21 Proven Boot Camp Success Strategies

A Fitness Boot Camp Marketing Post By Steve Hochman

Hey Steve Hochman here… And there is nothing more cool than having multiple 6-figure boot camps overflowing your bank about, giving you personal freedom, and allowing you to “live the life”.

But for this to happen there are certain fundamental boot camp business building strategies that you have to consistently implement.

In fact, before we teach any of our client attracting techniques to our Fit Body Boot Camp owners, we extensively beat them up in our boot camp “test kitchen” first.

So for you to help you experience freedom, security and “the life”, here are 21 proven boot camp client getting strategies.

Use this as a “check list” to make sure you’re doing everything right…

#1 Bring the F#$%ING energy – I know I’ve said this a thousand times but it’s because even if you do everything else right, you’ll NEVER have the business success you dream about if you don’t over-deliver your energy EVERY time.

Make a promise right now, that from now on, you’ll pretend one million viewers are watching your every move when you teach boot camp, and you will always be ON FIRE!

#2 Keep your boot camps continuous – It’s so weird that you can have an “exploding with profits” group training business that goes on and on month to month, but a lot of trainers still think that having a boot camps that goes for 4 to 6 weeks, then take a 1 to 2 week break is the way to go.

Once I market and get new clients, I don’t want to have to market to those same clients over and over again.

That’s why every Fit Body Boot Camp owner has their boot camps go non-stop… (Way more profit with way less marketing)

And just in case you’re thinking, “Continuous boot camps, when do I get a break?”  Read on and I’ll go over that too :)

#3 Own a real “business” not a “job” – One of the reason so many boot camp trainers want to do 4 to 6 weeks on, then 1 to 2 weeks off is because they need a break.

But if you’ve followed the Fit Body Boot Camp model, then you know that when YOU teach all your boot camps then you own a job, and when you have OTHER trainers teaching your boot camps then you’re running a REAL BUSINESS.

Phase another trainer into your boot camp, phase yourself out, open another location and repeat the process just like Fit Body boot Camp owners are doing all over America.

Own a business not a job.

#4 Use EFT (auto debit) – If you’re still collecting cash and checks instead of using auto debit then you’re agreeing to be a bill collector.

You’re also wasting valuable time that could be spent marketing, creating new workouts or just recharging.

As your boot camp grows, if you are not using auto-debt, then collecting checks  will be the “bottle neck” preventing you to grow.

Can you imagine trying to keep track of the payment schedule for 50, 75 100 clients?

#5 Run referral contests – People are for the most part competitive and love getting rewarded and recognized for their efforts.

You should have some sort of referral contest each month where the winner gets recognized and rewarded with a month or a year of free boot camp.

And the coolest part is that as your boot camp grows and you get more members, the more clients you’ll get with your referral contests.

#6 Use referral incentives – The best way to get a ton of new referrals is by setting up referral incentive program.  What I find works the best is to give half off next month’s dues for each referral.

#7 Use “referral tools” – I see so many trainers ask for referrals without “arming” their boot campers with referral tools.  Fit body boot camp owners use $100 plastic gift cards as referral tools.  Can you imagine how many referrals you would get if all of your boot campers were handing out dozens of $100 plastic gift cards like hot cakes?

#8 Get other trainers to teach your boot camps – Your primary income is from your boot camp right?  That’s cool, but are you going to teach forever… Like what’s gonna happen when your 40, 50, 60…  Where is your income going to come from?

If you teach your own boot camp then you own a job, and as soon as you stop working your job, your income comes to a screeching halt.

The Fit body Boot Camp model uses the “Phase Out formula” to slowly phase a new trainer into your boot camp as you slowly phase yourself out.

Once you do this, you have a passive stream of income.

As you repeat the process, over time you will end up with multiple boot camp locations taught by other trainers resulting in multiple passive income streams.

Ahhhh, your retirement/freedom plan…

#9 Keep your boot camps tuff, but fun and positive – Just because it’s called “boot camp” doesn’t mean that it should be modeled after the military.

Chances are, your average client will stick with a positive, supportive and high-energy environment versus someone screaming in their face telling them they are lower than a maggot.

Don’t get me wrong, kick your clients butts, just do it more like a trainer and less like a military drill sergeant.

# 10 Know your numbers – If you don’t know how many boot campers you have and exactly how much income you’re making you are 80% less likely to succeed.

One of the most powerful boot camp tools is a white board.

You should have your goals, how many boot campers you have, and your income on your whiteboard for you to look at several times a day.

Just doing this one thing will increase your chance for success by 80%.

# 11 Do charity drives – One of the best ways to get local businesses to promote your boot camp is by doing charity drives.

Find a small local charity (preferably one that helps kids in need)

Tell local businesses that you are raising money to help kids in need by donating $100 to a (insert charity) for each new member you get in the next 30 to 45 days.

Ask then business if they will display your post card ads during the charity drive to help these poor helpless kids.

Now you’re in, and if you play your cards right, they will continue to advertise for you after the charity drive is over.

( And you get to help a bunch of kids who really need it )

#12  Set up a body fat testing table – Get permission from the management of a high traffic shopping center near your boot camp to set up a body fat testing table.

Use the “pound of fat/muscle” prop to get peoples attention.

Use the Omron hand held body fat analyzer to test the prospects body fat.

Show them where they fall on the body fat chart.

Get their name, phone number and email, to enter a contest to win a free month of fitness and a free rapid fat loss report.

#13 Use an authorized indoor location – With boot camps popping up left and right and operating illegally at public parks, cities are really starting to crack down.

And the bigger your boot camp grows, the higher your risk of getting shut down or fined by the city.

So just like Fit Body Boot Camp does, rent space in gymnastics, cheer, dance and karate studios.

Or, since rent is so low right now, lease a light industrial building for less then a buch a square foot and have your own “stand alone” facility.

#14 Open each boot camp location yourself  – A lot of trainers learn the Fit Body Boot Camp business model and figure they can open 5 locations at once with other trainers.

You can definitely have 5, 10 even 20 locations, just do it right by opening each one YOURSELF, then using our “phase in/out formula”, hand it off to another trainer.

#15  Use “elite” human Billboards – Train hair dressers, tanning salon owners, hair salon owners, chiropractors, massage therapists, Mary Kay consultants, and other excellent referral sources for a fraction of your normal rate in return for referrals.

#16 Use daily discount sites - Have you heard of Groupon.com?  They email a special deal at a huge discount to a huge list of local residents ever day.

I personally know Fit Body boot Camp owner and coaching clients who have got as any as ONE THOUSAND NEW CLIENTS from Groupon.com

And the good news is there are a ton of  similar sites popping up everyday.

Here is a list of some that I’ve found.

1. Buywithme.com
2. Dealon.com
3. Dealperk.com
4. Freshguide.com
5. GoGabble.com
6. Groupon.com
7. LADailyDeals.com
8. LivingSocial.com
9. Socialbuy.com
10. Tippr.com
11. Yipit.com
12. Zozi.com

#17 Buy or die – Call and email your prospects continuously until the buy or die.

Sometimes it takes 10 phone calls and 5 emails before a prospect comes in and signs up.

#18 – Use auto responders – use auto responders (automatically generated emails) to get your prospects to buy, you current clients to refer, and your past clients to come back.

#19 Call all of your clients every Sunday – One thing that I did that 99% of other trainers did NOT do was call every single one of my clients every Sunday to leave a “pump up” message for the next week.

Do this and you’ll get more referrals, longer client retention and better results because your client will miss fewer workouts.

#20 Use testimonials – Even if you have a below average website, if you slap a couple dozen before and after pics with testimonials on it, you will get way more clients.

The same goes for your print advertisements.

#21 Use Facebook ads – Pay-per-click advertising on facebook is way less expensive than Google, and you can laser target who your ad is displayed for.

For instance, you can set facebook to only display your ads for moms between the ages of 28 and 48 who live within a 7 mile radius of your boot camp.

When Big Chris called myself and my partners and asked us to make a guest post I jumped at the opportunity…

It also gave us a moment to reflect on how we built the largest Pilates studio in our market and took the same ideas and opened up a fitness bootcamp that has over 100 paid members in less than 3 months.

So how exactly did we get so many fitness training clients so fast?

Well, check this out…

We actually never intended to start a bootcamp…

Not until we noticed the excitement generated by Chris and Bedros Keuilian at our first mastermind meeting last summer.  We ‘d just moved our Pilates studio from a 1200 sq foot space where all our trainers and clients were constantly tripping all over each other to a 3000 (now 4500) square foot studio, so expansion in a down economy wasn’t anything new.

So when we saw the 4500sq ft. loft space available for Crossroads Bootcamp we couldn’t refuse.

The first question we asked ourselves was how we could take the same systems that built our Pilates business to create a profitable bootcamp, and fast and how we could clients as fast as possible.

The Best Kinds of Referral Magnets For Your Fitness Training Business

Fitness Marketing Guest Post by Michael Duivis

Hey whats up guys, this is Michael Duivis and I hope you’re doing awesome in your fitness business.

If you don’t know who I am, well, I’m the guy next to Big Chris, Bedros and Steve in this pic… ( this pic was taken like a year ago, before Chris started working out again and leaning out… lemme tell you, he is ONE BIG DUDEI think I saw five people in about three hours ask him if he played football and two ask him if he was a pro-wrestler… I was worried Chris was gonna eat us )… we were down at the Frank Kern Mass Control event at the Hard Rock in San Diego… what a wild time.

I’m a private coaching client of Chris’s and operate a few Fit Body Boot Camp locations in Southern California.

Now that it’s 2010 you probably know all about Human Billboards and how the whole principle works. ( In case you don’t know what Human Billboard Marketing is, click here to watch a video where Chris explains the whole Human Billboard thing )

However, one thing to bear in mind when ‘hiring’ your Human Billboards is that they are not all created equal…

Two Out-of-the-Box Ways to Get More Fitness Training Clients

Hey there,  it’s Chris… hope you’re doing awesome… I want to let you in on an email I got the other day… it’s by a fitness trainer named David Eagleton and it has some pretty cool ways to get clients… one is very similar to something my friend Steve Hochman does with his Foot Soldier Method but with a few tweaks, and the other is TOTALLY out-of-the-box… enjoy… (it’s been slightly edited for brevity)

Here’s the email from David:

Chris, I just love creative thinking and helping people. Honestly I feel fortunate. When I graduated college I had no clue what I wanted to do so I became a bartender ( I know right a bartender who just blew $120k of mom and dads money on a private business school).

Needless to say they weren’t too happy so I moved to Denver from Boston to “run away”… and I started making some really bad choices in life.

Well over the last 3 years I went from training part time in a corporate gym and doing some things I’m not proud of … to wanting to give up on everything.

I was sick of the corporate world and even more my own life. My best friend dragged me to go to church with him on a Friday night and it changed my life.

Fast forward I have stepped away from the bad decisions I was making and became business partners with this same friend.

We agreed that he would do all the boot camp training and I would handle the marketing and business side ( finally used the skills from a private business college).

I am now happy to say that we have 100 clients paying $180 a month and we split it down the middle. I can’t believe how much my life has changed.

What I did with my friend opened my eyes and made me realize I could grab any trainer from the corporate world and (save their life) by helping them make a ton of money.  I truly believe “he who waters others will himself be watered” -Proverbs 11:25

Ok, check this out Chris, here’s is an idea I woke up with one morning…  I experimented with it and it turned out to be AWESOME!

Here is how you do it…

And after that, I’m off to speak at the Fitness Info Summit, showing about 300 fitness trainers how to build six-figure info marketing businesses and then off to Disney World for a few days with the kids and the Hochmans and the Keuilians.

I’ve pre-loaded the blog with some great posts for the next few weeks ( that’s one of the like thousand things I love about blogging… the ability to pre-load em’ up )

Anyway, here’s some boot camp business building resources and tools for you, some cost money, and man are FREE, and they’re all good…
