How Will The Economy Impact The Personal Training Industry?
A lot of trainers have been wondering about how the economy will impact the personal training industry.
My answer to that is that it's only going to effect you as much as you allow it to effect you. If you're diligent in your marketing and you market to the affluent, people who really don't worry about the economy, the gas price is too much, then your business should be fine.
In fact, if you market your business properly it should continue grow, no matter what the economic climate.
I know my business keeps growing and I know lots of trainers whose businesses are growing during this time when a lot of people are worried about the economy, worried about gas and worried about going broke and having th get a regular job.
The key is to market to the right people. If you do low-budget training, and you attract a low-budget crowd, then you're typically going to run into people who are going to be cutting a lot of expenses, who are freaked out on gas prices and also a pain in the butt to deal with. Their checks bounce, their credit cards get rejected, they want to cancel payments at the last minute, every little thing makes them freak out and want to stop training, like if their car breaks down and they have to get some repairs. That alone will make them stop training.
However, if you market to people who live in a nice area, drive new nice cards, have good jobs, own their own businesses, and don't worry too much about the economy, then your business should be stable… the key is to market to the right people.
I found is that a lot of trainers walk around worried about the economy and that's what their focus is on, is that they're going to lose business, business is slowed, it's going to slow down more and they're going to go broke and they're going to have to go out and get a normal job.
The problem is their focus is on something that they don't want and that's exactly what they're going to get, more of what they don't want.
I suggest turning your focus onto your goals and exactly where you want your personal training business to be and how you're going to find new clients and that's exactly what you'll get. You're going to get what you focus on. So, stop focusing on the economy and on losing business and on going broke and start focusing on how awesome your business is going to be and how many new clients you're going to get in and how you're going to get them and what you're going to do with all the money you make.
The key points are:
1 Market to the affluent
2. Focus on your goals
And remember, there are ALWAYS people willing to give you money.
