A Fitness Business Post by Chris McCombs
Hey there, hope you’re great
I have a VERY important question for you at the bottom of this post
But first I gotta tell you about something that just happened… My assistant Del just walked in and scared the living sh*t outta me… I don’t believe in ghosts or anything but she sure as a hell trotted in looking like one
Check it out…

She’s a model and was just coming back from a shoot… I guess it was for “High Fashion” … whatever the hell that means, at least that’s what she said it was… high fashion? Who buys that shit?
I told her to get off the meth or she will no longer be trusted around my children.
Brutal.
In this post I wanna talk about having a reason why… cuz to really succeed and be fulfilled in what you do you need a big enough “reason why” to keep you kickin’ ass all the time
Below are some of my reasons… I’d LOVE to hear some of yours
Some of my reasons are…
1. My two daughters

2. I want my daughters to grow up in a safe and prosperous community
3. I want my daughters to go to private school
4. My wife Sarah
5. I want my wife and daughters to never have to worry about money
6. I don’t ever want to worry about money myself
7. I don’t want to have a job
8. I don’t want a boss
9. I don’t want to commute
10. I don’t want to trade hours for dollars
11. I want to make a giant contribution… I do it by helping trainers make more money and get more people into shape and live healthier lives… helping just one trainer get twice as many clients effects more people in a positive way than I can even count… the ripple effect is huge… healthy people usually live longer, are happier and better parents, teach healthy habits to their kids.. and on and on
12. Freedom… not being stuck in the rat race like most of society

13. So I can live my life knowing I didn’t buy into the great the lies that 99% of people have been conditioned to believe since they were young… like the only way to succeed is to go to college, work long hours and so on…
14. AND so I can help OTHER people not buy into the lie UNLESS they want to… I just love helping people wake up from a lifetime of negative conditioning… and the more people I can help do this, the more awake I become from my own negative conditioning.
15. So I can create things that make people happier and makes the world a better place to live in
16. So I can work where I want
17. So I can work when I want
18. What I do is exciting to me
19. It fulfills me spiritually (=
Those are just a few of mine… they’re definitely some of the biggies.
So I’m curious… why do YOU do what YOU do?
Is it just money?
Or do you have some big reasons why? … a larger purpose? … let me know in the comment section below…

I didn't trot in. It was more like a canter.
But running errands in your wifey's prenatal chiropractic "Crack Baby" wife beater and this get up was CLASSIC.
The very first reason I'm doing this is because every day my business is in operation I am helping people live longer, healthier, more confident, and happier lives.
The other reasons I'm doing this:
- to do what I want, when I want, wherever I want to do it
- to be able to take mini retirements in different locations around the world
- to be able to provide more than enough for myself and my future family…whenever that happens
- to go surfing
- to do something I believe in
- to constantly grow and evolve myself as a person
- nice shiny objects
- to buy a condo in downtown toronto
- freedom
- so I can run my life the way I want to
- so I can get up whenever I want to
- so I can sleep whenever i want to
- so I can buy whatever I want to
- so I can give more money to worth causes
There is a lot more than that but that's a start.
Its just the money. Lol.
Great post Chris thanks for sharing…it was good seeing you and the family this weekend at FBS. Those girls are going to be heartbreakers:-)
I do it what I do and I am relentless because:
I dont want to work for anyone
I want to do what I want when I want
Freedom to spend time with my family and nephews
Break my mom off with a Phat house (one day soon!)
Visit every continent and island in the world
To help others
Never have to worry about Bill collectors standing outside my door waiting for me to come home LOL!
To be at peace with who I am and my purpose
I did it all for the nookie come on the nookie…..
In all seriousness there is no way I could handle corporate america or some sort of office job. I certainly couldn't live my life working at a big box gym. I did that for 3 years and it was horrible. I also couldn't deal with selling something that I wasn't passionate about or didn't believe in.
I do what I do cuz i'm good at it and it comes natural to me.
I do what I do cuz i'm a sadistic mofo that loves dragging people out of their comfort zones and helping them achieve excellence.
I do what I do because I like having a flexible schedule, the flexible ability to do my job in any 1st world metropolitan city in the world, and the flexibility to change how I train my clients or how I run my business whenever I want. I have the option to adapt at any point.
I do what I do because I make tons of friends doing it. Some of my best friends in the past and the present started out as clients of mine. I meet new awesome, dynamic, successful people every month.
I do what I do because i'm always learning more. I can always improve more and learn more things. That makes this exciting. It never gets boring. Being a trainer has so many unique experiences.
And yes I do what I do because I can make fantastic money doing it, which can lead to opportunity and freedom in life.
One of the best reasons I do what I do, which is a very overlooked joy in life, is to be able to wake up when my body wants to wake up, or get out of bed when I want to get out of bed. 6 days per week I don't wake up to an alarm clock. I get up when I feel like it. That is awesome. That reduces so much stress in my life. I swear that is a huge reason that I never get sick. Ironically the only day I do get up to an alarm clock is saturday morning when I have my grueling 2 hour work day from 10 to noon. Life is good.
{Waking up from a life time of negative conditioning}.
Beautifully said, It's a feeling like none other.
Brilliant post man!!!!.
Easy.
To never experience the pain that comes from
being flat broke….again.
To work when I want
to go surfing and train when I want
to go travelling and not have to worry about money
to help my mum and buy her a house
to own my own dream house and car
so my kids never have to worry about money
Oh and obviously because it's pretty cool feeling helping people
Chris,
You had a lot of applicable reasons that I could relate to, but here are a couple of more…..
1. Being 51 an income in my old age (which is still quite a ways away)
2. Being able to help children out when they are going through hard times
3. Being able to visit adult children when I want
5. Being able to have grandchildren & great grandchildren over for extended periods of time
6. Being able to give to good causes
Dennis
I love watching someone gain confidence in themselves as they improve their fitness level and/or lose weight and knowing I played a part in that. I also love comments like one I received this weekend, "Thanks for making my wife hot!" LOL!
The reason why is such as huge factor…I remind myself of this daily now when I wake….why am i getting up at 5am to go train? The answers are very similar to yours Dan and Chris..so that someday soon I can do all those things I WANT to do. I was so frustrated with this industry about 1 year ago that I almost shut my biz down. One day I sent a message to Vince Delmonte asking him how he blew his biz up and he gave me two names; Chris Mccombs and Bedros Keuilian…My life has not been the same since. I've purchased with the exception of biz coaching every product you guys own and they were probably some of the best investments I ever made. I believed in your teachings and took MASSIVE FUCKING ACTION!!! It started with human billboarding/group training about 2 months ago…so far have 7 new paying clients, 23 highly qualified prospects on 2 week trials (group training of course) and another 14 prospects who WILL become clients…because of all this knowledge the sky is truly the limit and any trainers within a 15 mile radius of me should be very very scared. Anyway, because of your teachings and inspiration I'm on track for 6 figs in the next 90 days. THANK YOU!!! Keep killin it bro-migo!!!!!
I am motivated by some of the same reasons, but mostly because I believe that what I do is more than training it is life changing. I work hard and follow your advice along with Bedros and Steve because you guys are living the life that I would like for my family. I want to move out of the city and move into a nice neighborhood where our daughter can be exposed to better schools. I hate working hard during the day to come home, lay my head down at night and hear police sirens and loud music. But believe it or not, that stuff is pushing me to work smarter and get things done faster so we can get the hell out of that neighborhood.
1. I want to fly my self and children around the world teaching them about serving others, different cultures and perspectives of life.
2. I want to be free from the chains of mediocracy. To truly create a new path that is authentic to my nature at the deepest level.
3. I want to teach people about health, fitness and meditation. I believe we can heal on an individual level to transcend the obstacles that our society is faced with.
4. I want more money, because I believe my purpose is just and has value to the world.
5. The more time I have the more energy I can spend working for charity.
6. I believe I deserve all the universe has to offer, I am worthy of the gifts and pleasures of the world.
Thanks Chris, great post. Very important. A lot of us subconsciously push away what we really want, and you put it in perspective, "reasons why"!
Hmmm………….Its time to revisit that place and figure out what and why really.
It once was very clear of an answer but through time has become a bit fuzzy. Time to clear out the cobwebs and polish up the vision.
I just talked to a client about this last night… why does she want to lose weight? If you have a big enough "why" then you never lose sight of what you are doing. Here are my whys!
I like helping people and that is my true purpose for being here… fitness is the extension as to how I do it.
I want to work for myself
I want to take vacation when I want, how i want, and extend that vacation if I want
I want to be prosperous because it is my birthright
Get out the ratrace!
Fire my boss!
These a only a few.. I could continue. Keep bringing the "real" Chris.
Didn't see this post till now and just so happens the theme for my boot camp was their 'why!?' I absolutely agree this is one of the most important steps you need to do before you dive into anything and you need to go deeper than just making more money and helping for people. Whatever answer you come with, immediately ask yourself why is that important to you, how do you mean that? and then again why. Keep asking why and peeling the onion until you can't answer why anymore and then you'll have your true desire that you want fulfilled.
For me, just like any trainer I want to help as many people as I can get into great shape but what really drives me is the mental game with them. If I can consistently motivate my clients, give them the tools to do the same and help them break through any mental blocks they may have that are preventing them from achieving their goals that is what I do this for. Changing peoples bodies can change their lives. If can help them do that, that alone is reward enough.
But of course you can't live off of that so I also want to financial freedom to be able to do what I want, when I want, buy anything I want without thinking can I afford that. But why is that truly important to me? So when I have a family they never have to hear the 'we can't afford that'. So I never feel like I haven't done enough to be able to provide my family the life they deserve. And also I want to be able to travel and do mission work 2-4 weeks a year. To see when I'm donating to a charity what that work is actually doing and to meet the people that I am helping. Financial freedom allows the ability for me to change the lives of so many other people while of course allowing me to live the life I want to live.
The reasons that I do this?
1. To be able to set my own schedule.
2. To be able to help as many people see the benefits of exercise, and to show them just how easy it is to live healthier.
3. To make enough money to stop living in an apartment, so I can supprise my wife with a "new to us" home, and finally live the life we want to live.
4. To someday own my own business (gym).
5. Someday when we have kids, they never have to know the hardships, and can be proud of their father.
6. Yes, even to make money and lots of it.
7. This has been my dream job ever since I was a teenager.
8. To stop worrying how the bills are going to get paid.
9. Just to live life to its fullest without regret.
I wish that I could afford all of your programs, but right now that just isn't going to happen, so trying to learn all I can about being successful. Thank you for all the good information in your posts, blogs, and e-mails.
I don't ever want to work for anyone again
I like that -("Don't wanna trade hours for dollars")
I want to be totally creative, and not stressed by some employers dream I have my own.
To have my worth stifled by someone else's vision of who I appear to be.
Yo Chris,
My input on this would be that the most important is to be able to take care of those you love without the financial worry. So yeah, it does come down to money for me, but not just to buy things for myself.
Also am willing to work my ass off if the risk is worth the reward.
Keep up the good work bruh
Chuck
Find a job you love and you never work a day in your life!!!
I love to help people, being in the insurance industry for over 9.5 years I helped people everyday and loved the versatility I had everyday. The same is sought in the fitness industry. I can still help people and love the feeling I get when I hear someone in aw of their own success when they go shopping for pants and drop a couple sizes! It doesnt hurt to want my own success on the way yet knowing all I do in everyday is all for God and he will guide me and lead me to those who seek help! Thank you Chris for sharing your blogs, your emails and all your tid bits to help those of us who just are not at the level of buying all of your wonderful products. You know that when we can and are financially able, you will see our names more in your books from our orders! Have a blessed week and thank you again!
Here are mine Big Man:
- To make the World a Fitter Place
- To have a kick ass house with a games room, you gotta have fun rite?
- Leads on from my last on, Have Fun at Work
- Having more fun at work
- Getting people in truly amazing shape
- lying in 4 days a week and having me time
- working less hours than the rest of society and earning more
- Finally…I just love what I do man!!!
My top 3 reasons:
1) My mom, my sister, my dad, my girlfriend
2) My clients
3) My mom, my sister, my dad, my girlfriend
These are the only reasons… period =)
I truly do this for the passion I have for it!
However, I'm relentless and forever determined to succeed because I want my little girl to have more than I. Just as you mentioned in your post.
I wake up with her smile in my head and I use it as my motivation in everything I do. When the stress builds up and the tasks seem daunting, I think of my little girl and my wife and push towards success!
The money, the freedom, the toys, it would all be worthless to me if I didn't have these two angels in my life.
Its certainly an emotion that I never thought possible…the unyielding desire to give all of yourself for the sake of another…
