Facebook Ads For Fitness Pros

Hey there, hope life is treating you as good as you’re treating it

This post has some super cool tips and tricks for getting clients from Facebook

But before we jump into the Facebook strategies, check this out… there’s a HUGE lesson in the story I’m about to tell you… it’s a lesson in “posing out” … well… kinda

Ok…

My editor Torry (for the documentary “Add To Cart” I’m making with Bedros about internet marketing) wanted some pics of me when I was a little 14 year old rockin’, bmx riding, snake catching, pot smoking weirdo…  not to say I’m still not kind of a weirdo today, but now I ride a Harley instead of a Mongoose, traded my fascination with snakes in for one of internet marketing, and swapped out the 4 foot bong for my own spiritual path as well as all that cool personal development/ psychology and prosperity mindset stuff…

The hard rock and metal is still there though… Metallica, Tool, Pantera and Eminem are cranked almost daily around here… especially when driving, working, doing cardio or lifting.

So check out this pic my mom sent me for Torry…

Now, a few cool facts about this pic…

Fun Fact One: That little brother of mine standing next to me is now Head of Business Operations for Facebook… that’s right, he’s in charge Facebooks ENTIRE monetization strategy… he’s the #1 guy in charge of how Facebook makes money… back in school he was Valedictorian, prom king, most likely to succeed, never got anything lower than an A+ in his life ( seriously) kind of kid… if you think I’M financially successful, he trumps me in that department.. however, he also works about five times as much as I do and commutes… ughh

Fun Fact Two: I guarantee I had a nice big fat sack o’ weed, a lighter, a pipe and a bottle of Visine in my pocket… you can actually see it just under my right hand

Fun Fact Three: As you can tell from my looking at my stunning genetics in the pic, I’m a natural mesomorph

Fun Fact Four: My hair was AWESOME… I know it, you know it, and Lynard Skynard knows it… well … at least the ones who didn’t die tragically know it

Fun Fact Five: That was my standard “I’m a bad mutha f*cka” pose that I did for each and every years Christmas pic my mom would send out to the friends and relatives… she HATED it… but what was I supposed to do… smile?

Ok, now here’s the funny thing… I STILL pose out…. just as cheesy as I ever did… and today I actually get PAID to do it.. don’t believe me?

Lemme explain…

First of all… look at this pic my wife Sarah took of me this morning of me, my house and a few of my toys just 10 minutes BEFORE I opened the envelope with that old pic my mom sent over…

Same cheesy pose… just without the cool hair…  in fact, today I don’t really have any hair at all, it keeps creeping back year by year so about 15 years ago I said “F it” and started shaving it down

Now, in this cheesy pose, it’s NOT for Moms yearly Christmas card, it’s actually for my bank account

You see, I went to buy a new Dodge Viper yesterday and didn’t even come close to being able to fit in the damn thing, so I bought a brand new 2010 Convertible Corvette instead

Being a marketer, I knew it was an opportunity to pose out with my Truck, Harley, Vette and new 4500 sq foot house

So,,, I did what any good marketer would out… I posed out, like I’m trying to figure out which toy to drive today or something… at least that the caption I used when I threw it up on Facebook

Cheesy? No doubt

Does it serve a purpose and make me more money? ABSOLUTELY

You see, since I teach “make money strategies” to the fitness industry, anything I can do to subtly OR not-so subtly remind my audience I know a bit about making money is good and serves me ( cuz remember, as fitness pros, entrepreneurs and marketers, we’re in the self-aggrandizement business more than just about anything else.. theres WAY more money in being a master at self-aggrandizement then there is getting people in  top shape… even though you still train people… your ability to market yourself is where the real money is)

So… how does this apply to you?

If you teach people how to get in shape, use every opportunity you can to remind your market of your incredible powers, how when it comes to getting people into shape, you know what the hell your doin’… testimonials, before and afters, video case studies, and even videos of you working out, eating good and so on… do all of it

If you teach guys how to get girls, you might wanna have pics of hanging out with all kinds of hot girls… cheesy as hell but profitable as hell

The bottom line with this posing out thing is that it works, NEVER forget to use every device and chance you can to remind your market that you know what the hell your talking about… and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll be able to laugh at yourself for some of the hilarious shit you do..

( HUGE TIP: Just remember to balance out the “bragging” with poking fun at yourself… you’ll come off less arrogant and more likable, human and trustworthy that way… this post is a perfect example of it)

Ok, now onto Facebook…

My little bro isn’t the only one making a ton of money from Facebook

I invest about 15K in Facebook ads and generally make at least 7 times my money back each month

Now, YOU don’t need to invest that much, remember, I’m like a marketing weirdo guy, you can do just 3% to 10% of that and pull in lots of new clients

Just use the ad feature and target as deeply as possible ( age, location, gender, etc)

Use a pic of ( mostly) women ( attractive ones) working out having fun in the ad ( unless you ONLY train men) – you see both men and women like to look at women’

Action pics of women working out can do wonders for your click-throughs… test it out for yourself

Here’s an example of an ad I use to target trainers..

It has all the elements of a good ad

Now obviously if you sell fitness training, and not make money stuff, you’d sell on benefits targeted to your niche, not mine

Simply use an attention grabbing headline and compelling copy to get people to click, and actually TELL them what to do.. like “Click here to find out more”

Bid two cents above Facebooks lowest suggested bid, and if your ad isn’t showing add a penny or two a day until it starts showing

From the ad, send people to a squeeze page with…

  • an attention-getting headline
  • a promise
  • a picture and short explanation of something free that delivers on that promise ( like a voucher for two free weeks training)
  • show a picture of the free thing
  • tell them HOW to get the free thing ( like “just put your email in below”)
  • an opt-in form
  • and a trust statement and symbol about how you won’t sell their email addy.

Here’s an example of a squeeze page I use for my fitness marketing niche ( remember, this is not for local training, it’s for fitness marketing, but the template should give you an idea of what I’m talking about)

Now, on the page they land on AFTER they’ve given you the email, deliver on the free thing

You could give them a free report or video and then have a sales copy for your services under the free thing they got… OR…

The free thing could be like a free two week pass for your boot camps or group training or whatever.

( Test to see which strategy converts best for you)

The ones who don’t convert right away simply put them in your prospects campaign in your email management software and send them content ( like on your blog) and offers/pitches on a regular basis, to convert them from prospect to client.

This is a kick as way to get new clients… and pretty easy to do, WAY easier than using Google Adwords these days… I love it and it’s one of my main lead gen sources by far.

I’d love to hear your comments below, especially about my awesome hair in the pic at the top of the post

And if you’d like to learn all the ins and outs and be walked by the hand through the ENTIRE process of getting lots of new clients from Facebook, then I STRONGLY suggest you check out Josh Carters brand new “Fitness Facebook Funnel” .. it’s one of the best new programs for trainers I’ve seen anyone put out in a while

  5. Tom says:

The Facebook tips are great but your picture is even better.

  6. Great stuff Chris! Is there any validity to the idea that people prefer to stay on facebook (for "security" reasons), and therefore should be sent from your fb ad to a sales/welcome page on your fan page as opposed to a different site? I've had better luck putting clickable pages with opt-in forms on my fan page's welcome page (set as landing page for non-fans), and found that many who did not opt in would at least "like" the page (or click on it and go to my site), which still allowed me to keep in contact with them. Just curious if there are any pros/cons to either approach. Sorry for saying page so much.

  7. Good post. I am going to try this in the coming months and see how it goes!! Thanks Chris!

  8. As always, I simple but powerful post on more great marketing ideas. I am finding it hard to keep up!!

    Keep cranking them out!

  9. @Next Level PT: Disregard my above post. Just found out FB just eliminated FBML/Boxes :( . Fortunately, they're grandfathering people in and I got mine up before the cut-off.

Thanks chris, great post and awesome hair. Good to see a real Australian band on the shirt
