What Personal Training and Growing Pot Have in Common

I happen to know a guy who's made millions in the marijuana growing industry, and actually today he's on the legal side of the industry. I won't get into it, but he sells supplies to indoor hydroponic marijuana growers and his business does well over $20 million a year.
I've learned a lot from this guy, he is without a doubt one of the best marketers I know and is about as hardcore of a direct response marketer that'll you ever meet.
Here's an important lesson I learned from him about marketing and building a list that he can market to on a consistent and systematic basis.
You see, his clients are pot growers and growing supply stores, and ultimately a lot of his end line clients ( the growers) don't want to give him their contact info to get on his mailing list, and for a damned good reason too… many of them could face prison if they get caught doing what they're doing.
Now I'm not going to get into the moral debate here about whether what they're doing is right or wrong… it's on them, not me. I'm just here to comment on how my buddy is able to build his list when many of his clients don't want to be on ANY list.
Your prospects are the same way… they don't want to give you their personal information either… mainly for fear of being spammed or getting calls from a telemarketer or for fear of identity theft or WHATEVER… but the point is they don;t want to give it to you.
Now back to my buddy and how his clients and prospects don't want to volunteer their e-mail, their name, their phone number, their address, nothing… but ya know what, he still gets it anyway.
Trust me, if he can get these guys' info and these are guys who are breaking the law on a daily basis who don't want to be found because they who could face long prison terms… and yet he STILL is able to get them to hand over their personal info… getting info from your prospects shouldn't be a problem at all.
What he does is make such an irresistible offer for something free and all they have to do is give over their name and email, that he ends up getting the information. The key is, he makes his offer irresistible.
You can do the same thing in your personal trainer marketing opt-in campaigns, just create something that is so spectacular they just can't resist.
I'd take whatever the best piece of information you have… and give it away to your prospects for free and create the offer around it that is so powerful that even if your prospect was a wanted fugitive on the run from the law, they'd happily give over their contact information in exchange for what you have.
Trust me, if my buddy can get a name and email from his prospects, you can get a name and email from yours. Just make the offer irresistible.

Great point about giving very HIGH - pun intended - quality freebies. I've had tremendous success giving away a great deal of my best sales tactics in my free ebook: 63 Must Have Sales Tips for Personal Trainers. When I write articles I always lead them back to that ebook to download for free.
We've also had a great deal more optins for the Carb Rotation Diet once Jayson Hunter and I put THREE free ebooks as part of a free 'Rapid Fat Loss Starter Kit.'
