Crazy Client Getting Strategy

7

A Fitness Marketing Post From Sam O' Sullivan

Hey there, it's Big Chris, hope you're doin' great

Here's an email I go recently from one of my coaching clients Sam o' Sullivan from the UK and a strategy he's been using… he's always using a bunch of outta the box ways to market his business

I thought this one was pretty cool so I figured I'd share it with you… as it seems to be working pretty well for him

Subj: Chris – Check This Out

My personal training business is blowing up and I wanna thank you for your coaching – your help has been huge

I thought I'd share some best practice with you and on how I'm generating lots of interest in my Boot Camps using the football World Cup.

I suppose this is just another one of my spontaneous ideas that definitely is working….again!! I was working my way through your market annihilator programme on my laptop as I was watching the Soccer and thought of this crazy idea.

Let me explain….

I think that as Personal trainers and marketers, we can often loose sight of whats happening around us. To have a kick ass business you definitely want to make sure your website is ranking high on google and since I've joined your mentoring programme I'm getting lots of calls from the internet, as you've taught me all the ins and outs of how it all works.

So as personal trainers this is something you've gotta get into place – rank high on google is my number one advice.

But sometimes….when you just feel like going out there and trying to get some clients, its nice to be able to do things a little different. This is where my idea came in and trust me it works! Raising the energy is key in your 1:1 Personal Training sessions, your group sessions and your boot camps.

High energy gets your clients results, motivates them far more and makes the likelihood of you receiving referalls explode.

So I enjoy raising the energy and doing things slightly different in the recruitment for my bootcamps. Basically with the Soccer World Cup currently being a global phenomenon, I've used this to help get in a hell of a load of people in on Free Trial Workouts. My Boot Camps are great and all my clients love them, so i know if I can get new people in for Free, then the likelihood is they will sign up.

But as many of you perhaps struggled where I did previously, getting people into the boot camps can be a difficult task. People often think that they are fine on their own, or its not for them, or they don't need a personal trainer, or well any excuse. Basically these guys are scared…a little like we all were at our first day at school. This is normal guys, so we have to make them feel welcome.

There is no better way to make them feel welcome than having a chat one to one in an area or a place they feel comfortable and if you can make them laugh….well even better. So I've used the Football World Cup and played a little joke on members of the public in and around the busiest shopping street in my city.

I basically got a load of yellow and red cards printed by a friend. It cost me little more than $40 and lets just say I've already recruited that back plus another zero on the end ($400) and I've still got a hell of a load of people in for Free workouts from this simple idea this week.

The World Cup is on for a while yet, so god only knows how much money I'll make. So its certainly been worth the small fee and if these people stay long term, it will be worth thousands of dollars per year.

So what did I do?

Basically, I'd basically march upto people in the Street Dressed as a soccer referee, with a soccer ball under my arm.

Look I appreciate this is not for everyone, but it worked for me BIG TIME.

I'd show the guy or girl a yellow or red card. The Yellow card has "YOUR BOOKED" and the red card "YOUR OFF". People find this hillarious and well always ask, "What are you doing?". I hand them the yellow or red card which basically has information on the back regarding my bootcamp – Location, times, details plus access to a FREE Trial Workout. I talk to them about the bootcamp and how massively big it up. I handed 50 out the other day and 18 booked in on the spot for free trail workouts.

As Personal Trainers we have to ensure that every workout is different for our clients, we need to use our imagination and think out of the box…but we must do the same for part of our marketing.

Don't get me wrong 95% of marketing is having a solid website that has a strong call to action, a website that ranks the top of google and a blog that allows people to escape the qualms of everyday life.

But as I think you will agree, there is a small place in your marketing to be yourself. A place where you can raise the energy and get rewards on the spot. Its awesome to train a client and come back to your phone to have several missed calls from people who want you to train them – thats the power of the internet and tapping into internet marketing, but its sometimes fun to go out there and be yourself and generate tour own Free Trial Workouts.

I've used the Soccer World Cup which is a tournament of 32 nations and is watched all over the world. So when I've been showing my yellow and red cards to members of the public, everyone understands. It's soccer mania at the moment, so its been a big success.

Undoubtedly as personal trainers we can use our imagination and do similar things for Christmas, Thanks Giving, the Super Bowl, absolutely anything!! Just like in your boot camps be different, raise the energy and go out there and get clients.

If as a Personal Trainer who struggled for years, I can leave you with one piece of advice its, Don't leave getting clients to luck, luck is for casinos.

Base your business on proven systems. Get to grips with internet marketing, a solid website, a blog, rank high on google and get out there and make it happen with fun and perhaps a little insane ideas.

The referee suit and booking members of public may not work for you, but I'm sure if you have a think you'll find a great way to generate leads.

Thanks Chris, and again, I love your coaching, the results have been nothing short of amazing

AWESOME post and idea! So what I don't get is the difference between the two cards and what the two phrases mean/ represent.
Thanks

Michael @ 7:38 pm #

That is a very good idea…smiliar to BJ Gaddor doing Interval Man…and same concept some companies use with mascots.
