Why Most Trainers Fail to Earn Six Figures: Common Personal Trainer Mistakes

A Personal Trainer Mistakes Post by Chris McCombs

Hey there … hope you're great

It's crazy how the average trainer earns 29k a year due to common personal training mistakes while a few earn six or even seven figures year after year. I live in Southern California, and 29k doesn't even cover my house payment.  And what's crazy is most of the ones who earn six figures aren't really any smarter OR better at training than the low earners

These common personal trainer mistakes are where most who DON'T earn six-figures go wrong… usually it's a combo of a few of these

1. They focus on being great at what they do ( training ) but not great at marketing what they do… when it comes to making money, whether you like it or not… the marketing is actually FAR more important than the training… I know lots of GREAT trainers who hardly make a thing… I'm not saying to not be a good trainer… but you should be an even better marketer

2. They think in terms of getting paid by the hour or session… not it terms of lifetime value of a client

3. They trade hours for dollars and don't have systems in their business to make money for them while they're off doing whatever… meaning they ONLY make money while they're training

4. They don't have clear goals with timelines

5. They think negative

6. They don't invest in their sales and marketing education enough

7. They think more certifications will get them more clients, which is a super common personal trainer mistake

8. They don't use mentors

9. They don't take enough of the right kinds of actions

10. They worry about the economy ( tied into # 5 above )

11. They rarely if EVER question the industry norms

12. They don't have enough energy and don't give their clients enough positive energy in the workouts

13. They don't show their clients that they're grateful to have them

14. They don't put people on EFT

15. They train one-on-one and don't do groups and/or bootcamps

16. They do what they see all the other trainers doin'

The solutions are easy… just do the opposite of the above.

—Think positive, if you need help with this, there's TONS of great books out there

—Set clear and defined goals

Set up multiple streams of fitness income.

—Get a mentor who's done what you want to do ( it's one of the best investments you'll ever make)

Become a great marketer… lot's of free info on my blog to help with that one

—Put your clients and EFT

—Create systems within your business so you can get to a point where your business runs on the systems and not you

—Look at what most trainers do and do the exact opposite ( since most are broke, this strategy works pretty damn good)

—Be energetic and show your clients how much you care for and appreciate em'

—Strategically increase the lifetime value of each client… boosting retention can increase your income from 100% – 500% or more ( depending how much you boost it obviously)

—Invest in your marketing education

—Become a GREAT marketer of what you do, NOT just a great trainer

—And train groups and boot camps… it's just too damn hard to make a good living as a private one-on-one trainer which is an all too common personal trainer mistake… even if you work seven days a week.  If you want to have a six-figure group training business, then DEFINITELY check out the Group Training Exploder program.

Group Training Exploder

If you'd like to earn five or more times as much as the typical fitness trainer and be able to work part time hours, then I HIGHLY recommend you get into group ( semi-private ) training

Group trainers can make $100,000.00 to $250,000.00 per year and can often do it working only 20 or 25 hours a week. Along with boot camps, it is by far the most profitable way kind of fitness training business to have.

In my Group Training Exploder program I walk you step-by-step through the ENTIRE process of building and owning a highly profitable group training business.
