How to Hire Article Writers for your Fitness Site

A Fitness Internet Marketing Post by Chris McCombs

Marketing your fitness business or fitness products on the internet comes down to TWO SIMPLE THINGS.

1. Traffic

2. Conversions

One without the other isn't gonna do you much good… you could traffic all day long, but if your offer sucks, well, I doubt you'll make many sales.

And you can have the BEST OFFER IN THE WORLD, but if you don't get any traffic, no one's gonna see it.

One of the best ways to get traffic to your website is having A TON of content on your site… the more content you have, the more there is for Google to crawl and display when someone searches.

Let's face it, you can only put so many keywords on your site if you’ve just got a few pages, but by putting up articles on your site you’re giving Google a lot more material to work with and you can squeeze more keywords onto your site in a natural way.

I like to set 500-1000 pages of content as goal for most fitness sites ( with the exception of squeeze sites and sites that you send paid traffic to directly)

I'm talking about sites that you WANT PEOPLE TO FIND when running searches in Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Three Ways To Sell More Training With Your Fitness Website

A Fitness Internet Marketing Guest Post by Shingo Suzumura

Did you know you only have about 5 to 6 seconds before people decide to leave or stay when they first visit your site?

Some say you only have 2-3 seconds to grab a viewer's interest or they'll never return - it's friggin' harsh, but at the end of the day there will always be a fine line between a sale and no response at all.

Let's say you paid Google $100 to advertise your site. The ad brings 100 people to your site, and 1 person signs up ("1% traffic conversion").

Do you have any idea how to improve it?

Online experts have been putting more and more emphasis on improving traffic conversion rate, but how exactly you make the improvement has not been made clear and a lot of web designers, even those who know the ropes, fail to give a site what is needed to really help your online sales.

As the founder of SZ Creative Solutions and Director of Operations at Fitness Website Formula ( where I work with Chris and Bedros) I have helped hundreds of websites succeed online, and have I found again and again that these simple conversion principles work…

  • Impression - Immediately capture and build up the audience's interest
  • Connection - Create an emotional connection with the audience and make it super easy for them to take action

Here are 3 little ways you can "tweak" your site to get more people to stay and gain more business leads from your site…

Fitness Video Marketing Tips and Tricks

This is a Fitness Marketing Post by Chris McCombs

Hey there, hope you're doing great and I hope your fitness business is killing it these days.

Ya know, video is a great way to dramatically increase conversions on your website, as it allows you to condense your sales message into a short, but powerful mini TV commercial if you will.

And on video, testimonials are MUCH more believable than is just a picture with text.

Also, if you have lots of unique optimized pages on your site, often times your "text based" sales message won't be the greatest on every page… since you probably outsourced most of your entry pages to a lower-end writer.

But you can stick your video into each of these optimized entry pages, and still have a powerful sales massage.

One template I like for sales videos on fitness sites is…

How to Take Advantage of Big Chain Clubs Marketing Efforts

A Fitness Marketing Guest Post by Zach Hunt

I’ve never had very good luck with the law…..or authority for that matter. Not that I don’t respect it, just somehow I gravitate toward getting in trouble, without even trying…

When I was in grade school, I knew the principal on a “how you doing today” basis. Even getting suspended for 3 days for, get this, throwing a Frisbee at a younger kid and it hit him in the head. To this day I plead innocent, but the teachers had it out to get me I don’t know. I got multiple detention sessions and well was even known as a bully to some people….although I really never was a mean person =)

If you remember the blog post, just this last year I was accused as a ramped snow plow shooter in my city. I even went to jail, according to the news, good thing I didn’t know about it. I would have been frightened.

Well just this last month I had another run in with the law, but this time on a national scale…

Fitness Leads on Autopilot

Hey there, hope you're doing awesome… I'm listening to one of my favorite artists right now ( Elliot Smith… R.I.P.)… and I'm slowly getting back into the swing of work after taking about 8 weeks off… been focusing a lot on my family, lifting weights and my spiritual path…

I'm striving to keep things in balance… as I can tend to get a little OCD sometimes and do things with an all or nothing attitude, which is usually great for the one thing I'm focused on, but the others can get out of balance QUICK.

Anyhow, like I said, I'm back to work ( kinda… at least for a few hours a day )… and fortunately during my break our income didn't go down at all… because my businesses are both 95 plus percent on auto-pilot.

Before vacation, I loaded up about 18 blog posts and 20 something email blasts and scheduled them to go out every other day or so, which was nice… took me a few days to set up, but it sure was worth it, cuz the blog got traffic and the products sold the entire time I was away.

And as for the training business, my assistant Del pumped out online classified ads every day, closed sales and Google brought lots of new leads to my training site every single day… so the new clients poured in… that's one of the reasons I love Google

I mean I Friggin LOVE EM'

In fact, Google is one of my BIGGEST streams of new clients…

Fitness Trainer's KILLER Video Blog Post

A Fitness Marketing Post by Chris McCombs

Hey there, hope you're awesome…

Blogging is one of my favorite things in he whole world… and is by far one of my biggest marketing strategies… HOWEVER… if most of your blog posts don't have personality and aren't very fun, then they're not gonna do a whole for your business… but if you can…

  • Add value to your visitors life
  • Entertain them
  • Educate them
  • Bond with them
  • Get them to laugh
  • Tell them interesting stories
  • Make them feel good

Then you'll be on the right track

Now, not ALL of your blog posts need ALL of these elements, but they should be a part of your overall blogging strategy

Craigslist Client Getting Strategy

A Fitness Marketing Post by Chris McCombs

Hey, it's Chris here… here's a quick post about some ways to dominate Craigslist and get tons of clients without spending all day working on it… if you'd like further clarification on this stuff and want access to a step-by-step secret video my assistant Del made, just email her at positivelyfitassistant [at] gmail [dot] com and ask her how you can access the secret video ( there's a small 5 minute catch to accessing the video but it won't cost you a dime… and the video could help you make a lot of money… so… your call)

Before you check out the strategy check out this tweet I just got from Luke Wold…

From Luke Wold - ANOTHER gym charging $4.95/month! and here I am, raising my rates :)

I'm with Luke, lowering your prices is NOT a good way to get ahead… for many years my business has had the highest group training rates of just about anyone in my area… if people percive your service as the one that will get them where they want to go… they'll go with you, and the ones not willing to pay your prices are a HUGE pain in the a** anyway… let the $4.95 a month gym deal with them… NO THANK YOU.

Alright, on to the Craigslist strategy…

Now you'll have to put in some time at the beginning, but once you have it up and running you can pull clients in and only spend a few minutes a day doing it.

  • First, you need to put together some kick ass ads.
  • A good ad needs to have before and after pictures. These are a MUST. If you don't have any right now then drop whatever you are doing and GO GET THEM. Bribe your clients if you have to, but you really need to have before and after pictures for any type of advertising you do, whether it's Craigslist or your website. If you can't get before and after pictures this second…then at least get an after picture or an "in progress" picture that you can caption with something like " I've lost 11 pounds working out with ____."… the more before and after pics the better
  • Cool, now that you have your before and after pictures picked out you're gonna use an image editor (you can get ‘em free online if you search, or you can use a free site like gogopin.com). Get your images in there and add some short and sweet sales copy… the image editor will help make your daily posting process go MUCH quicker… and remember, this may be your only chance to sell ‘em, so make the copy good.
  • Throw in some call-to-action text that says "Call now" or buttons that say "Click here."in the image, you want people to actually click the image and follow it through to your website… so you have to tell them to click

Answers to Your Questions

Hey there… hope you've been enjoyin' all the free videos and blog posts and stuff I've been sending you… the feedback has been amazing. It's really important to me that I give you as much free content as possible to help you build your fitness business.

I built my local fitness training business, which is now the biggest of it's kind in my entire area and probably for hundreds of miles around, by training people for free. You've probably heard how I started it by taking on 30 free "human billboard" clients and my business has been successful ever since. ( Thanks Steve Hochman for sharing your human billboard strategy with me when I meet you like seven years ago bro)

Well, I also started this entire info-marketing business by giving away for free stuff as well, and it continues to work… give people as much value as possible for free… and when you go to sell them something buying from you is a no-brainer… good-willed people WANT to pay you back… it's just the way it is… this strategy has worked for me in every single bit of business success I've had today, so I'm sticking to it… and I trust you'll find a similar result in your own business if you're giving away lot's of value for free.

Alright, now check it out… my customer support team has been friggin floored with the non-stop barrage of questions about the brand new Market Annihilator 2.0 Program for fitness professionals that's opening in just a few days here… so I figured I'd address em' for ya here in a quick post…

First of all, I want to show you this video my very first Market Annihilator member Sam Bahktiar just sent me…

( Oh yeah, and if you haven't entered the contest yet to try and win Market Annihilator 2.0, here's where you can do that, but I'd hurry… cuz I'll be choosing a winner this weekend… probably Saturday or something … here's where you can enter to win - Win Market Annihilator 2.0 )

Getting Your Fitness Training Site to the Top of Google

Hey there… hope you're killing it today and kickin' some serious ass… in this post I'm gonna show you some of the things I do to get my sites to the top of Google.. but first I wanna tell you about something that just happened here at headquarters ( headquarters is actually my house… where myself and my small team work)

For the past week or so I've been putting in a lot of extra hours lately cuz I'm getting ready to open the doors on Market Annihilator 2.0 next week… so I've been working my tail off to get everything ready… ( that's the life of an info-marketer… long periods of short work days… with short periods of long work days… works for me)

My wife Sarah and my assistant Del have also been working their butts off getting ready for this launch… and in all the hustle and bustle Del just accidentally ate a bunch of moldy beef jerky

Not just a little bit… but a TON…

…You see I order beef jerky in bulk…

I order like five big ole' kilo sized bags at a time from some little general store that makes it in the foothills of Tennessee… well one of the bags was moldy and I put it on the counter so Sarah could return it… and Del saw it and started diggin in… which is kind of funny, cuz she does a lot of modeling and I hardly ever see her eat… but she must've been SUPER HUNGRY or something cuz she polished off like a half pound of the stuff… and she TOTALLY overlooked the funkalicious growth it had multiplying all over it by the minute… she friggin' ate a sh*tload of it … I guess she thought the white stuff growing on it was some kind of weird Cajun spice or something… damn.

Check it out, here's my wife Sarah working away on the launch…

Here's the moldy beef jerky that my assistant Del ate… loaded with millions of hallucinogenic lil' mushroom shaped mold spores… see em growing?

And here's Del diggin' in… wondering what this new funky flavor of jerky is… and why she doesn't feel so great after polishing off like a half pound of the stuff…

Classic.

Anyhow… ya know what? … I LOVE Google… I mean I Friggin LOVE EM'… Why?

Ultra Link Building For High-Ranking Websites

Guest Post By Zach Hunt

I really do enjoy websites, they work for you, they don't complain and they don't require anything in return, well after the initial setup that is.

I mean, besides the like $10 a month on hosting fees and $10 a year for domain registration they run on auto-pilot all day long, and even work the weekends for you, that's why I like to make it my PRIMARY marketing medium by far. While I certainly believe it is a good practice to have multiple marketing mediums, paid advertising, mailings, speaking, lead-boxes, etc.

Having a well optimized and well-done website is like a breath of fresh air knowing you'll get a consistent source of new clients without any additional work.

And if you want to really make sure your websites rank high, stay high and rank for a ton of keywords you have to have consistent and quality link building…however, the way most people do it - forum links, commenting on random blogs, and whatever else, that's not gonna get you anywhere, check this out on how I go about link building…

Link building is one of those often misunderstood phenomenon often left to the dust and underutilized.

Take a look at this list on some common link building practices…

How to Sell Multiple Services From Your Website

Guest Post by Justin Goff

This article is a guest post from Justin Goff. Justin runs GymJunkies.com and also does website coaching for personal trainers.

Everyone is familiar with Chris' SocalWorkout site and the great success he has had with it.

But what if you have multiple services to offer and need to send your clients to a site for more information?

A direct response site is tough for this because with a direct response site you are promoting one service or product. In direct response you also want to hide your navigation links, so that users don't click all over the place (you want them to read the copy)

However if you have multiple services to offer, then stashing your navigation links at the bottom isn't going to help you much. If you offer personal training, kickboxing, bootcamps, youth training and other services it's awfully tough to show each of those services to someone through a direct response site.

Of course you can rank for each of them, but what if you need to send someone to your site to check out your kickboxing program and all they can see is a long sales letter about personal training?

Here's my solution…

Fitness Website Conversion Secrets

Hey what's up? … it's Chris here…

Hope everything's going great for you… things have been pretty awesome here… hitting the weights hard and filming the nutty documentary I'm making with Bedros… on top of that, taking care of my coaching clients, hanging out with my family and spending a little time on the ole' Harley (=

If you've been following this blog for a while, you're probably aware that I get all my clients from the internet, in fact I get enough clients from the internet in my local area to keep 15 trainers busy… we literally get new clients just about everyday and it's more than enough new clients for the 15 personal trainers we have training them.

Now, when it comes to getting a ton of new fitness clients from the internet… there's really only two things you need to focus on… traffic and conversions.

It's really that simple… get the traffic and then convert the hell out of it ( sounds like a religious thing but is isn't)

Prioritizing Your Online Fitness Marketing

Wow… this is a crazy time for me… right now Bedros and myself are in the middle of filming our documentary Add To Cart, which exposes some of the crazy subcultures that exist in the world of internet marketing… we're showcasing the info-marketing gurus, the fratire guys like Tucker Max, the pick-up artists, the bloggers, the self-help gurus, the pot growers, the porn industry and a whole bunch or crazy niches and personalities that exist online… some for profit and others cuz they just wanna start their own revolutions.

Now because the making of this film is so time consuming ( but worth every second) I'm forced to bust out a few shorter posts here on the blog and get to the point quicker… cuz honestly I don't have much time right now to go on long winded rants… so while were out on our documentary making adventure, some of my posts might be shorter than normal… like this one…

Ok, recently I created a step-by-step action plan for members of my Market Annihilator program… here's the short and sweet version of it…

3 Ways To Sell Info-Products, Get Training Clients And Crush Your Niche With Twitter

Guest Post by Jimmy Smith

This is a fitness marketing guest post by Jimmy Smith about how to kill it on Twitterwhen I tried to find pics of Jimmy I kept finding pics of this cool looking Jazz dude… so I've included a few here in the post (= … Jimmy is really a white dude… oh, and by the way, if you're a Market Annihilator member there's an in-depth interview I did with Jimmy last week on his evil Twitter tactics

If you were online back in the '96 you know the feeling I have. Excitement, passion, hustle and opportunity, they all described the landscape online back then and they describe it now. The internet was just in its infancy and you could grab domains like howtoloseweight, "advertise" ruthlessly and make cold, hard cash.

It was all there because mainstream hadn't adopted it yet. In bodybuilding circles, a message board with the name of "misc.fitness.weight" was exploding with names that would become "famous" over a decade later for the involvement of drugs in sports but back then the top guys there were able to make a name for themselves, sell products and have opportunities in the industry because it was the best spot on the ‘net. Plus, I'm not talking about the fact that quite possibly the greatest rap album ever, 2pac's All Eyez On Me, was just released.

Now if you're too young to remember it or just didn't pay attention, the point that I'm trying to make is that there are very few times that game changing opportunities are presented right in front of you to change your business and your life. We've been given that chance now with Twitter. Check up, game on.

Even though in less then two weeks Oprah and Aston were able to increase twitter's traffic by 43%, for the most part mainstream is still not on twitter and that's awesome for those of us who get it. I mean just look at any celebrities' page and the majority of the followers are going to be the brown avator. They are people with ZERO interest in being on twitter except to follow their favorite celebrities updates. So we are in a gold rush right now and you can either commit right now to dominate twitter or let it pass you by. As of this writing I am about 263 people shy of hitting the 22k follower mark (I average about 300-400 followers per night), here's big steps I took.

Seriously, this is one of the best interviews covering the basics of how to break into the fitness info-marketing industry I have ever heard.

Rob tells you how to build your fitness empire from the ground up… just like he did.

It's my opinion that info-marketing is about the coolest way around to make a buck and help a ton of people… if you're a personal trainer your workouts might help a few hundred people a year… but if you start packaging your knowledge and selling it in the form of info products you can help tens of thousands of people or even more.

The Lazy (And Smart) Trainer's Way To Local Auto-Domination

I always enjoy looking at my website stats.

Not only does it motivate ya to work harder (assuming your traffic / conversions are going up), but it often provides for some pretty good entertainment. If you look carefully you can often find some very interesting (and bizarre) facts about people, the searches they do, and what you can do to go on auto-domination.

Just the other day I was looking at my Google Analytics and Wordpress Stats, what I found was a little bit strange….

I must warn you there are "flying monkeys" involved, and this may get a bit strange and even a little funky.

It's obious that you should rank for keywords like:

  • (local city) personal trainer
  • (local city) fitness
  • (local city) weight loss
  • And so on with about 37 other keywords relating to fitness

But once you're #1 and such for those keywords, where do you go from there?

Advertising a Personal Training Business or Fitness Boot Camp On The Internet

Eight years I just got sober off of a buffet of heavy narcotics, negative thinking and bad decisions. The year was 2000, and at the time I didn't even have the balls at the time to walk into a Target or some other minimum wage job and ask for an application… the thought TOTALLY freaked me out.

My opinion of my self was pretty low, plus my rap sheet didn't help… kinda hard to walk into a place and say "I'm a convicted felon and I haven't worked in years but I know I can bring a lot to the table"… trust me, it sucks…

Fast forward just a few years and I own a personal training business that does a high six figures a year, have 15 trainers working for me and the business takes less than an hour a day of my time, A LOT less actually.

On top of that I have more $200 an hour coaching clients than I can handle and an online internet marketing curriculum ( Market Annihilator ) that does extremely well… in fact it sold out in six days.

Funny thing is, I ain't the brightest cat in the world… yet my businesses continue to grow and thrive, even in what some people would call a temperamental economy.

The key to building my personal training business ( as well as my other businesses) has been advertising on the internet. While it's true, many types of online advertising don't work (even though the annoying solicitors who call my business everyday SWEAR that their product or service is the best and gets amazing results… LIARS), there are a few things online that work continue to work for me on a consistent basis… and those few things can make you financially successful very quickly.

One was relationships - the fact that Ryan Lee, Pat Rigsby, Jim Labadie and Bedros Keuilian all promoted it for me didn't hurt.

Those guys have all been in the fitness marketing business a long time and have email lists WAY bigger than mine

So that was huge…

But there was something that was key to building the relationships with these guys… and that was …

How I Got 8039 Visitors To My Blog Yesterday…

chicks6.jpg

I tested out a new blog posting formula I've been working on and it worked out KILLER

Basically I put together a little formula called the 'Ultimate Blog Post' and then I fused that with what one of good friends Clay Collins ( who is one of the top bloggers and Social Networking Evil Geniuses around) calls 'Social Media Sex Appeal'

Clay doesn't even know I did this post yet and I know he's never really shared that information with anyone… so when he sees this post he might ask me to take it down… we'll see… he's super cool so hopefully he won't but you never know.

So basically I wrote post following this formula and in one 24 hour period I got 8039 visitors to my blog

…plus lots of opt-ins, a low bounce rate, high page views and a high "time on site"

What's really cool about this post is that it's the quickest post I ever wrote… it took about half an hour to actually write it and I think did it watching an episode of "The Office" ( I love that show)

8039 Visitors… and…

How to Use StubleUpon and Blogging to Build Your Fitness Business

clay-collins.jpgOne of the coolest and most interesting cats I've hung out with recently is a guy by the name of Clay Collins. Clay is a well known blogger and a professional "Day Job Killer"

But I want to warn you about Clay before you listen to the interview. You see Clay has EVIL POWERS… let me explain…

When I first met Clay, it was at one of these huge Internet marketing conferences that I've been known to frequent from time to time. And me and Clay hit it off right away. Well, one night when we we're out getting a bite to eat with a couple of other Internet marketing die-hards Clay says something to me that I'll never forget…

He says to me "Do you want a lot of free traffic fast? If ya do man… just let me know, I can get you TONS of traffic and I can do with just the few clicks of a button… it's what I do"

Now I'm pretty good at getting targeted traffic to my sites, but let's just say Clay's offer sounded tempting. So I said to Clay "I'm game, what do you need me to do?"

And Clay says "Just write a really good blog post and…

Social Media Fitness Marketing on Twitter

scott_tousignant.jpgRecently I had a chance to grill Fitness Anti-Guru Scott Tousignant on some of his cutting edge social media marketing techniques.

Scott is known as The Fit Bastard and has created a persona in the fitness industry that helps him get massive amounts of attention, build long term relationships with his customers and separates him from all the other fitness gurus out there.

Persona building is huge and very few people in our industry understand this. If you do it correctly, you'll make a mark that'll become legendary… and oh yeah… you'll put a hell of a lotta money into your pocket as well.

Scott is also one of the rare fitness entrepreneurs who really understands how to market a fitness business on the Internet while at the same time adding massive value to the web.

If you want your fitness business to flourish on the web these days you're definitely gonna wanna listen to what Scott has to say, because the internet is changing dramatically and if you don't stay ahead of the curve there's a good chance your business is going to fail.

Jonathan Fields on Life, Business, Marketing, Time Management and Blogging

jonathan_fields.jpgRecently I had a chance to interview a guy I feel is by far one of the best bloggers on the web. His name is Jonathan Fields and he is definitely one of the most interesting entrepreneurs you're ever gonna meet… the guy's a true renegade who lives by his own rules and values…

One of the cool things about Jonathan is his story. He went from being a high powered hedge-fund lawyer to a $12-an-hour personal trainer to the owner of an amazingly-successful fitness studio to the owner of one of the top Yoga studios and Yoga schools in the country to a pro-blogger and now has a book coming out called 'Career Renegade'... whew… that was a mouthful… and that list doesn't even come close to everything he does.

Jonathan is also a fitness junkie, a serial entrepreneur, a hired copywriter and consultant and the proud father of a six year old girl named Jesse.

His blog Awake @ The Wheel is very well known on the web and…

How To Get Good Search Engine Rankings for Your Personal Training Website

G_personal_trainer.jpgA lot of trainers these days ask me how to get their sites higher in the search engines.. and it's for a good damned reason. Today, when most people look for a service like a personal training business or a boot camp, they look online.

Sure, some of the older generations still use the Yellow Pages and there is a certain percent of the population who will ask their friends and go through that route via referrals. However, the majority of people will look on the Internet and at this point in time usually it 's Google.

I get the question constantly, "how do I get my site to rank higher in Google. Is it the meta tags?"

My answer to that is NO. Google is mostly an off-page search engine. Meaning it is not so much what is on your page that is going to help you rank high in Google. The meta tags, specifically the meta description and the meta key words, won't really help your site rank higher.

Hover Ad Strategy

Recently I grilled a few direct response and fitness marketing experts about opt-in strategies for different personal training sites. I wanted to address the concern over the possibility of a hover ad annoying a lot of visitors and driving them away from a site.

So as usual, one of my favorite guys to grill is Michel Fortin. I asked Michel if he were a personal trainer or fitness professional and had a high priced service if he would implement a hover ad.

Here's what Michel said:

"Yes.

Creating Opt-ins For Your Fitness Site…

Recently I was grilling famous copywriter Michel Fortin about creating fitness site opt-ins. Michel is one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to internet marketing and direct response marketing.

I was talking to Michel about marketing a personal training business and telling him that since I have sites that rank well in the SERPS and don't want to mess with sticking an opt-in on the home page for fear of confusing people, I would ad other squeeze pages to collect peoples name and emails so I could put them on a drip campaign.

Here's what Michel told me:

"I think that, if you’re not going to use a forced opt-in process (before the salesletter), then you need several landing pages, with different marketing strategies catering to each one of those pages.

Facebook, Craigslist and Blog Comment Linkbuilding Mistakes

facebook.jpg

Building links is one of the best strategies at this time for increasing your rankings in the search engines, especially if those are high-quality, relevant links and you're adding value to the web. And if you're gonna market a personal training business or a health club, you gotto get hip to search engine marketing.

One mistake I see a lot of fitness professionals make is that they'll add a bunch of spammy links on Craigslist, Facebook, and by commenting on other people's blogs.

Now, if these links are to help you drive traffic and add value to the internet and add value to the user, then these are good links. But, the mistake I see is that a lot of fitness professionals are just blasting these links out there to try to help them in the search engines, when this doesn't help them one damn bit. And many of these links not only don't improve the visitors experience they do a disservice to the user.

For example I'll see a health club or personal trainer marketing on Craigslist with a bunch of keyword rich anchor text links thinking this will help them rank better for those terms in Google.

Three Surefire Ways to Dramatically Increase Your Website Conversions

Today just about every fitness business owner has a website, as they should. But let me ask you…

What's the purpose of your website?

I hope you didn't answer with something like "To get my name out there" or "To sell supplements, get people to call my business, sell e-books, sell affiliate products AND to get my name out there"

The sad fact is that most fitness, health club and personal training business owners go about their website all wrong. They're trying to do WAY too many things and their sites are all over the place. They're trying to be all things to all people. There's way too many links to click, way too many things they're trying to sell, and just way too many damn things going on at the same time. This not only creates a weak message but it confuses the hell out of the visitor, and a confused visitor doesn't respond, they retreat and go to your competitors site.

Quick and Easy Testimonial Video Marketing

One of the best personal trainer marketing and health club marketing strategies and one THE BEST ways to bring in loads of new clients is through the effective use of testimonials. What someone else says about you or your product or service is always many more times more powerful than what you have to say. I mean come on, you're the business owner, of course you're going to tell me that your service is the best, I'll be a new person after using it and your s#%! don't stink and never will.

But I know you're the business owner and will probably tell me anything to get me to hand over my hard earned cash. You'll tell me know that I'll lose all my fat, my back will feel great, I'll be able to take on any gang of thugs I meet in a dark alley, I will soon be rich and successful and that my sex life will be one that will go down in history and be envied by rock stars and drugged out 25 year old movie stars across the globe.

How to Avoid Abandoned Shopping Carts

shoppingCart.jpg If your local health, wellness or fitness website has a retail aspect to it you know how frustrating an abandoned shopping cart is. It is nothing but a pile of lost money. Here are a few great strategies to encourage your customers to get through your forms and make that purchase.

1. Ask for a little information as possible

Your customers think just like you. Their time is valuable, so they don’t want to waste it filling out little boxes indicating their age, gender, and favorite flavor of ice cream. Sure, from a marketing perspective it would be nice to have all of this info. But if you want your customer to reach the “confirm” button, you are going to have to keep it short.

2. Clearly Indicate which fields are required

A sad number of retail sites don’t provide this basic information. If your potential customer is trying to enter their information, but it’s not going through because they didn’t enter their zip code, they should be informed of this as clearly as possible on the page. If this info isn’t provided, they might just think your site is buggy and choose to move on.

The Four Elements of Valuable Content

By Guest Author Logan Strain

Typingape.jpgI know you’ve already heard this one a million times, but one of the essential keys to building a high traffic website is valuable content. Unfortunately, usually the people who explain this to you don’t take the time to explain what “valuable” means. So for your benefit, here are the four things that make content truly valuable

1. Original

When I say your content for your fitness marketing efforts should be “original,” I don’t just mean original in the sense of SEO, through that is important too. Your content should offer your readers something they may not be able to get elsewhere. Ask yourself: why would somebody come here for this information instead of somewhere else?

2. Written for Humans, not Algorithms

If you want bring traffic, you shouldn’t ignore SEO, but you shouldn’t forget your potential human readers. A lot of people, when they get really educated about SEO, spend all their time fretting about very specific keyword density and other technical details. While writing your content, you should pretend that it will be published in a magazine, or some other place where SEO isn’t a factor. Only after you are done should you glance over it to make a few SEO adjustments.

How To Use Myspace to Market Your Health and Fitness Business

myspace.jpgHere's a Myspace strategy that works extremely well and can get you many new clients for your personal fitness training business.

Now, you're going to want to outsource this to somebody else, because this can be time-consuming, and the last thing you want to do if you're trying to move yourMyspace_distraction.jpg business forward is be spending your time on Myspace.

And beware, there are many distractions on Myspace and many temptations to lure you away from the job at hand. So definitely outsource this. The last thing you need to be doing is cruising profiles of the opposite sex, and if you're a guy, just know that many of those profiles that you think are of some attractive member of the opposite sex was really just made by some guy trying to drive you to his porn sites. You've been warned…

What you want to do is create a profile that is more personality-based than business-based. So if you're a chiropractor, you don't want your profile picture and name to be a picture and name of your business so much, go more for your headshot and maybe Dr. So-and-so, something along those lines, so it's more of a personality based.

And then what you're going to do is add friends in your geographical area, anywhere from 10 to 25 miles around your business focusing on the your ideal customer profile when it comes to thing like age, sex, career and so on…so make sure to include those things

Seven Tips For Marketing Your Health and Fitness Business on Craigslist

craiglist.pngHere are a few quick tips regarding how to use Craigslist to really boost the amount of prospects who are flown into your funnel for your personal training business:

1. Outsource the posting of Craigslist to someone else. Have this person systematically do your posts on a set schedule and send you an e-mail receipt of the post. Not sure the current rules on this but I'm sure there's a loophole.

2. Have a document of six weeks of posts for the person who you have outsourced these posts to use. When they get through the six weeks, have them start over at week one. Consistency is the key. Never go above the allowed amount of posts in a given period. Max a out whatever you're currently allowed though.

Scott White on Fitness Internet Marketing and SEO

Scott White.jpgThis interview is from December of 2006, keep in mind SEO and Internet Marketing is always changing so validate any of these techniques before using them.

Chris McCombs (CM): I’m here with Scott White. Scott, who are you and what do you do?

Scott White (SW): My name is Scott White. I have a personal training business in Arizona, as well as a search engine optimization company. And I basically optimize people’s websites to rank in the top of Google, Yahoo!, and the standard search engines. So, basically, that means when somebody types in a certain phrase like, for example, “personal trainer Arizona,” or “personal trainer Scottsdale” - because people search for specific cities and specific stuff because that’s what they’re looking for - I’ll have a website, or I’ll optimize somebody’s website so it will rank for that specific term in the top of Google. Because people only click on the top few in Google. If you’re on page 54, you know, you’re most likely not going to get looked at.

CM: Now, is that the answer to number one, or should I go to one or two?

SW: That was also an answer for number one.

CM: Okay, perfect. What’s the difference between SEO and SEM?

SW: SEO is “search engine optimization.” SEM is “search engine marketing.” So, for example, they’re pretty closely related but search engine optimization is basically having your website ranked in the search engines. And so, on Google, Yahoo!, MSN - and the reason I only talk about those three, those are your big players. Those are the people that really matter. Lycos and Ask, they are search engines but they also, they’re based off of Google, Yahoo!, and MSN so primarily everyone uses Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. So those are the three I really only talk about. And it’s - the search engine optimization - is having that website ranked specifically at the top of Google. I mean, you can optimize it, but you want to be at the top.

Allen Hill on Health and Fitness Internet Marketing

allen hill.jpgHere's a fitness business and personal training internet marketing interview I did with one of the top people in the health and fitness marketing industry Allen Hill

Chris McCombs: All right, I’m here with Allen Hill. Allen, how are you doing?

Allen Hill: I’m doing very good. How are you?

CM: I am excellent. Allen, can you tell us a little bit about what you do?

AH: Yeah. I build websites for marketing for personal trainers, fitness professionals, and health club marketing campaigns, and they’re not just typical websites. I build them as a direct response kind of marketing material. That way, I can help you generate more leads for your offline business, and more sales for either your offline business, your services, boot camps, or even information products that you might have to sell on your site. I handle anything from custom designing websites and setting up shopping carts and payment processing, to search engine optimization, search engine positioning, building as much traffic as humanly possible, all the way to writing sales copy.

Tips on Creating Good Fitness Websites

Want to expand the reach of your business? If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to market your personal training business to more people, then having your own website will definitely be a must. More and more people nowadays are relying on the internet for information, and having your fitness website means you reach these people who wouldn’t normally pick up a phonebook to look you up.

So I’ll give you some examples of good fitness websites – or at least the elements in good fitness websites that I think your website needs to have.

First off, you need to have a well-designed website. By this, I do not necessarily mean a cool looking website with flashy graphics and the works. What I mean is that you need a website that’s both functional and pleasing to the eye.

When coming up with your site’s design, you need it to look professional. No garish graphics, and make sure your pictures help tell your business’ story. Don’t make it look as if you grabbed the design from some template and decided it to use it.

Advertising a Fitness Product To Get Sales

An Advertising a Fitness Product Guest Post by J. Brown

So you've created a product and put tons of time into perfecting it and making it exactly how you want it to be. You've invested so much into this product and obviously don't want to waste time marketing it in a way that won't work. When advertising a fitness product you want to think about who you want to reach with this product and what those people are looking for.

Yes, you want to reach as many people as possible when advertising a fitness product, but you don't want to spend your hard earned money marketing to people who ultimately will have no interest in your product, or who are somewhat interested but not enough to motivate them to buy the product. First sit down and figure out who your market is based on who is most likely to purchase your product. Think of what your product offers, what it costs, and where it can be used most effectively so you can narrow down your target market and you'll have better luck advertising a fitness product.

Improve Your Fitness WebSite's Google Search Rankings

Guest Post by John "Fitness Business" Thomson

Improve Your Fitness WebSite's Google Search Rankings

It's just a simple fact that no matter how good your health club business is, if you aren't pouring a lot of energy into increasing your visibility online, you will lose on a ton of potential customers. Twentieth century marketing techniques just won't cut it in a twenty first century world, and the day that people find their local health clubs through the phone book or even traditional flyers will soon go the way of the dodo.
