The 41 Best Ways to Get Fitness Training Clients

Hey there… hope you’re doin’ awesome… and I hope you’re fitness training business is rockin’ hard like you deserve it to be…

What a cool industry we’re in… seriously… I think the best gig’s in the world are fitness training and info-marketing… and I’m fortunate to own businesses in both.

This post is about getting more clients of your fitness training business… whether you do personal training or boot camps… these strategies work great either way. This is the stuff that works… period.

Now before you jump into the post,  I wanna tell you about something real quick that’s been under raps until now…

Next week I’m releasing Market Annihilator 2.0 … it’s got some super cool new features…

First of all, it has ALL the down home goodness of the original program… all the step-by-step ‘how to get fitness training clients’ into your business just like I do… for example in my local area we get enough clients from the internet to feed those clients to 15 personal trainers and boot camp instructors… and Market Annihilator shows you EXACTLY how I do this… it’s all about getting new clients from the internet.

Now….onto the post…

Whether you’re just starting a personal training business or have been at it for decades, here’s some of my FAVORITE ways to get fitness training clients…

1. Be likable and do likable things

2. Train a ton of people for free who can in return refer you lot’s of business ( Human Billboards) I recommend having at least 30 of these ( works best in group training environments) I explain it here

3. ASK for referrals on a consistent basis and reward and recognize clients who refer.

4. Advertise on Craigslist like a friggin’ mad man… multiple categories everyday… using proven direct response strategies and copy… social proof… click-able images and keywords in the ad ( you can email my assistant Del at  positivelyfitassistant ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com if you’d like to find out how to access a secret free video showing you exactly how we do this)

5. Get your site to the top of Google for ALL your keyword terms and variations – remember, the more terms the better ( as long as their terms people who use to search for the kind of solution you offer)… use lot’s of optimized pages with your keywords in the title tag, in the body copy and fire lot’s of anchor text links to your optimized pages from as many different sites as possible.

6. Get your site to the top of the Google Local Business Listings and get lots of positive reviews

7. Get your site to the top of Google Adwords, using only phrase and exact match, using TONS of negative keyword matches, lots of individual adgroups, position preferences set to positions 1-3, and a high quality score so you can pay a portion of what your competitors pay yet have your ads shown ABOVE theirs and get way more clicks then they do.

8. Get clients from Facebook Ads targeting your audience as deep as possible and making your ads as relevant as possible

9. Becoming a master at consultative selling so you can convert as many prospect as possible into clients

10. Use Steve’s Plastic Referral Card Method

11. Use Steve’s 10 x 10 method

12. Raise your energy in your workouts

13. Wrap your car like Laurel does here

14. Use direct mail

15. If your clientele is right for it, fill your groups with as many attractive and fit female clients as possible like I explain here

16. Have a kick ass blog that you can use to send prospects to on a regular basis and build a good relationship with them on by giving them tons of fun, free, killer content

17. Have a good direct response style website that will actually convert your visitors into appointments… like these:

18. Have a good phone script

19. Read this post here, and if you’ve already read it, read it again

20. Public speaking

21. Become a MASTER networker

22. Contact old inactive clients on a regular basis

23. Put people on long EFT agreements so you can keep them for longer ( which will also help you get more referrals)

24. Hire a coach who’s done what you wanna do ( someone who is a master at getting clients)

25. Use Steve’s Foot Soldier Strategy – Basically get twenty salespeople from Craigslist, supply them all with plastic gift referral cards and pay them fifty bucks commission for each referral they send in who signs up. ( I know some trainers KILLING IT with this right now)

26. Call your clients at work and pump them up – there almost for sure to tell their coworkers about you which is a great way to get referrals

27. Visualize people literally beating down the doors to train with you

28. Take massive action ( only like 5% of people do, that’s why most trainers are broke and only a small percent are killing it)

29. Focus on giving and helping people

30. Help at least one other trainer less successful than you are to become at least as successful as you are

31. Text your clients all kinds of cool and positive messages ( another great way to get more referrals)

32. Send your clients balloons at work when they reach certain goals ( get’s referrals like crazy)

33. Do things every day that will get you more clients… most trainers spend their time on things that just keeps their business the same, do things EVERY DAY to bring in new business ( like the things on this list) … Automate and delegate as much of your business as possible so you can spend your time on things that will really drive your business forward

34. Survey your market so you can sell them what they want and not what you *think* they want

35. Do something OUTRAGEOUS to get local media attention

36. Become a local fitness expert in local magazines and publications

37. Get publicity by being the featured expert on local news channels

38. Get as many of your clients into incredible shape as possible ( here’s what’s funny… this is important… but not as important as a lot of others things on this list believe it or not… at least not when it comes to building a six or seven figure business)

38. Do whatever the f*ck it takes to get new clients ( without hurting anyone else in the process of course… keep it win/win)… walk through fears, break through your comfort zone barriers, put in extra hours ( especially at first) and invest in yourself and in your business

39. Build a massive “opt-in” email list of people who want to hear what you have to say… give them as much awesome content as you can

40. Have clear and defined goals of how many people you want to help and in what ways you’re gonna help them ( like this ), how many clients you’re gonna get, how much money you’re gonna make, how you’re gonna get there, when you’re gonna get there, and then just friggin’ do it… NO EXCUSES… capiche?

41. Be one of the hundred people to get Market Annihilator 2.0 right when it comes out, and do what it says ( take action on the steps in the program… it’s that simple)

  1. All good. I really like the fact your methods are not just the thorw money at the problem solutions. In fact you suggest starting by talking to people and thats free. I Think that your systems really allow for organic Business Growth. Thank you .

  2. Good one today. And the point is…..aggressively seek out new business using multiple methods on a consistent basis. Sticking to one or two methods sporadically will result in very small gains. This is the "carpet bombing" approach to lead generation. Thanks for reminding me.

    Fantastic post Chris –

    the one that's worked best for me over the years is keeping in touch with old clients and winning them back.

    And then of course giving them a great service – plenty of nutrition advice, regular text messages with reminders to eat right at key times, and asking the client where they felt muscle soreness in the 2 days after our workout.

    great selection of ideas yet again.

    By far and away since I have signed uo to your coaching and made a few variations to the website, google has gone through the roof in regards to enquiries as we now sit on the first page ( and at the top of google) ALL the time. Still working on conversion % but that will come as I refine the sales pitch.

    Number one way to get clients this year for me has been running an add in Facebook. 26 new clients at $450 a pop not bad at all, for nothing…
