, people who live in abundance, those people are happy to help others out, happy to.

CM: So what about the person who, nothing’s going right in their life. They’ve been trying the stuff, they’ve been trying some affirmation, some visualization. They’ve been reading some books, but yet they look at their current circumstances, they’re still stuck in the job they can’t stand and a bad relationship, their bank account’s broke, and they just keep looking at their current circumstances and that’s just what they really believe they’re worth inside.

DM: I think that’s the problem, that they keep looking at their current circumstance. See, Chris, listen, when I first started my career, when I first started my career, I didn’t look at what was going on right now. I would constantly look at what I knew was going to happen in the future. And, yes, that takes something called Faith. In the Bible, in Hebrews 11, God talks about faith. God talks about the power of faith, the power of believing in the unknown. And he gives example after example after example of how the people in the Bible actually had faith, and that faith brought them through their circumstances. A lot like us today.

It doesn’t matter where you are at right now, if you have that faith, and if you tap into that faith, anything is possible. Of course, you’re talking to a guy who, seven years ago, was living in the ghetto in a two bedroom apartment. There was no refrigerator. Now I get to drive home to a 6000 square foot mansion every day. I get to have my family over. I get to have my friends over, and they get to go swimming in my pool and I get a beautiful view of the sunrise every morning. Why? Because this is where I saw myself. This is where I saw myself. In the midst of living in brokenness, in living in poverty, I saw myself here. So that goes to show you.

Another good example. Look at Martin Luther King, Jr. For those of you that are reading this book right now, if you haven’t listened to the speech “I have a Dream,” you need to go pick that up right away. Because if you think about the oppression that was taking place at that time, for that man to stand up on those steps and defy the government and defy the people who were against him, to spill out his dream and his vision, because he did that, that’s why the world is the way it is today. That’s we’re able to have some of the friends that we have, some of the family members that we have, because he stood up for his dream. He didn’t worry about what was happening right now. He was focused on what would happen in the future.

CM: Awesome. Danny, let me ask you a question. Where can people learn more about your company? What exactly is it that your company does again and where can people learn more about you?

DM: Well, we have a basic course called “Breakthrough Principles,” and the course is designed primarily to do two things. Number one, break you down, make you understand that you’re getting what you’re getting in life because that’s all you’ve ever been exposed to. That’s all you know how to get, and it’s actually what you’re actually attracting in your life. It’s what you’re experiencing. It’s the only thing you know how to experience. Perfect example of that is, most of the billionaires in this world have failed so many times, but they keep getting back up and they keep succeeding. Why? Because they consider themselves billionaires.

Donald Trump in ’92 was dead broke, and look where he’s at now. Why? Because that’s who he thinks he is: a billionaire. Imagine if we thought of ourselves as billionaires. Imagine what would be possible for us. That’s what we do. We teach you how you’re wired to keep yourself from experiencing the abundance that you want. Then, once you’re made away of it, and once you understand and can grasp the principles we’ve taught you, then we show you the principles of wealth. We show how to get exactly what you want, if you want it. It’s a six week course, and people can find out about it by visiting us on our webpage.

CM: And what’s your webpage?

DM: Our webpage is www.telosmentor.com

CM: Awesome. Danny, what is the one question I should have asked you but didn’t?

DM: The one question you should have asked me, but didn’t?

CM: Yes.

DM: How do I sign up for your course? [laughter] That’s probably the one question you should have asked me. No, honestly, you should have asked me this question: How has money changed you?

CM: How has money changed you?

DM: Yeah, and my answer to that is, it hasn’t. And that’s the key, is that money is not everything. Family is everything. Love is everything. Your friends are everything. Your relationship with God is everything. Your goals are everything. Money is just a by-product of it all. But most people today, the Paris Hilton’s and the celebrities of the world, their entire focus is on money and it’s on trying to show us that they’re popular, or they’re hot, or whatever, because they have money. But inside there’s emptiness, there’s brokenness. You know what I found out is that money isn’t everything. Money is just a by-product of it. True abundance is having it all in every area of your life.

CM: Having a balance of spirituality and health and wealth, and things like that is really important?

DM: Yeah. What good is it if you’re broke, but your marriage is in shambles? [corrects himself] What good is it if you’re wealthy, you have money, but your marriage is in shambles, you know? What good is that? That’s going to lead you nowhere.

CM: Yeah, that’s not true wealth.

DM: No, that’s not true wealth, not in my eyes. That’s a lie. That’s a lie. And I’ll tell it exactly like it is, I’m not afraid to. There’s millions of people out there today, that are out making a lot of money and they’re out there doing things like cheating on their spouses. Guess what? It’s going to catch up, and if you really want wealth, you have to wake up to what true wealth is. See, in America today, we’ve been taught that true wealth is driving a nice car, living in a nice house, and having nice clothes. And it’s a lie. Why? Because most people spend every penny trying to prove to others that they’re rich. But in reality, inside they’re broke.

CM: Yeah, they have an ego attached to that.

DM: Exactly. To answer your question, Chris, I made a decision very early on. I knew that I was going to make a lot of money. I just knew, the way I’m wired, I guess you can say. But I also promised myself and I promised God, I said, no matter what happens, I’m not going to let it change me, because I want to help people, I want to help people understand that anything is possible for them.

CM: I don’t know if I asked you, what was a turning point for you?

DM: The turning point for me was being involved in coaching. That was the turning point for me. Being exposed to people who were doing more. And that’s why I said, if someone wants to start brand new, they’ve got to be involved in some kind of mentorship program where they can be exposed to people who are doing greater things. Why? Because they are going to want to do greater things then. And they will be led by example. That was clearly the turning point.

CM: Yeah, that’s paramount. I agree. And you guys do that, with Telos Mentor.

DM: That’s what we do. That’s what we do. And actually, we have – I was part of a training company before where I had a waiting list of about 120 people that wanted to be coached by me personally because they understood my heart. They understood that, yeah, I’m successful, but I also want to give back. Well, in that program, they charge $1500 for the course that I give. My fees are only $199, and why is that? Because I want as many people as I can to have abundance. That’s what I want.

CM: Let me ask you a question. What is this ten-and-ten you were talking about with the gratitude list and the goals?

DM: Yeah. It’s just a clear way, you know, some people call it prayer, some people call it meditation – a lot of different ways to do it. Personally, I just sit in a place where I can be quiet and I just write. And a good structure for that writing is writing ten things you’re thankful for. Why? Because sometimes you’re going to be down and out and you need to remember those things. It gets you from a point of anger and frustration into a point of thankfulness. And from that point of thankfulness if you can think of the ten things, or five things, whatever the case is, that you want in your life – whether it be health, financial freedom, a new sale, the woman of your dreams, whatever the case may be – you write that down everyday. That’s how I found my wife, actually.

CM: Wow! That’s how you met your wife?

DM: Yeah. August 13, 2003, I wrote down exactly what I wanted in my wife, from the color of hair to the bottom of her toes, from the inside of her heart to the inside of her mind, and exactly one year later, on August 13, 2004, I met her.

CM: Really? How close was she to what you had?

DM: About ninety-eight percent there.

CM: Wow! That’s really good.

DM: Yeah. And the only reason she wasn’t a hundred percent was because who I thought I wanted to marry was completely than what my heart really wanted for me.

CM: Interesting. So, your soul had a better idea of what you needed?

DM: Exactly, yeah.

CM: Awesome. Awesome. Danny, is there anything else you’d like to leave us with?

DM: I just want everybody to know that anything is possible. You know? You’re talking to a guy who used to sell tortillas seven years ago, and who had a dream and applied the principles that we teach, and voila, here we are today. At twenty-nine years old, I’m just loving life. I really am.

CM: You are truly an inspiration, and we appreciate having you.
