Owning a Personal Training Business is Pretty Damned Cool

hansen2_1.jpgThere are some things in life that are just friggin' cool… like 70s soul music.  I'm talking about Al Green and Marvin Gaye and that kind of stuff.

Also, Johnny Cash is pretty damn cool.  I don't know too many people who would disagree with that.

Chris Hansen busting guys trying to get laid by 12 year olds they met on Myspace… now that's pretty damn cool as well.  In fact, I think above owning a personal training business, Chris Hansen has the best job in the world.

jackie.jpgJackie Brown is cool.

Fight Club is cool.

John Coltrane is cool.

Clint Eastwood is cool.

Choppers are cool.

You know what, being a personal trainer and more importantly owning a personal training business is cool.

You get help a lot of people.

You can get pretty damn wealthy doing it.  While most trainers don't, there are some that do, and it's a pretty easy path to doing it once you learn the basic principles.

You get to tell people what to do all day.  You get to be an authority figure and act with certainty.  Other people look up to you and respect you and value what you say.

And unlike many other endevours in life, often times, the more outrages and more obnoxious you are, the better it will help your career.  Who wants to go to a personal trainer and spend an  hour working out with some boring trainer… but if that personal trainer can make them laugh and have fun during that hour, all  the better.

al.jpgAs a matter of fact, a few of the most successful trainers I know are by far, the most obnoxious trainers I know.  One of them even has his clients sign a sense of humor clause in the contract to tell them up front that he swears during the workout, tells dirty jokes, tells sexually offensive jokes, and that he'll probably offend the client many times during the course of their client-trainer relationship; however, he let's the new clients know this going into the relationship just sign the document  so you won't sue me.

In fact, it's this trainers outrageous antics that has his clients talking about him at work the next day and bringing in referrals by the bus load.

There is one thing I want to plant deep inside of your mind… while personal training is pretty cool, and it's a pretty cool job to have, if you're trading hours for dollars, it's still just a job, and what you really want to do is own a business, not just have a job.

If you still like training people, that's fine, just make sure you spend time doing the big levers that a successful business owner should do to move the business forward, because owning a successful personal training business is a whole lot cooler than just having a job AS a personal trainer.

Ha ha ha yeah I've had a couple of clients storm off after my training games (they can absolutely confront someone as it put's their "stuff" fully in their face) and with me having the cheesy grin thing going on when they find it ha ha ha it's been a hoot. within two days I've had them come back and apologise ha ha ha and tell me what they've been processing, I've had a few times..

Getting them to sign a waiver in regards to my training methods therefore Chris is a very good point.

To date I have only covered the financial side and to protected me from being sued for personal injury should god forbid that ever occur.. I have never thought to include my at times rather confronting delivery (encouragement) methods.

You consistently bring up good points hey Chris and that's why I keep tuning in ..good stuff bruz.
