BRAND NEW Fat Loss Training and Nutrition Program
for Fitness Pros: See Advanced Fat Loss Training Here

In this post I want to address two simple things that will not only help grow your training business a ton… but will make your clients love you ten times more than your typical client loves your typical trainer ( Now not in gay way or mushy way… I mean ‘love’ as in “really like a ton, want to help out, think are awesome. want to tell people about and keep coming back and paying more money to be around” … THAT kind of love)
1. Keeping your clients accountable
2. Getting your clients results.
Recently I was hanging out with my buddy Jason Ferruggia in Las Vegas, and he had one of his own ‘Renegade Strength and Conditioning’ shirts on, shamelessly self-promoting like a good marketer should.
On the back of the shirt there’s a quote by one of my favorite … well… favorite dudes to quote… Henry Rollins. The T-shirt said…
“Bodybuilding is for men who wax their bodies and traipse around in bikinis. I train.” —Henry Rollins
Now, I personally don’t have anything against body builders, in fact, I have plenty of friends who are body builders… many of them who compete.
And sometimes I even train like a bodybuilder.. for example, I stand about 6’6″ and have extremely long limbs and a short torso…. so I’m built to deadlift and pull like a horse.
But when it comes to upper-body pressing stuff, my super-long arms end up doin’ most of the work, and I was never able to really hit my target muscles properly… so I’ve found that if I throw in some bodybuilding isolation-type stuff like DB flyes for my chest and DB side-lateral raises for my medial delts…. that when I do that stuff I end up looking a lot better and stronger because of using some simple body builder type stuff allowing me to isolate and target the muscles better.
But as far as being a bodybuilder, personally I don’t have the genetics OR the discipline for it, and I’m not a huge fan of the look these days anyway, I prefer the lean and mean athletic look myself.
But I DO love to train.
I love to train myself.
And I love to train others.
HOWEVER, as you and I both know, training is only a small part of the equation when it comes to getting into shape, ESPECIALLY losing fat.
The most important thing you do in your entire training business is get your clients the results they want…
Now, obviously not EVERYONE is gonna get great results, and more often than not in a *typical* training business it’s a sorta 80/20 thing… 80 percent not getting results and 20 percent getting results
Or more likely, a 20/60/15/5….
20% of clients get little or no results... they eat like crap, miss workouts and rarely do their cardio or other
assignments.
60% of clients give somewhere between little, decent, and so/so results… and they usually put in about as much effort as they get out of it… just like everything else in life
15% of clients getting good results… and these ones usually do some combo of eating good, doing their cardio and showing up for their workouts with you and giving it their all
And about 5% get KICK ASS RESULTS… they eat good, train hard, and rarely ever miss a scheduled workout… they put a ton of effort into your program and they look like it
I said this is the breakdown of a “Typical” training business…
NOW… if you’re a subscriber of mine, I highly DOUBT you own a typical training business or are anything close to being a *typical* trainer
Chances are your at the top of the craft and are getting your clients kick ass results…
And I highly doubt that last week you stumbled into some big box gym and applied for a job
I’d be willing to bet good money that you take getting results for your clients VERY SERIOUSLY
The difference this makes is EVERYTHING
When they know you care, and it shows you care, and you believe in them, you push them, drive them, and do everything in your power to get them the results they want, creating a tribe of loyal clients and raving fans is just one of the many positive byproducts of this process…
You’re not just some guy showing up at a corporate gym putting in your 8 hours of work holding a stop watch and clip board, counting reps and getting paid for 8 hours or work being a clipboard holder
You probably do extra things like…
- Keep your clients accountable to their cardio … I used to have clients who’s car keys I would hold and wouldn’t give back until they put in their treadmill time
- Keep your clients accountable to their results – Keep a close eye on the results , or lack of results, which in and of itself is a result of it’s own… it’s the result of making poor eating choices
The other day I sent out an email about keeping your clients accountable, I talked about things like Mandatory Weigh-Ins like 7-Figure Sam does, when it’s “weigh-in” day you can’t even enter his facility without your weight being tracked, and if you’re not making progress Sam will give you the beatdown of your life… well not really, but you will have some explaining to do for your lack of results
Have your clients text you a pic of every meal, snack and thing they eat during the day. If they eat it, they must take a photo with their phone and text it over
Have weekly client photos taken ( this will also help you build your stockpile of before and after pics, which are crucial for your marketing and social proof)
Have consequences when they screw up, and rewards and positive acknowledgment when they’re doing their best
Have higher level programs ( which you charge more for BTW) and make being part of these advanced programs a HUGE GOAL for your clients base. However, you have to reach a certain level of results or progress or fitness before you can join.
The key here is to make them want in it… BAD
Do regular spot check calls to check in on their eating and out of the gym assignments like cardio
Perform random kitchen searches
- Give them safe, effective and fun workouts... hopefully done in a progressive and well thought out manner with goals and some sort of accountability system like measurement, pics, bodyweight or whatever works best for you
- Do things to keep them motivated when you feel their level of enthusiasm slacking off
Motivation comes from within, but it can also be highly contagious as well as tapped into in someone by just guiding their thinking process a little.
- Know what drives and use this as leverage – For example, by knowing what their biggest hot buttons, motivators, behavioral patterns, fears, frustrations, desires, perceived obstacles, as well as what their biggest carrots and sticks are (drivers, positive and/or negative) … you can leverage this knowledge to help best serve your client in so many ways.
- Nutrition obviously should be one of the key elements of your program, and like most good trainers I’m sure you realize it’s the “make it or break it” factor in the success of most of your training clients
We both know that it’s hard to out train a crappy diet, and it’s VERY hard to make large changes in a client’s appearance without them getting their nutrition in order.
Nutrition is the bottleneck is the bottleneck in many trainers business

Chris I don't know about "Emile" But your writing is off the chain. If I didn't already think I was a half decent trainer, I would buy into it. Not cause of him but because your writing would move me to do so…Thanks
