How a Personal Trainer Turned a Murder Rap and Bad Publicity into a FLOOD of New Clients…

Guest Post by Zach Hunt

This is a guest post from my friend, consulting client and now business partner Zach Hunt. From our coaching calls Zach has learned how to dominate his entire area in terms of traffic AND conversions, the dudes phone rings off the hook night and day now… it’s sick. You might recognize Zach from the Market Annihilator program where he is one of my contributors.

Zach is one dude who knows how to take action, that’s a huge part of the reason of his success.

Recently Zach got involved in a pretty crazy situation involving a gun, a fit of rage and a snow plow driver. And the craziest part isn’t the violent attack, it’s what happened to Zach’s personal training business because of it.

I’d never thought of myself as someone who would be charged with assault and battery. Really that would be quite the nightmare.

But, just this last week I was charged of 1st degree assault, sent to jail and charged to be put on jury later that week – or so the public thought…

Last Monday evening I was sitting in my studio after a day of training and business work. It was pretty much the usual day until around 6:53 pm I got a call.

It was from my own dad. He asked how I was doing and if I had any trouble with the police that day. I said no – all was well then finished the talk and didn’t think anything of it.

Then it happened, I was checking my email for that day and the first one I got went just like this:

“Zach.

my husband is a plow truck driver…I hope they throw the book at you,

Shame on you !

Shelley

p.s. Remove me from any further future emailing, I don’t want anything to do with someone like you.”

Right then I knew something was up…

I checked the news TV site and apparently someone with my same name was charged with shooting at a snow plow driver that same day. He was a similar age 22 – I am 24. He had a similar name “Zachari Hunt” – I am “Zach Hunt” and he is a guy – Okay 3 similarities.

The one that really did it – the clincher was when the news actually showed a picture of me and a video of me training my clients. (It was old archive footage the news had from the previous year when I did a TV series with them).

Now that’s evidence that is hard to refute…

That same night I got a flurry of calls, texts and further emails further complicating the issue.

My whole next week was quite was crazy.

Most everyone I had talked with that week had known about the situation. If someone hadn’t heard about it I’m pretty sure my current clients told about 10 other people each about the situation further getting my name out there. The great part was a number of potential prospects and old clients were also aware of the situation.

Now this is where it gets good…

Not only did it provide for some good entertainment for my current clients that week… (See below of a toy snow plow and person one of my clients gave me re-enacting the situation)

…it also reminded my old clients of whom I was and that they needed to get back in shape (This whole situation happened around New Year’s Resolution Times). I also heard of several people seeing me on TV from the incident, searching my name, finding out what I do and still calling in or requesting consults.

(Here’s a tip – Optimize your website for your name and your business name. A ton of my clients have found me by search my name when a friend of theirs’ shares about me.)

All this while I was supposedly in Jail – according to the news.

I actually ended up getting quite a bit of coverage – I was on the front page of one of the TV stations websites for a week. They refuted the bad coverage on every newscast of theirs for a few days. Plus I ended up doing interviews on the other TV stations refuting the mistaken identity

I guess the point of this is – get your name out there.

Make things happen – even if they’re controversial ( Just look at Chris McCombs, Howard Stern and Gene Simmons)

Get your name and what you do in front of prospects. Get to top of mind awareness. One of the best ways to get top of mind awareness is to be everywhere on the internet.

Like my clients ask me, “How many websites do I have… 40 or 50?”

Actually I only have 3-4 websites, but I just make it look like multiple cause I show up whenever you search pretty much anything fitness in Spokane.

(Another tip: It’s okay to have more than one website. Both optimized for more than one term. As long as they are different in Google’s eyes and the term isn’t too competitive.)

Talk to your news outlets – tell them what you think.

Tell them what’s on your mind.

Start a controversial blog – catch the attention of the media in your area.

Get your name out there.

Write a column in a local magazine or newspaper.

Just make it happen!!!

  10. That station needs to kiss your ass for freakin' years. It's absurd what they did. They didn't do any reporting whatsoever. They just jumped to conclusions. That is 100% complete horsesh*t.

But you made lemonade out of lemons. Make the most out of this and then some!
