The Best Kinds of Referral Magnets For Your Fitness Training Business

Fitness Marketing Guest Post by Michael Duivis

Hey whats up guys, this is Michael Duivis and I hope you’re doing awesome in your fitness business.

If you don't know who I am, well, I'm the guy next to Big Chris, Bedros and Steve in this pic… ( this pic was taken like a year ago, before Chris started working out again and leaning out… lemme tell you, he is ONE BIG DUDEI think I saw five people in about three hours ask him if he played football and two ask him if he was a pro-wrestler… I was worried Chris was gonna eat us )… we were down at the Frank Kern Mass Control event at the Hard Rock in San Diego… what a wild time.

I'm a private coaching client of Chris's and operate a few Fit Body Boot Camp locations in Southern California.

Now that it's 2010 you probably know all about Human Billboards and how the whole principle works. ( In case you don't know what Human Billboard Marketing is, click here to watch a video where Chris explains the whole Human Billboard thing )

However, one thing to bear in mind when 'hiring' your Human Billboards is that they are not all created equal…

During Fitness Business Summit I'm going to tell you about the kinds of Human Billboards you should avoid like the plague, but for now check out the quick little videos below that show you my favorite way of filling up your bootcamp with rockstar client-referral machines.

NOTE: Before you watch the next video download the following flyer to give to the hair salons -> ***download link for Hair Salon flyer***

Now here are some more notes on how to make this a success for your boot camp:

  1. First off, in the screen capture video I was using free software that had a 5-min max… (that explains the ending).
  2. When you walk into these hair salons unannounced you're going to want to explain why you're there. And usually you'll need to pass the front desk girls first. Mention that you run a boot camp "right down the street" and that you recently asked your clients where they get their hair done… AND that this salon was mentioned a few times… AND how your clients are absolutely in love with how awesome that hair salon is. Even if this is not true… it will make your chances of getting in with the hair salon that much bigger. And if you realize that anyone who joins your boot camp
  3. After getting the hair stylists in, visit the salons once every 2 weeks or so. This keeps the momentum going, and it keeps the stylists on their toes on what is expected of them. Also, if you go during 'hair salon prime time', which is Friday through Sunday, you'll meet new potential clients in person.
  4. Realize that most hair salons work on referrals just like you. So odds are they already work together with many businesses in the area. Therefore, be unique in your approach and always come with the giving hand. Help them in ways no other person can… for instance with my hair salons I'll teach the owner how to build a wordpress website, set up an autoresponder series, give them a bunch of killer headlines, etc, stuff like that.
  5. Then once you're really 'in', have them promote you to their email list. Hair salons have heavy traffic and their list can easily be up in the thousands. Make a special offer for that hair salon only (I recommend the Rapid Fat Loss program for $97) and provide a link to your website in the email they're sending out. Just make sure to review the email before it gets sent out – these people are usually horrible at marketing.
  6. And of course, once you hit every hair salon possible in your area, wash rinse and repeat this technique for beauty salons, tanning salons, strip clubs, etc.

That's it.. let me know in the comment box below if this worked for you. And remember, this is something you can do in just a couple of days!

Michael Duivis is a personal trainer and runs both a Culver City Boot Camp and a Huntington Beach Beach Boot Camp

Hey there, it's Chris… wanted to let you know about a brand-new super low-priced system I JUST RELEASED TODAY for keeping your fitness training clients for years and years… this alone can help you make a TON more money in your business… check it out…

Client Retention Blueprint

“How To Keep Your Clients For Years Instead Of Just Months”

  • Are you tired of clients canceling on you?
  • Frustrated with people who don’t stick with your program long enough to get results?
  • Sick and tired of trying to find new clients all the time just to replace the ones you lost?

Clients who stay longer often do two things…

  • They get better results
  • They refer more of their friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances

Here’s how the Client Retention Blueprint works…

  • Your clients get better results because they stay with you longer
  • Now, because they get better results and are around longer, they refer more people to you
  • Because of your ability to keep clients for years and years, you don’t constantly have to deal with the hassles and headaches of feeling pressured to try to get more clients all the time (Sure, you’ll wanna get new clients on a regular basis… but you won’t NEED to since your income just grows and grows … unlike most trainers, as you get new clients you’ll be keeping the old ones… instead of constantly trying to replace those lost clients… no more dealing with the revolving door 19 out of 20 trainers are plagued with)
  • And most importantly… you make more money

Hey Chris,

Great blog post on referrals, by Michael, and I checked out your newly released client retention blueprint website…looks like a great product.

I feel qualified to comment on the "art of cleint retention", as my average client has been with me for more than 19 years.

My most recent column in Personal Fitness Professional magazine http://tinyurl.com/yl3oyyg covers the topic of client retention and is relevant to this topic. It called "Have You Had Your Sally Field Moment". http://tinyurl.com/yl3oyyg
