Why would I fly half way across the world to hang out with a bunch of trainers?!
When my buddy Big Chris asked me if I’d like to be in his ‘mastermind’ group I was like- “No way man, I’m already doing great, why on earth would I spend 15k and travel half way across the frickin world to shoot the shit with a bunch of dudes who just train people”
Ohhhh how wrong I waas!
It was Big Chris McCombs’ of kick back life fame’s weekend and other members of the group included my buddy Jon Le Tocq, the current UK personal trainer of the year, 7 figure Sam AKA- Sam Bakthiar, the video boss Andy Jenkins who runs an 8 figure business, Jay Ferrugia who has a kick ass online business and an awesome gym in New Jersey, Valerie Waters, who trains Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Cindy Crawford, J-lo and a whole boat load of other MAJOR celebrities. In fact, I could dedicate a whole blog post just to how awesome the guys in the group are BUT that may bore you… and Morty don’t do boring ![]()
So this blog post is really to tell you about the things that I learnt that weekend and hopefully give you some inspiration to go out and do something extra-ordinary today
A few of the things I was reminded of, others blew my mind!
1. Its okay to earn a lot of money in the fitness industry
I get sick of people who don’t make any money in this profession of ours having a pop at the people that do!
Bullshit such as ‘its not all about money, I’m in this industry to help people’ or ‘ I’m sick of hearing about 6 figures’ or ‘ He/she is only interested in making money now, not in helping people’
You know what? F*CK THAT. I’m sorry but it’s as simple as this- The money you earn is DIRECTLY correlated to how many people’s lives you change on a daily basis.
We’re fit pros right? We change people’s lives. In my humble opinion, we should be paid VERY well for this.
ACTION POINT:
Realize this: If you’re not earning the money you’d like its either because A- you’re not a good enough trainer and don’t get good enough results or B- you’re not good enough at telling people how good you are.
So you need to either A- become a better trainer and go and learn some more or B- tell people about the results you’re getting IE- learn a little bit about marketing and Big Chris’s site is TREMENDOUS for that!
2. Having said that, it ISN’T all about the money.
I actually have another blog post on this very thing here
You see, Money is all about getting ‘stuff’. Frank Kern’s ‘core influence’ first taught me about this.
ACTION POINT: Instead of chasing money and ‘stuff’ Write down your ideal day. A day that you could live day and day out and not get bored. Pretty much your ‘perfect day’
No work out how much money you actually NEED to live that day every day.
It’s probably NOWHERE near what you thought it was.
In fact, it might not even be 6 figures!
You see, my goal is to spend A LOT of time with my now almost 8-month-old son, Max therefore earning 6 figures but working 14 hours a day wouldn’t be congruent with that. Would it?
I’m now in a position where I’m able OR maybe I’m just lucky that I’m now able to earn 6 figures AND be able to spend 3 and a half FULL days a week with him J
3. It’s ALL down to the people around you.
I think I’ve written about this before and you’ve probably heard it before. In my eyes you are DEFINITELY the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.
I believe in this 10000000%. I see so many clients and coaching members dragged down by the people who they hang out with who ‘chip away’ at their confidence and ambition.
In Vegas my eyes were well and truly opened. I consider the people I speak to on a regular basis as pretty positive, successful people but the guys in Vegas were a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.
I was inspired by their words and advice.
Humbled by their kindness, ideas and openness.
I was also blown away by their inspiration, self motivation and thought processes.
These guys are millionaires WHO STILL WORK REALLY HARD BECAUSE THEY LOVE WHAT THEY DO and have changed my mindset forever.
Since returning, there’s had to be a facebook clear out of moaners- yep, there’s trainers in there too, a change of launderette, a change of cleaner, a few numbers have had to be removed from my phone.
I simply don’t want to allow myself to be exposed to this negativity and scarcity mindset. It’s just not for me.
ACTION POINT: start ‘hiding’ anyone’s statuses in your news feed that are negative, start hanging out with people who know more than you and earn more than you. Learn from them
4. Shouting ‘Buy my shit’ every day on facebook sucks.
‘LOUD NOISES’
I’m sick and tired of it and I bet your prospects and ‘friend list ‘ is too!
Anyone who has their business name as his or her name will be getting removed from my facebook. Anyone that shouts ‘buy my shit’ every day is going the journey too.
PEOPLE DON’T GO ONTO FACEBOOK TO BUY STUFF AND BE SPAMMED.
People like to ‘hang out’ on facebook. They want to read INTERESTING things.
So give me interesting, honest, HIGH QUALITY content or at least have an opinion on something.
Enhance my experience of using facebook.
ACTION POINT: Write an informative article, put together a webinar, share one of your clients’ stories – (putting ‘another client has lost x amount of lbs’ is horseshit by the way)
Show me you actually know something and can get results.
5. YOU should be the ROCKSTAR of your business if you want to be UBER successful
Plain and simple.
Chris has already posted some killer content on Andy Jenkins ‘perfom and publish’ theory.
You MUST let your personality come through in everything you do.
People buy from people.
Sure, being boring will get you some clients and make you a living but to create an EMPIRE you need to be a frickin ROCKSTAR! Be bold, be brash- BE REAL.
ACTION POINT: Shoot a short video telling your facebook readers something interesting, maybe a right at the end of a workout you just did- DO NOT script it. I want to see a real person.
6. Fat people should have to pay for two seats if they take up two seats.
Seriously, on my last flight of a near 26-hour journey a fat guy sat next to me and was literally on my knee- sweating.
There should actually be some sort of rule against that. Its unfair to the person sitting next to them right?
ACTION POINT: take your business card on all flights!
So that’s it, hope you enjoyed my little random rant and I hope I inspired you to take action

Great post Paul, inspiring stuff dude!!!
Great words man!
Hey, great post, particularly about FB. The use of social media for sales is becoming one of the biggest f@#k up's of all trainers. I am going to resort to violence if I get any more "this opportunity is great" requests for bloody supplements
Raw and unfiltered! Awesome mate!
You rock dude! Its great.
