Form Zero to Hero – 7 Reasons Why Personal Training's the Ish…

Guest Post by Kaiser Serajuddin

This is guest blog post from Kaiser Serajuddin. Kaiser’s blog caught my attention a few months back when I noticed he was really doing a lot of things right when it comes to creating a blog that builds a following of loyal readers. I’m proud to say Kaiser is now on my Kick Back Life team of guest bloggers…

…the dude definitely speaks his voice and has a lot to say when it comes to being a successful personal trainer… His sh*t is raw and mandatory reading for any trainers stuck in a gym working for someone else… plus it makes a helluva read for established trainers too…

I know Chris is known for what a hash smuggling, overweight junkie he was – I guess when you pull yourself out and accomplish big things you can wear your past mistakes like a badge of honor.

In my case my story is probably just as graphic if not more…

how’s this for a headline…

“Knife fighting New York City dope peddler who’s friends all go to prison, die, or get rich and famous without him, ends up taking the safe route and goes to college, where he starts peddling pills to celebrities, nearly o.d.’s twice, flunks out, and manages to get through it with his life in the gutter”?

Yeah that was me – and that’s just a hint at how bad it was – writing it, it sounds cool but I assure you it’s not.  From my experience the street life and crime is the most horrendous pathetic existence there is – you have absolutely no self-esteem and feel you are unworthy to ever make an honest living like a “normal” person.

Do not believe your favorite rap song!  There’s a reason they left the hood and started rapping!

Then something happened one day that changed my life.  I was flat broke, failed out of school, out of shape, and just a hanger on to whatever friends I had left.  One of my old buddies got out of prison after a 2 year bid.  Back in high-school I was one of the first kids that got into weights – my buddy was a midget compared to me (and I’m pretty small) – he used to depend on me to protect him back then.

I hadn’t seen him in years, but when I did he was a changed man – from just the light weights and push-ups in the can he had got huge and ripped.

He had a good idea – “hey Kaiser we should become Personal Trainers!” The big phrase around then was “go hard”, so we started Go Hard Fitness -

Before our training empire was launched, me and my buddy had a little falling out – he ended up violating parole and I haven’t seen or heard from him since.

I decided to go ahead and become a Personal Trainer –

Yeah, for me the rest is history – because of Personal Training I was able to completely get my sh*t together.  It gave me a strange insight into people – I feel that there really are no bad people – that some of us just fall outside of the typical work and lifestyle set-up created by our parents and the media.

If you can’t find the right way to apply yourself, you just self-destruct.  You lower their self-esteem and accept whatever’s in front of you.

For me I was VERY luck to find a way to apply myself and find a way out –

That’s why I’m always pushing Personal Training so hard – if you’re a dynamic person that gets bored easily (I challenge Chris to who’s ADD is worse) then this is the PERFECT job for you.

Reading the recent book BRAIN RULES by John Medina, and of course The Four Hour WorkWeek has just validated my opinion and my own experiences -

Yes folks the research confirms it - some of us are just wired differently! Stop beating your head against the wall, trying to fit your circle peg into the square whole!  Become a trainer and make your own world -

Here’s what happened next – these are my seven reasons why Personal Training is really the absolute best job in the world:

Training, at least in the beginning, has a huge sales element to it.  Embrace this part of it.  You get to talk to lots of people on “house money” – and all you’re selling is yourself.

Learn to talk.  Learn to sell.  Learn to make yourself a great product.  Selling is the MOST valuable skill in our world today.

Marketing - when you go out on your own as a trainer you need to learn to market yourself quickly.  But this is marketing in just it’s most basic form.  You only need a dozen or so high-paying clients, not thousands, so you have a chance to master the basics of marketing.

I lied; marketing is THE MOST valuable skill in our world today.  As a trainer you just naturally learn to do it quickly.

Customer Psychology - when you’re a trainer you set your own rates.

What do you feel you’re worth? You are thrust right into the heart of the free market economy, because you make all the decisions on the product and the cost.  It teaches you to use all the areas of INFLUNCE, as detailed in Robert Cialdini’s landmark book.

Internet Marketing - if you like fitness I’m sure you hate sitting in front of a computer.  But now in the age of web 2.0, computers fall directly into our strengths – networking and giving out information.

There is a huge world-wide demand for what you offer, and there’s never been a better time in human history to profit from it.

Start your own business - this is the dream of every Tom, Dick, and Jane around.  Every overworked MBA is dieing for the “right time” to start his/her own business – haha – losers!

But being a Personal Trainer, believe it or not, thrusts you right into this role.  You’ll be surprised how exponentially fast you can learn from doing instead of sitting in a classroom.

Scheduling - the best part of training for me is the hours – I have never been able to wake up early and that has held me back my entire life.

But when I read BRAIN RULES I found out why – about 20% of the population is hard-wired like this. With training you can wake up whenever you want if it suits you.  Sure this might exclude certain clients who want to train early – just make sure you have fresh new ones in your pipeline that fit your schedule.

Training gets you girls - nuff said -

When I look back now it seems like I’ve lived a few different lives – but this last chapter, the one of “Kaiser the Personal Trainer”, has been BY FAR the best.

Now high-level people look up to me and come to me for help – who would have thought? And with all the skills that I learned so rapidly, you feel like you can see through “The Matrix”.

I’ve learned to simplify my life and work with just my best, highest paying clients, in high leverage situations that pay me very comfortably.

Which gives me time and money to write my own blog, write on other people’s blogs (yeah Chris, you’re welcome), and do whatever the hell else I’m might be in the mood for that day. Even though there’s still a lot left to do with myself, it’s with a calm feeling.  You see the whole world as your oyster – isn’t this training thing great?

This has been a guest post by Kaiser Serajuddin… Kaiser has a killer blog over Super-Trainer.com

    Hey Chris,
I LOVE Kaiser to death! Know I am not in the fitness world so to speak, though I love my trainer too! Kaiser's insights and philosophies have greatly enhanced my own way of life and business opportunities. Our two personal services go hand in hand. My being a make-up artist, our paths cross most frequently and all of your attitudes and thoughts are most beneficial to my line of work! I look forward by minutes to consume all of your wealth of information. Keeps me wanting to strive for the ultimate lifestyle! Thanks, Gianna

Kaiser i am a trainer from the UK and your stuff is universal. You hit the nail on the head every time I read your newsletters.

Thanks Chris for sending great content yet again

    Tom

  3. Kaiser,

Killer blog mate and a great story to boot. Your own blog is raw and to the point which is great. Will you still be sticking with your high paid clients and mixing with this web stuff, or will you be eventually migrating full time?

again great post and as always, Chris, you da man.

  4. Very good stuff Kaiser. You wrapped this up in a nut shell, your story is a rougb one, we all have our pasts, mine was certainly not like yours, but what I was surrounded by on a regular basis could have kept me down, working a regular job, struggling to make ends meet and NOT doing good for family or the world

I think being a fitness professional allows us to do great things for others, which is why we started and why we should always be in it

Chris, those pics freak me out dude, ha ha

    kill it bruddahs!

    –z–

PS: Kaiser, stop by dude, you're prob. 30 minutes away :)

Great post! I like the real no b.s. content. Keep it coming!

  6. Great story. What I like most about it is how it demonstrates how you are not stuck. This goes for both clients and trainers.

Even if you are dealt with a bad hand, lets say poor genetics for weight loss, or do not have support or capital to build a business, there is a way to reach your goals.

Kaiser's story as well as yours prove that you are in control of your life and responsible for where it goes.

  7. Ronny says:

Awesome story of Kaiser…Both you and Kaiser both have backrounds that resonate with me well- and I feel that it bodes well with how you guys are living life today. Personal training has been the gift that came out of ashes when my whole life felt like it got burned down…

I love how some of us are able to turn the tragedies to triumphs through our lives, and yet- others make those tragedies as excuses why life keeps dealing them bad cards.

Keep up with the great posts Chris- lovin it all…

  8. I can only attest to all the positive feedback stated above. I got my website done through Kaiser (and so did Gianna, the make-up artist in the 1st post).

I used to be that overworked gym slave, if I had never read Kaiser's Whistleblower report I'd probably still be there.

  9. Kaiser S. says:

Ha! Glad everyone got something out of this post! – That's why I love Chris' blog – he always lets it all out here and I felt this was a good place for that – hope it got everyone hungry to do big things with themselves – that's what my blog is for and I know it's the same with this one!

  10. Josh says:

    Great story well done Kaiser
