A Fitness Marketing and Personal Training Business Post by Chris McCombs
Hey there, hope you’re doin’ awesome
I just got back from a great workout… super-setted pull-ups and shoulder presses ( at 320 pounds pull-ups are always a good time), and did barbell shrugs ( sets of 8 with 535lbs strict) and finished of with some arm and grip work for good measure
I’m glad I own businesses that pretty much run themselves so I can go to the gym in the middle of the day when it’s empty… I almost always use the power rack and that damn thing is always taken during prime time hours.
Anyhow, my support staff gets the following question from readers ALL THE TIME… and even though I’ve addressed it to different degrees before, I figured I’d lay it out as simple as possible for you here today…
It goes like this…
“I just left the corporate big-box gym I was training at to break off on my own, and I want to make six-figures a year training, what should I do?”
Well, the best answer is actually “Read all my blog posts, buy all my shit, and take massive action on it, and let NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING get in your way”
That’s actually the best answer to the question, however, let me give you another, more detailed answer… and this can actually help you hit not just six-figures, but a HIGH six-figures or even seven figures…
1. Create a list of clear cut and definable goals that you are passionate about reaching
You’ll need a reason WHY you wanna reach these goals – for me it’s mostly…
So my wife and kids never have to worry about money and I don’t ever have to suffer the prison of a day job again in my life ( I actually have about 20 reasons, but these two alone are enough to pull me through)
2. Decide in your gut that NOTHING will stop you from reaching your goals
3. Work backwards to reach your goals…
So say you want to make 250k a year training 20 hours a week
Figure out how many clients you’d have train and at how much money to have to make that much, and then create a plan get those clients
4. Train groups and/or boot camps, ignore one-on-one training if your serious about making a lot of money as a trainer, if you ENJOY one-on-one and making a strong six-figure income isn’t all that important to you, by all means go ahead and load your days up with single client sessions, but just realize you’re making about 20% in each of those hours as you could be
5. Put your clients on EFT automatic billing – this alone can double your income over the course of a year, and it’s super quick and easy to set-up and will save you a ton of time and headaches.
6. Become the best trainer you can be
7. Become an even better marketer than you are a trainer ( This is where buying and implementing all my shit comes in)
8. Fill every single hour that you’re willing to train that you are not booked to max capacity with human billboard clients
9. Use solid direct response techniques to aggressively market yourself on the internet… this includes…
- Having a high converting direct response website
- Video marketing
- Search engine optimization
- Pay per click advertising
- Facebook advertising
- Online classified ads
- Meetup.com
- Email Marketing
- Having a highly-influential authority fitness blog
10. Set up referral generation systems in place
11. Set up client-retention systems in place
12. Hire a coach or find a mentor who’s done it themselves and let them to help guide you along the way
13. Join a mastermind group of other successful and hungry/dedicated fitness pros where you can share ideas and support eachother
14. Use effective and low-cost offline marketing strategies like…
- Lead generation boxes
- Public speaking engagements
- Becoming a local fitness expert on your local news channels as well as in local publications
- Direct response post card mailers ( just make sure to use all the elements of proven direct response, and test small and then scale it one you know your numbers)
15. Give back – help out a few others in need, whether financially or with your time and wisdom or both ( asking nothing in return)
16. Spend a few minutes every day thinking about how you can improve your business
17. Manage your time properly so you can focus on growing your business and not just training, without effective time management it’s almost impossible to get ahead without ending up burned out and miserable
18. Observe what most trainers are doing and get ideas here and there, but mostly to learn what NOT TO DO from them, since most of the industry lives month-to-month, they’re a great case study in what NOT TO DO… observe and do the opposite
19. Never give up, let’s say your goal is to hit 250k in 12 months, and you only hit 130k per year… no biggie, you’re probably a lot farther along then if you didn’t have your goal, just keep trudging forward, let nothing get in your way and you will hit it
And that leaves me to number twenty, which is “buy all my shit and take action on it”
Almost all of the steps above are outlined in great detail in my programs
And I’ve actually bundled all my stuff together for you for a super low price for a limited time ( it’s like 70% off right now) – here’s where you can see it… ( and BTW, I made it so damn affordable that if you already own 3 or 4 of my products, you’re still saving a bundle, most of the people reading this have purchased multiple products from me… and I factored that in… so I cut the price down so low that even if you’ve bought half my stuff already, this offer is still worth it)
