A Fitness Marketing and Business Post by Chris McCombs

Hey there, hope you're doing awesome…. we opened the doors on Market Annihilator 2.0 this morning and it's been absolute friggin chaos around here… I had to get outta dodge for a few minutes so I took the Harley out for a ride and hit the gym… I love it how a good workout can just totally clear the brain and flush out tension from the body… there's nothing like it in the world.

One of the chaotic things that happened is for some reason a lot of people started getting errors when trying to order… that should be all fixed now… and you can just go to this page to get started with the program, but if for any reason you still get an error code just email my support team at marketannihilator (at) gmail dot com and they'll get you all squared away… I really apologize if you're one of the people this was happening to

Alright, check it out… here's a common email I get…

——-

Chris, please help me…

I'm ready to take on the world… I have four clients… I'm starting a blog, getting five websites built for my different niches, want to start writing my first ebook, would like to start selling supplements to my clients, am putting up a store on my site where I plan on selling kettlebells and t-shirts ( by the way, do you know where I can get t-shirts with my company logo to sell on my site?)… I'm also getting into life coaching, want to open a boot camp, hire other trainers and get clients for them for them like you do… am joining my local chamber of commerce… and a local networking group, am looking into buying a fitness studio… gonna get 3 more certifications… wanna do in-home training and group training and mma training and work with new mothers as well as the elderly and professional athletes and celebrities… right now I don't make much and my goal is to be making six figures a year within 4 months… can you help me?

Just ask Bedros or Steve Hochman, they get a TON of these emails as well

Just reading an email like that stresses me out… it's like…

"Whoa… easy der' bruddha"

Now I'm a firm believer that success happens in chaos, and you wanna be doing multiple things simultaneously to get to your goals

HOWEVER… you need to make sure it's the RIGHT things and that you're able to focus on them… if you're all over the map you're just gonna find yourself spinning in circles and most likely avoiding the important ( and often uncomfortable ) actions

The typical trainer in the above scenario will take a little action towards one thing, and then when it gets time to do something that makes him ( or her) uncomfortable, they'll start working on one of the other projects or strategies… and then AGAIN, when it comes time to do the uncomfortable stuff… you guessed it… they'll switch to another strategy.

This is an EXCELLENT way to go nowhere fast.. and when I see an email like the above one I can almost bet good money that that trainer will be pretty much in the exact same position they are in now in a year from now… spinning their wheels.. staying PLENTY BUSY… but never really getting anything important done that helps them really grow their business substantially, sure they might go from four clients to six or eight…. but that's about the extent of it.

If you're having this problem… here's what I would do…

1. Write down you're biggest goals for your business… include the following…

  • Financial ( Exactly how much money will you make)
  • Lifestyle ( what will your ideal average workday look like)
  • Contribution ( how many people will you help in what way)

2. Work backwards… meaning, reverse engineer it… if you're there, what did you have to do to get there?

What are the BIG MONEY MAKING ACTIONS… it's really only about 5-20% of what you think it is… there's a few things that'll get ya there… the other 80-95% is mostly just wasted effort.

3. Start doing those things now.. cut out the fluff.. use A, B, and C stacks

  • A – It's important to get you to your goals and MUST be done by you… it's a 5% activity
  • B – It's important to get you to your goals but can be done by someone else
  • C – It ain't super important, so trash it

The goal is to move as much stuff from the A pile to B pile and from the B pile to the C pile as possible

Outsource the living sh*t outta that B stack, trash that C stack.. and make sure the majority of your time is working in the A stack

Spend at least as much time each week on your A-stack activities as you do training and doing the other things that just kind of maintain the business… so for example…

Bad: You train 25 hours a week but only spend 5 hours a week working on your A stack

Good: You train boot camps 12 hours a week working with 20 people at a time and spend 20 – 30 hours each week aggressively tearing through your A-stack

4. Take massive action, and be aware anytime you're avoiding the uncomfortable activities in favor of the more comfortable ones.

To get your business where you want it to be you're gonna need to become the type of business owner that owns that type of a business… and to get there you have to grow as a person… and to grow you need to step out of your comfort zone… feel the fear and discomfort and friggin' do it anyway… business owners who don't grow, own businesses that don't grow either… it's really that simple.

Another problem a lot of fitness trainers have is that they take the wrong actions first… like they want to put up a blog before having a optimized sales site… this is okay in an info marketing business, but for a local fitness training business, focus on building a search engine optimized sales site before blogging.

Get to the top of the search engines… get to the top of Google PPC and Google Local… get your Facebook ads and Craiglsit ads up and rolling… that's the stuff that can get you clients right away.. blogging is great, and I love blogging, but don't put the carriage before the horse.

If you haven't seen the power of the combo of sending swarms of traffic from…

  • Google Organic
  • Google PPC
  • Google Local
  • Facebook Ads
  • MASSIVE amounts of Craigslist Ads

… to a high converting sales site… and you're worried about blogging first… I URGE you to dramatically change your game plan

The above internet strategy plus the human billboard strategy , combined with EFT/auto-debit, and good referral and retention programs, can turn any decent trainer into a six figure trainer in a fairly short amount of time ( now if said trainer trains in some town with population 117… 114 of em' being unemployed… I'd say the first A stack activity is MOVE )

If you'd like to avoid being stuck in a rut and wanna be able to focus your time on the really important A stack activities.. so you get a steady flow of new clients from the internet and BUILD one helluva successful fitness business… check out Market Annihilator 2.0

Yeah bro!

I used to stay up all night making big-time plans about JV deals and running bootcamps in businesses all over Nevada PLUS online training and my own supplement company PLUS blah, blah, blah.

And I was on EVERYONE'S marketing info list. Good stuff too, Eben Pagan, John Carlton, Reese, Kern, and all of the other top guns.

As a result I never got ANYTHING done. Too much info.

I had a long talk with Luca Hocevar at FBS09 about it, and that night I unsubscribed from everyone's list but you, Steve, Bedros, Kern, and Moffatt.

Now I just do what you tell me in Market Annihilator and what Steve and Bedros tell me in FBBC.

<y biz is growing so fast I'm having trouble keeping up!

Thanks for everything, bro. You rock.

Chris, that's not cool posting my personal emails to you up on your blog for the world to see man …

Michael Duivis @ 4:51 pm #

Definitely Luke,

We all need that 'laser-like' focus, and the only way to maintain this is by totally TEARING just a few things apart.

Chris McCombs @ 4:52 pm #

Kaiser, not to worry my friend

I didn't put your name in it

PLUS… I changed the words around a little and I took out all the stuff about how you're having trouble getting girls and were thinking of just throwing in the towel and going over to the other side, even though it's not *your thing*, you figured you'd have better luck

I also took out the obvious stuff about how you in your heart of hearts all you really wanna do is start a boy band and dance you're lil' heart out… now if I left that in everyone would've known it was you… but I took it out bro

Don't worry brother, no one will ever know it's you

I got you covered (=

I am speaking to the guy that wanted to be everything to everybody. I would like to see him find a niche that he's passionate about and concentrate on that.
You can do boot camps or group training for that niche.
Don't spread yourself so thin.
You'll soon be overwhelmed, if you aren't already, and you'll lose out all around.
Stay fit,
Bonnie

Great post Chris! There is so many options to kill the market and it can be overwhelming especially when you're a go-getter. Thanks for helping me stay focused! You rock!

thanks Chris,
after working back from my goal now I know how many people each day I need to get into my new program when it launches next month.

appreciate that!

TC @ 10:12 pm #

Hey Chris
Thanks for your great advice again. I was a trainer who tries to be everything and be good at everything. Took me awhile to realize that approach did not work.

JJ Brawley @ 10:14 pm #

Hey Chris, have anyone told you they loved you today? Because I frickin LOVE you man! You rock! This post made my day. I first read it on my cell phone but I had to wait till I got home to respond. I have been so damn focused since getting on board with you that even my closest friends have noticed. Thanks Man!

Hey Chris, did you see the article "The Lazy Workers Way to Success"? It got me thinking about the "laid back lifestyle" Here is the link. http://msn.careerbuilder.com/Article/MSN-2010-Workplace-Issues-The-Lazy-Workers-Way-to-Success-6-Tips/?SiteId=cbmsnhp42010&sc_extcmp=JS_2010_home1&gt1=23000

Great post Chris!

Sometimes it really helps to take a step back from everything I'm doing and list things out like this.

Thanks for keeping my head in order!

Chris,

When I read that email (before I knew where you were going with it) I was just rolling my eyes asking myself is he/she crazy! You are totally right, focus on a couple things and do them well. I use to study stuff that was far too advanced, or not the right info for the place I was in in my business and life.

Only learn, study, and DO what is most important NOW, don't do the things that might be important 6 months from now. When you get to that point, then learn and do them.

Great reminder Chris!

Dustin

Tyron @ 10:28 pm #

Thanks Chris. I'm putting action to the 4 things you mentioned above tomorrow….

I was in Luke's boat for a while.

I have learned to concentrate on two or three big things…guess what? It's decreased stress and increased income.

I'm still learning, but it's so much easier when you are concentrating on a few big deals rather than 34 different (and sometimes conflicting) things.

Haha I'm not gonna lie I did this at first and you're probabaly talking about me as well but I'm glad I've got my priorities straight and putting all my focus on that A stack. Thanks Chris! O by the way, I know you love boy bands, I hear you sing along to the songs while we train. All you need is a smaller shirt, and tight jeans and you're set! Lol
