How To Make Sure Your Offer Doesn't Suck

This is a fitness marketing and copywriting guest post by Leanne Ellington

My friend Leanne Ellington just busted out a KILLER blog post about creating a powerful offer, before you check it out, if you're interested in earning up to five times as much per hour in your fitness training business, then check out the brand new Group Training Exploder program that just got launched this morning

It's full of everything you need to build a six-figure group training business, including how to run your groups, how to find locations, equipment, billing, marketing, sales, referrals, retention… EVERYTHING - you can check it out here

Alright, I'll let my friend Leanne take it from here - her post kicks serious a**…

Have you ever been on a cruise?  If not, you gotta go…  they're the best deal in town.

I just checked the web.  You could book a 5-night cruise for two people with an upgraded ocean view room leaving from Miami for $600.  That includes taxes and port charges.  Alcohol and gambling are the only items not included.

Did you read that?  $600 for TWO people for FIVE nights!  EVERYTHING included.  And when I say EVERYTHING-I mean absolutely EVERYTHING!

5 nights in a luxury hotel room: A little smaller than you're used to…but much nicer.  Maid service twice every day.  When you leave in the morning, they'll clean and set it up for daytime.  When you go to dinner, they clean and set it up for night time-and put a little chocolate on your pillow.  It's sweet.  Pun intended J

The food: You can eat every meal in the dining room.  That's where you get the white glove service.  A waiter will take your order and serve your food. There's a separate bus boy to make sure your drinks are always full.

Every time you sit down in the dining room, you'll be presented with a full menu.  We're talking multi-course meals here.

Breakfast can be breads, muffins, or donuts.  Eggs made to order.  Eggs Benedict.  Bacon.  Sausage.  French Toast.  Pancakes.  You name-they got it.

Start off lunch with a Caesar salad before moving on to your nice, fresh shrimp sandwich on a hot, crusty baguette.  Desire a juicy burger?  Always available how you want it-cooked to perfection with the toppings you like.

Dinner's my favorite.  Shrimp scampi for an appetizer.  A nice house salad after that.  And then the main event:  Filet Mignon, Prime Rib, Fancy Fish, Lobster Tail.  Can't decide between all those goodies?   No worries-you can order them all-for FREE!

I kid you not.  My family likes to eat.  On our first cruise, we discovered that you're allowed to order anything you want.  As much as you want.  Feeling like three lobster tails?  No problem.  How about a Filet with that?  Done.  Just save room for some molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream!

Now, if you're not down with the formal, sit-down dining room experience three times a day-don't you worry your pretty little head off.

Buffets abound.  Everywhere you look, no matter what time it is-there is a buffet for you.  There are salad bars, and soup bars, and pizza bars, and desert bars.  You can get fish, steak, veggies-you get the picture.  Anytime you want food-there's a buffet waiting for you.

Don't feel like even leaving the room?  There's room service!  Now, normally I NEVER order room service cause it usually costs a gazillion dollars.  But not on cruises.  Nope-everything's included.  Remember?

Peruse the menu and make the call.  The food will arrive within 15-30 minutes.  Made fresh for you.  I suggest the turkey club sandwich.   Might as well get some cookies too.  It's FREE don't forget.

Ok, enough about food.  We can't forget the entertainment.  Pools.  Hot tubs.  Water slides. Movie theaters.  Broadway musicals.  R-rated stand up comedians.  The "Newlywed Game".  Bingo for CASH!  Art Auctions.  Karaoke.  The list goes on and on.

Of course, you're on a boat.  Boats move.  Duh.  Where do want to go?  Jungle jeep ride?  Sit on a beach and lounge?  Mayan ruins?   Urban fun?  Cruises have it all.  Usually a five-night cruise will stop in at least 3 different locations!

And all this stuff is just the tip of the iceberg.   I haven't even touched upon the piano bars, climbing walls, skating rinks, discotheque, youth program…nothing.  There's so much more than I've talked about here.

And remember, all this for TWO people-FIVE nights.  $600.  Including taxes.  Pretty bad ass, no?

Think about it:  A shitty little hotel room will cost you $100 plus taxes per night.  That's your $600 right there!  And you haven't eaten a bite or entertained yourself for one second.

Cruises are the deal of the century.  Period.   End of story.

Now, go to RoyalCarribean.com.  Or Carnival.com.  Do you see anything like what I just described?  Nope.  You don't.  Not even close.

If you go to those websites, you'll get very dry information-with NO details and NO emotion.

Sure they tell you about their "world class dining room". But they don't tell you you'll be handed a menu with all these amazing foods on it:  Filet Mignon, Lobster Tail, etc.  They don't mention you can order it all.   They don't mention 5-course meals.

They essentially mention NOTHING.  There's no specific information to get me excited.  They have the "deal of the century" yet it seems like they don't even realize it.

With every single bullet point they have a chance to tell us why we should go on a cruise.  To entice us to go on their cruise.  But with every single bullet, all I see is a wasted opportunity.

Where's the glamour?  Where's the excitement?  Where's the magic?

In short:  Their "offer" sucks.

And that brings me to the point of this blog post

MAKE SURE YOUR OFFER DOESN'T SUCK

I'll admit, my offer used to sucked.  Ya see, my boot camps in Orlando, Florida-they're the "deal of the century".   But for a while there, it seemed like I didn't even know it.

Sure I had a guarantee.  Some testimonials.  A call to action.  All the essentials.  But still, the results were just plain bad:  a good amount of traffic-but hardly any conversions at all. No new customers.  No new money L

Do you offer boot camps? (dull, boring, colorless, monotonous, computer voice)

Or do you offer…

-UNLIMITED ACCESS to 18-weekly boot camps in 2 different locations.  Each session is just 45-minutes.  I give different versions of each exercise so no matter what shape you're in, you can do this.  Designed to boost your metabolism so you can lose weight faster.

-The NON-DIET:  Instant download to my complete nutrition system.  No need for Weight Watchers or other diets.  Recipes, Shopping Lists,  etc.  No clickers, no special meals.  Eat everything you want-cut out nothing completely.

-PERSONAL COACHING:   Intro Private Consultation - pictures, measurement, body fat composition.  Every six weeks you get an Accountability Consultation.  My private email address and phone number.  Call me anytime with questions.

See the difference?  I sure did.  After I changed my offer, my conversions went up….way up.  Like by a factor of 7.5!

I'm not saying go write a 5,000 word dissertation describing your offer in endless detail either.

What I am saying is…

Sit down.  Relax.  Think about what you have to offer.  Make an outline.  A mind map.  Do whatever you need to do to organize your thoughts.

Think about all you do for your clients.  You probably answer questions all the time about food and nutrition. On the phone.  In person.  Through email.  So, if you do it anyway, make it part of your offer. Advertise that you do it!

Sum it all up and put in on your website.  It can be in paragraph form or as bullets.  Hell, you can even use pictures if you can convey yourself that way.

The important part is you need to make a strong, compelling, COMPLETE offer if you want these people to give you their money.

And you do want them to give you their money, don't you?

Who would you prefer to give your money too?

Yeah! That's what I'm talking about. I myself love being SOLD something, rather than making a rational decision about spending money on it. Get your prospect's heartrate up with amazing offers!

Btw I was eating brown rice during this post and the diamond-turd pic threw me off there.

Kat Millar @ 3:59 pm

Fantastic blog! Thanks :-)

I definitely need to make a more compelling offer. I do so much for my clients, but they really don't know that 'til they are already signed up. I need to convert more leads to sales by listing all the extra benefits, such as ongoing email support, analysing their food diary etc.
Cheers!

I LOVED this article Leanne, fantastic job!

My website has been crap for way too long - it's far too hypey and is very obviously written as 'sales copy' as opposed to just putting over a good offer.

I'm going to redesign my whole image to reflect more of the vibe your website puts out - just a great offer from a great trainer who wants to help people get fit.

Thanks so much for the advice and inspiration!

Scott Williams @ 5:56 am

Ha, love the story Leanne, i knew it was going to lead somewhere… maybe just not to a big pile of poo… anyway awesome points on making sure the offers don't suck.

Time to go over my offers!!!!

Joyce @ 8:42 am

Leanne, that was great info! I am going to try to increase the excitement in what I offer today!

Lewis @ 11:31 am

Hey Leanne
That was just what i needed, i'm so guilty of having emotionless promotion offers and often wondered why i only had a poor response. This is exactly how it should be!

Cheers
Lewis

Awesome stuff and it's so true. I was thinking about all the offers and services that I read about everyday, just for my own life and there are some that really catch your eye and you go for them 100%.

james @ 8:29 pm

that was an exciting post. I really liked the way she worded everything. I will definitely work on the way present my offers going forward. Thanks
