7 Tips For Trainers On Client Injuries… and Some Cool Free Gifts

A Fitness Training Guest Post by Rick Kaselj

Eh, it is that Canadian guy again talking about injuries.

I did a blog post for Chris a few days a go.

In the last blog post, I talked about how injuries can lead to moohlah.

Now I am going to give you 7 tips on how to get more injuries which will lead to more moohlah… plus I've included some free gifts for you towards the bottom of this post.

Here we go.

#1 - Have a Step Before the Grinder

Most of us throw our clients into the grinder.

They start training with us or join our bootcamp and we go hard from day one.

But clients with injuries, aches and pains will not make it through the grinder.

They will leave you, have their injury flare up or quit because you don't know what you are doing when it comes to their injury.

This is what you need to do…

Injuries Equal Moolah

A Fitness Training Guest Post by Rick Kaselj

Eh, it is Rick Kaselj here.

I think the Eh, gave it away but I am personal trainer up in Canada (The Great White North).

But don't hold that against me because I have great way of getting more moolah into your jeans.

Before I get to more moolah, let me give you a bit of an idea of who I am.

I am a personal trainer with a passion for helping people. I know you do the same but….

My specialty is injuries.

Yes, injuries!

No am not a physical therapist, doctor or chiropractor and do not play one on TV but on Halloween I dress up as one of them (Just joking.).

You might be going, "InJuRiEs"?

Most people come to fitness professionals due to the pain they have when it comes to weight loss but mine come to me due to the pain of their injuries.

I help clients overcome their injuries so they can get back to doing the things that they love to do. So I help my clients over come the emotional pain of their injuries.

The Multi-Level Boot Camp Strategy

A Fitness Training Guest Post By Chris Lopez

A friend of mine opened a new gym here in Toronto. It's a great spot with a lot of open space, minimal machinery and 3 or 4 power racks.

One of the more prominent pieces of equipment that you'll find at this place are kettlebells.

As I was warming up for my workout yesterday, a trainer running a bootcamp was just finishing up and having his clients go through some "finishing" exercises.

One of the finishers was a 2-arm kettlebell swing, which just happens to be one of my favorite exercises.

Of the 8 campers that were there training with him, 3 of them were "painfully" new at training and/or using kettlebells.

I say "painfully" because you could pick them out by their rounded backs, locked knees and shrugged shoulders.

The other 5 campers, had really great form - exploding from their hips and really keeping their torsos nice and stiff. It was great to see people really do things the right way.

Now you and I both know that kettlebells are one of the most versatile fitness tools available today and it seems like everyone and their brother is using them in their bootcamps.

Bootcamps Are NOT Aerobics Classes Done Outside

A Fitness Training Guest Post By Chris Lopez

A Warning To Personal Trainers: Bootcamps Are NOT

Aerobics Classes Done Outside

I was riding my bike home the other day and passed by one of the bigger parks here in downtown Toronto. Like many parks these days there are always 1 or 2 bootcamps running at the same time.

To tell you the truth, it didn't look like much of a bootcamp. It looked like fluorescent spandex display out of an early 90s infomercial.

The traditional definition of a bootcamp was MILITARY TRAINING.

Joe DeFranco's Documentary Film 'Strong'

A Fitness Marketing and Training Post by Chris McCombs

Hey there, hope you're great

I ordered an awesome movie the other day and I wanted to share with you

It's a documentary about trainer Joe Defranco and his gym, a gym that's more like a tribe…

Joe gives so much of his heart and soul helping people get results… I think it's pure inspiration ( from a business standpoint as well as helping pull up the intensity of your workouts)

Check out these videos about the film and Joe's training… there's also a link to Joe's site below as well as one for the movie ( NOT an affiliate link, just trying to spread the word about something way cool )

You're gonna love this stuff…

Hey there, hope you're doing great.

My friend Jeff "The Muscle Nerd" Anderson just sent me this cool interview ( see below) that I think you'll like where he talks about getting and training clients for the military

Some Cool Videos

Hope you're doing great… here's some super cool and inspiring videos from a few of the coolest sports around… bodybuilding, powerlifting, freestyle motocross and parkour… these videos really get me pumped up and ready to take on the world… so I figured I'd share them with you here.

First, for the Parkour videos, which is defined by Wikipedia as the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one's path by adapting one's movements to the environment

The Unnecessary Evils of The Personal Training Industry

Hey there, hope you're doing awesome. I rarely get upset about things, but today I saw something at the gym that really ticked me off ( even though it happens ALL THE TIME… this particular time is just got to me a bit more than normal)

As many people know, I've been hitting the weights again after a three year lay-off that started with hernia surgery.

Well, anyway, I've been working out a large corporate gym down the street from my house, I won't mention the name of it, but it rhymes with EL-A-FEET-NESS.

As I was pushing my way through a pretty good lower body workout… fives sets of five reps of box squats and five sets of five reps of deadlifts ( grueling workout, but the kind that makes me feel strong from head to toe, and makes me see progress literally every time I do it)… something I saw really got to me.

When I resting between sets I was watching one of the new trainers in the gym train an elderly client.

And what I saw about gave me a panic attack, even though it's common with trainers in a lot of corporate gyms who have no knowledge of proper exercise form…

He was having his client do….

1. Bent-over rows with an Ez-bar… bent wrists, rounded back, locked knees, toes pointed out at 45 degrees.

2. Still-legged deads … toes pointed out at 45 degrees, knees locked, rounded back, reps done SUPER fast

I felt like walking over to the trainer and telling him that if I ever see him training people like that in my town again, he's gonna have to do it with my boot up his a**, as well as telling the client to run like hell, and then finding out whoever in this corporate gym martix was responsible for for allowing such sins to occur among their staff, and then doing very bad things to them.

HOWEVER, since we live in a civilized society, have laws in place to protect idiots like these and because getting through my workout sounded a lot better then spending the night in jail, I quickly got back to my workout and took my frustration out on the iron. ( So I guess something positive came from this, I got a hell of a workout)

Is it the trainers fault?

Nutrition Question

Hey there, I hope the day's treating you as well as you're treating it

I have a quick question about nutrition for you and would LOVE your opinion in the comment section below.

For leaning out while maintaining as much muscle as possible, and without too much suffering, in your opinion what's the best nutritional strategy?

A few things I'm curious about are…

How many calories per day per pound of bodyweight?

What kind of macro nutrient profile is best? ( like what percent carbs, pro, fat?)

Are cheat days or meals ok?

Does everyone have different needs when it comes to nutrition?

As a fitness profession and enthusiast I would LOVE to hear what kind of nutritional program you think is best… keeping in mind… maintaining muscle and not feeling super hungry all the time is EXTREMELY important here.

What Do You Think?

Hey there, I hope you're awesome

I would love your opinion on an exercise question I have… and I'd love to hear your answer in the comment section below.

While trying to lean out WITHOUT losing muscle… what kind of strength training program is best?

I know for cardio HIIT intervals seem to be most effective

But what about strength training? … What kind of strength training workouts do you think are best for maintaining muscle while leaning out?

Here's a few of the options I'm curious about…

Low reps and long rests? ( Powerlifting type workouts)

Or train with moderate reps and rests? ( Typical bodybuilder type training)

Higher reps and short rests trying to keep the heart rate up? ( Kind of like your typical boot camp workout)

… maybe throwing in heart rate training like rope skipping or running stairs between sets?

Or a combination all the above? ( One of the week this type… one day of a week another type… and so on)

Or possible periodizing back and forth between each type? ( Like three weeks of this, then three weeks of that)

Weights? Kettlebells? Bodyweight stuff? A mix?

Or whatever I enjoy… as long as I'm doing it? (Meaning it doesn't matter all that much as long as I'm getting some resistance training in)

Need Advice From Fitness Trainers

Hey there, hope you're great.

You being a fitness trainer, I really value your opinion on a question I have for you regarding my own fitness program.

If you've been following this blog for a while you probably know I've been getting back into shape… here's the original post when I started this journey 3 months ago

Since that post came out here's my stats…

  • Lost 32 pounds body fat
  • Gained 19 pounds muscle ( it's nice being 6'6" with a powerlifting background and good muscle memory)
  • Lost 13 pounds scale weight
  • Started at 327 pounds
  • Now 314 pounds

And I'm pretty strong… not professional powerlifter strong like my bud AJ Roberts…. but in a lot of lifts I'm stronger than most body builders… even competitive ones.

Now, I admit I love being a big dude… I love the fact that 99.99% of rooms I walk in I'm the biggest dude in the room… I like it that I probably only run into 1 or 2 guys bigger than me each year … I realize it's an ego thing, but screw it… I like being big ( I'm not super muscled-up or anything… a lot of the readers on this blog are way more muscular looking than I am or even hope to be… I just look like a big tall football player or something)

Some people like being smart, others like being good looking… I like being big ( and funny)

This may not make me the most evolved person around, but I'm just tellin' it like it is…

I Have a Confession to Make … and I Need Your Input

Hey there it's Chris, hope life is Kicking Ass for you…

I have a confession to make and I'm not exactly 100% sure how to deal with it… and you being a fitness professional might have some good input on the situation… I REALLY value your input as a fitness expert and want to get some ideas from you in a minute…

but…

… first of all, I just got back from Bedros's 7-Figure Mastermind and it was awesome… me, Bedros, Hochman, Vince Delmonte, Craig Ballantyne, Josh Carter, 7-Figure Sam and a small handful of other really high level fitness marketers all sitting around swapping ideas… and Bedros went all out… it truly was a first class event.

When I was there Vinne and Craig ( Vince Delmonte and Craig Ballantyne… two of the most successful fitness gurus in the world and both way cool bros ) convinced me I was doing a disservice to the fitness industry but keeping the doors closed on my Market Annihilator program, they badgered the hell out me and insisted that I MUST open it back up so others in our industry can experience the same kind of success we're all enjoying.

Here's me, Vinnie and Craig on my lap top re-opening the Market Annihilator ( If you're not already on board and you wanna get tons of fitness clients from the internet practically on auto-pilot and make an extra six figures… then here's where you can join )
