Working From Home Kicks Ass

I’m writing this blog post from the cozy abyss of my home office. My daughters are upstairs taking a nap and the wife is running my errands (gotta love wives). I’ve got some John Coltrane playing in the background on my itunes, think I’ll listen to some Al Green next, or maybe step it up and put on some DMX or Metallica… maybe even some PANTERA.

The other day (from home) I did a tweet that said I f**ckin LOVE working from home, anyone lovin’ it?”

Within just a few minutes, here’s some of the tweebacks I got (tweetbacks, twitbacks, twatbacks… whatever the hell they’re called)

“amen brother”

“Dude…. Workin from home is sick… especially when its -35 celcius outsid”

“I do have to say that I love being able to spend a lot of time at home.”

“I’m with you!”

“Working from home rocks, beats a cubical any day!”

“the only thing about working from home is sometimes it is difficult to stop working”

“except when there are cookies in the kitchen and laundry in the hamper. Kinda distracting”

OBVIOUSLY I ain’t the only one who loves working from home…

My schedule pretty much goes like this…

8:40am – Wake up, pee, make a double espresso, whip up some egg whites

9:00am – create content, write sales copy, jump on a few strategy calls, maybe talk to a consulting client or two, do some reading or watch some videos ( marketing stuff mostly) and peak at my stats/numbers. If I’m really feeling up to it, I might check my inbox… but most days it’s just not my thing. Usually I’ll check Twitter here and there.

Then I’ll usually go lift weights, hang out with my family and watch a movie or tv show or two ( Dexter, The Office, Weeds, Freaks and Geeks, Entourage, Seinfeld… something like that)

Crash out at 1 or 2 am and repeat. Some days I’ll just say screw it and take the Harley out for the day or go to the movies.

I don’t know anyone else who works from home who would trade it for anything. Well, maybe there is one guys who’s an exception. He’s one of my consulting clients and a Market Annihilator member who did the exact same thing I did with his personal training business.

We got him to the top of the search engines and he hired a bunch of other trainers to do all the work for him while he works from home. The only problem is instead of actually WORKING he spends most of his time goofing off, and he’s at home in his wife’s “space” all day just driving her crazy… so now they’re arguing all the time and I think they just started going to marriage counseling.

He got half the equation right… he’s dominating the search engines, converting web surfers into paying clients like crazy and has a whole team of trainers doing all the training following my formula… now we just gotta get him to something productive with all that extra time he has on his hands… otherwise I think his wife my just end up KILLING HIM.

Working from home truly is the only way to go… at least for me… no commute, save on gas, spend my time on productive things instead of driving, get to be around my family more… the list goes on and on.

There’s a general overall feeling of freedom that goes with working from home. Last week Valerie Waters invited me up up to go hang out at her product launch. So at like 9am I call my buddies Bedros Keuilian and Steve Hochman and hour later we’re on our way up to Valeries house in LA while our personal assistants are doing all our work for us for the day.

I have many friends who’s businesses do seven or eight figures a year and they do it all working from home.

Now if I still wanted to train clients, I would train a little bit and outsource the majority of it ( I’d need to lean up a little first though… the only drawback I’ve found to working from home is what I call the ‘Fat and Happy Factor’)

My formula is pretty simple…

1. Like I show how to do in my sold out Market Annihilator program, be all over the internet where your ideal customer would search for what you have to offer. Be at the top of the search engines for TONS of money terms in both the paid AND free listings

2. Have a website that converts like crazy, using good copy and social proof

3. Have qualified sales girls convert all the calls that come in from the websites into appointments

4. Have qualified trainers who are good at not only training but also at sales convert the appointments into long term clients ( using a long term recurring billing agreement) Pay those trainers a 50/50 cut of the training revenue for that client.

5. Outsource ALL admin, management and customer service

6. Create info products to further cement the “work from home lifestyle”

While it’s not for everyone and some people need more structure, or need to show up and have a boss tell them what to do all day… I wouldn’t trade this lifestyle for anything.

mmmm… think I’ll take the rest of the day off and take the family out to a movie (=

And if you haven’t done so already, be sure to opt-in for my free Kick Back Life Personal Trainer Marketing updates… Where I talk to about everything from  starting a personal training business to marketing a health club I’ll also send you a link to a secret video that shows how you can make a lot more money and work a lot less hours from using little known underground Internet marketing tactics.

Good post Chris. It is a pivotal moment when a person realizes they want their business to work for them, not having to be a slave to their business.

thanks for the fly on the wall look into your day Chris.

I'm inspired to do the ground work now so I can work less hours and start a family in the next couple of years.

  8. Currently working 11 hours per week in my studio, the rest is at my home office. Life is good and it's getting better everyday. :)

  10. Chris,

Great post. Thanks for all the inspiration and mentorship. I am so glad that you took me on as a client. At 43 years old and 20 years of working blue collar work for the man; this is my year dude. I am breaking out and breakin away. I got a small taste of working from home in 08 and it is awesome. Thanks so much for all your help!!
