The "Easy Way" To Get Tons Of Publicity
A Fitness Marketing Guest Post by Zach Hunt
Hey! What's up, hope you're day is goin' great
I had kinda a weird experience and I really want to tell you about it…
So yesterday I went to the grocery store with a friend. I've been trying to diet down the past month or two on a lower carb nutrition plan. And although it was working real well I decided to do a bit of cheating on my diet, or so I thought…
I picked up a frozen pizza and a few other choice items (of the unhealthy variety) and went to go check out…
Normally I would go-to one of those "self-checker" stations when doing something like this, but I was at Safeway and unfortunately they didn't have those.
We started to checkout and about halfway through ringing up my items the lady goes, "aren't you that personal trainer", I responded, "yes, I do fitness training".
I could then just see her looking at my items I was buying with a look of disapproval and possibly confusion.
This happening once is maybe by coincidence, but just a few weeks back another lady at an Albertsons saw I was buying a Twinkie or something and started to announce "personal trainer on the doughnut aisle" and how there was a sale on the candy bars that day, and my friend who was with me at that time went back and forth with her making fun of me. Well that was just kind of bizarre.
Anyway, the point to all this being, how'd they even know I was a personal trainer?
Over the past few years I've studied and bought thousands of dollars in info products, books, audio programs and coaching all on getting into the media… and it certainly worked.
Check this out, over the just the first year of pursuing publicity in my local city, I was on TV over 20 times, published in three magazines regularly, published in multiple newspapers and on multiple radio interviews including a nationally syndicated show.
This is not all to brag or anything. It's just to show a little about how easy it is to get into the media when you know how to do it. Out of all the info I devoured on this topic it can basically be boiled down to a few simple steps on how to get into the media on the following 4 most important areas:
- TV
- Magazines
- Newspapers
- Radio
Check out a brief highlight of some of the media over just a 12 month period…
And here's just some of the published magazine articles, in 3 different magazines…

Being in the media is one of the most powerful things you can do for your training business:
- It gives you mountains of credibility which in turn gives you heaps of authority (one of the Weapons Of Influence)
- Positions you as the goto expert in your city for fitness solutions. Even if you don't train for your business you can still leverage your credibility for your business (which is what I do).
- Makes the sales process infinitely easier cause if the media trusts you then why shouldn't a prospect trust you.
- Enhances all of your marketing promotions as you can recycle media coverage (video clips on your website or sales video, magazine articles around your studio and so on)
- It's a great marketing vessel in itself, and can help generate a ton of leads for your training business.
Basically if you're not taking advantage of publicity for your fitness business. You're losing out on a lot.
Some trainers might be resistant to publicity thinking it's too hard or takes too much time, or you have to luck into it by having a producer show up to your training or contact you randomly.
That's the great thing about publicity (it has the PERCEPTION as being only for the elite by the general public). Most people don't know just how easy it is to get on TV by next week if you want.
Which is why Chris and I created Fitness Media Profits
An insiders guide on how to get into the media within just a few days. Covering the 4 main media outlets and secrets about how they work (TV, Magazines, Newspaper, and Radio)

Zach, thanks for sharing this. Im buying your product now!
Awesome blog Zack! I think trainers can get trapped into thinking there are others more "media worthy", but it's all in how you go about it. Great idea for a product!
I live in the same town as Zach, and I think he's literally got a punchcard for Dairy Queen and Burger King.
