33 of the Best Places to Find Fitness Training Clients
Hey there, hope you're awesome and your personal training business and/or boot camp is KILLIN' it… if you're taking a ton of action on what you're learning then it is for sure… it all comes down to action.
Right now I'm out in Las Vegas masterminding with Bedros, Steve Hochman, Craig Ballantyne, Vince Delmonte, Seven Figure Sam, Josh Carter, Leanne Ellington and some other real heavy hitters in the fitness industry… masterminding is one of my favorite things do and is paramount to success.
Here's a quick list of some of my favorite places to find new fitness training clients… when I first did the human billboard strategy years ago I pretty much approached everyone everywhere I went… all it took was about 30 days of that kind of craziness and my business has been pumping ever since…
Unfortunately a lot of trainers aren't willing to get out of their comfort zone… and they pay for it every day… if you're just willing to get out there and hit it hard, you'll trip out on what can come of it… life rewards people who act in spite of their fears and insecurities.
All these might not be for you… but whether you're looking for paying clients or free human billboards to help build your referral army, these are some great places to start… this list took me about six minutes to come up with, and I've gotten clients from just about everyone of these places but three of them… this list is FAR from complete but I just wanted to get your mental gears goin'… cuz potential clients are literally all over the friggin' place if you just open your eyes and look… there's a ton of money out there with your name on it, why not claim it… cuz if it doesn't go to you it's going to someone else.
- The Mall ( Sarge it like PUA's sarge for dates and phone numbers… walk up to ten people a day in your local mall and get over what people think about you)
- Health Clubs around town
- Book Stores
- Coffee Shops
- Church ( Popular ministers make about the best kind of human billboards I can think of)
- AA Meetings ( Alcoholics are a little flakey though and often broke, but when I first built my business they were pretty much the only people I knew)
- Hair Salons ( Hair Stylists make awesome human billboards)
- In line at the grocery store
- Your neighbors
- Networking meetings
- Parties
- Driving around town with your car wrapped

- Google Organinc
- Google Local
- Google PPC
- Craigslist
- Meetup.com
- Myspace
- Your house list
- Your address book / contact list
- At restaurants.. talk to the hostess, waitress and manager ( human billboards baby)
- Workout in front of people at the local park or on the corner of busy intersections
- Supplement Stores ( pay them for referrals)
- Tanning Salons ( the front desk girls can make great human billboards)
- Office buildings near where you train
- Put on free fitness seminars
- Lead gen boxes places in stores all around town
- JV deals with doctors, cosmetic surgeons, massage therapists and chiropractors
- Friends and family of your current clients
- I've known trainers to get clients from online dating sites as well… but you didn't hear this one from me
- Everywhere you friggin go…
Like I said, this list took me about six minutes and is far from complete... I've actually gotten clients from about 90% of the places listed… today I stick to mostly Google Organic, Google Local, Google Adwords, Facebook and Craigslist… but that's cuz those are the most fun and easiest for me … those are easy to put on autopilot which fits into my lifestyle plan these days… meaning they don't really take any work… but if you're hungry to build your business… then hit the list hard and be on constant new client alert.

For me there's nothing better than referrals from existing clients. Nothing else has come close in producing new business.
There's a double advantage in this:
The best way to get clients to refer is to give a fantastic service (during sessions and between sessions crucially).
The double advantage is that it boosts referrals AND retention of existing clients.
Wow there was at least ten I am using there one client a week from each training once a week £15000 more…
Good stuff Chris! This is a great refresher and it's all about getting over what people "think" of you. Often times its our own insecurities and people will actually think it's pretty cool when you offer them something as great at training!
Radio DJ's are great human billboards.
Dude! Great list. I guess I gotta go into a church now though…
The other day I was in line at Costco getting tuna, almonds, spinach, etc. A lady up front was taking forever to pay, so I started talking to the cougar behind me.
She had eggs and hummus in her cart (and a bunch of booze!). I said, "Mmmmm, hummus…" She said "I love hummus! I wish I could eat more!" I told her she could hard boile the eggs, then mix the yolk with hummus for an "undeviled egg".
When she asked how I knew that recipe, I told her it was from my 21 Day Fat Loss Meal Plan.
The cougar is coming in Monday morning!
(This feels like I'm writing a lay report on rsdnation…)
Peace!

Awesome post again. I think going out to different places to get clients is really important to spread your name in your local market.
Thats a good story Luke.
Thanks I needed that. Thats a great reminder that where there's a will theres a way
Love the list Chris. I am missing a few of them so I will make sure to get after it. Great list.
Chris, no offense man, but I've seen you up close and personal and I know you don't get any clients from these:
-Running clubs
-Triathlon clubs
But they're goldmines. Provided you can huff n' puff to keep up with them.
By the way, awesome post man. Rock on.
Chris,
Great list. So simple yet very thought provoking.
Thanks,
Brian
awesome list – U gave me a ton of ideas to get after it again!
thnx bruddah
From this list I found restaurants to actually be the 'easiest' to get Human Billboards. Here in LA many of the waitresses are part-time actresses who know LOTS of people.
Luke – that's an AWESOME opener (cougars are just great).
Luke, great story, I really must get over to Costco brother. And Chris, thanks for the great marketing awareness exercise this post provides. Let's hit it!
Look forward to reading your next post.

Making yourself a human billboard while your out maybe? Chris, you have awesome tips!
More great stuff man… I would have to agree with you that the easy stuff is s definitely the Google SEO, Facebook, Twitter, social marketing, etc. as I definitely know approaching people has always been a stumbling block for me but I am definitely getting that book you mentioned in a video, Susan Jeffers – Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway, as I can see the potential for new business and bigger picture for just taking over the god damn PT industry in my area full stop.
I have the no. 1 spot on Google for "personal training blog" and I aim to get the no. 1 spot (actually 1-10 is better) for anything, and I mean anything to do with personal training Adelaide (my city in Australia). I like your point about if the money isn't going to you, it's going to someone else, obvious statement but very true.
I have noticed on your blog posts too that you have removed the date from the WP theme, was that intentional or already like it? Can see why you would do that though.
