How to Boost Email Conversion Rates

chkgun.jpgI LOVE IT when one simple thing makes me a whole bunch more money. I was at a comedy club this weekend seeing a friggin’ hilarious comedian with my buddy Bedros and as always, me and Bedros are talking marketing ( our wives are used to it by now )

One of the things we were talking about is how just one little tweak can make HUGE impact on your business.

Well here’s one simple thing that has totally helped me boost email conversions and make me a lot more money…

Instead of writing a long email newsletter type of email I put that effort and energy into to writing a quality blog post.

So now the content is on my blog which will help me in the search engines AND it’ll be archived forever for future visitors.

Then what I do is just write a 1 – 3 sentence email teaser driving people to the post.

I first saw Michel Fortin doing this about a year ago and I tested it and it’s been working killer for me for some time now. Rarely ( with the exception of a few of the emails in my launch sequence ) will I send out long emails… they’re typically pretty short… and there’s a simple reason for this…

The short ones are getting a much higher click through rate… plus… like I said, it has the added value of allowing me to focus that time/energy on my blog instead of an email, which is a SUPER important to me, since my blog is one of my top marketing strategies.

You’ll also notice a lot of the big Internet marketing gurus doing it these days.

When someone promotes something, like an affiliate product, you’ll see emails that just say:

"Hey, go get this, I stand behind it all the way"

With a link, THAT’S IT!!!

The reason is because so many of us have total A.D.D and agitation for our inbox’s that the last thing we wanna do is read some big ole’ long email. I’ll be honest here, I can’t f*ckin’ stand email… as a matter of fact I’m considering giving it up all together. The whole time I’m in my inbox I’m agitated and rushed so I can get through my inbox and out of "reactive" mode and get on with some more important things.

Some days I get over a hundred emails and purposely have to delete 10x as many as I answer, because otherwise I’d never get anything else done. And trust me, a lot of people feel the exact same way I do about emails. And THAT’S why the short email strategy works so well.

Test it for yourself, I think you’ll be happy with the results… I know I am.

Now, enjoy this picture of this chick with a gun and try not to get too excited…

Examples of Good Fitness Blogs

STEAL THESE BLOGS… or at least steal some good ideas from them on how to do your own blog…

chkban.jpgWow, the launch I just did for my Market Annihilator Program was insane. Sold out all 150 slots in less than a week… not bad for a $2,000.00 product in a niche that’s used to $37 products.

A few things we’re a paramount part of the process.

One was relationships – the fact that Ryan Lee, Pat Rigsby, Jim Labadie and Bedros Keuilian all promoted it for me didn’t hurt.

Those guys have all been in the fitness marketing business a long time and have email lists WAY bigger than mine

So that was huge…

But there was something that was key to building the relationships with these guys… and that was this very blog you’re reading right now.

This blog helped me not only build my own email list but also caught the eye of the gurus I mentioned above and was a key factor in starting the relationships I now have with all those dudes.

Blogging is huge, it can help with…

  • Creating relationships with industry experts
  • Building a feeling of reciprocity in your audience
  • Bonding with your audience
  • Staying in touch with your audience
  • Getting found in the search engines
  • Building a list
  • And a whole bunch of other cool stuff

Here are some fitness industry blogs that I think kick a** and you guys should definitely keep your eye on and get some great ideas from. Some are new and not so popular, and others have been around awhile.

The Nate Green Experience – First of all, Nate is the man. He just released his first book Built For Show, is a contributor to T-nation as well as other popular fitness mags and is about to friggin’ explode.

He’s like a young mix of David DeAngelo meets Alywn Cosgrove meets Timothy Ferris. ( PickUp meets Fitness meets Lifestyle Design)

I just got off the phone with Nate and will most likely set up an interview with him for you guys in the near future. He understands his market with insane precision and has created a brand for himself based on what his audience really wants in life.

nate.jpg

Zach Even-Esh – Zach knows his market. Big dudes who like to pick up heavy sh*t. Zach is one of the coolest and funniest dudes in our industry and his personality really comes though in his posts.

Unstoppable Fat Loss – Scott Tousignants blog is loaded with killer and fun fitness content. Scott really bonds with his audience and does a helluva job branding himself

Womens Diet and Fitness – Angie Schumacher really knows her audience and does a great job of delivering high quality content, bonding with her readers and networking like a maniac.

Justin Goff – Justins blog is pretty new and it’s a fitness marketing blog similar to mine. I really like what Justin has to say and the guy knows his stuff so I brought him on as a contributor to my Market Annihilator Program

Super Trainer – Great blog for personal trainers. Very fun to read and informative. Kaiser has his own style and I like it.

And if you haven’t done so already, be sure to opt-in for my free Kick Back Life Fitness Marketing updates… I’ll also send you a link to a secret video that shows how you can make a lot more money and work a lot less hours from using little known underground Internet marketing tactics.

I'm Tripping Out On This

Copy of kickbacklife_caricature2.jpgI just posted this in a private forum I belong to, but thought I’d share it with you guys as well…

From 1985 to 2000 I was hooked on a bunch of drugs

Sobered up 8 years ago tomorrow

In 2001, 2002 and 2003 I worked jobs I HATED and made about 10k – 12k a year – I worked in like warehouses and stuff… UGH!!!

A few years ago I knew NOTHING about the internet

I have total ADD for technical stuff

My first email account was about 4 years ago

Now this is where it gets cool…

Today –

- I have a local personal training business and I get every single client online. I have 15 personal trainers doing ALL the training and the business takes less than an hour a day on my end and about an hour a day for my assistant. It earns me a nice six-figure income and it’s from the internet

- As of this writing this blog has a three month Alexa of 103k and often times gets days below 50k or 60k – My highest traffic day to the blog was 8039 people – all from free sources. In the blog I basically talk a bunch of smack, tell funny stories, share some Internet marketing secrets and have a good time. I get a ton of $197 per hour consulting clients from this blog alone

- Two days ago I launched my first membership site http://www.marketannihilator.com/  – It did $50,000 in two days. Much of it is in $197 per month recurring memberships.

In each of the last two days I made more income than I did than I did in either the entire year of 2001, 2002 or 2003… when I had full-time jobs I couldn’t stand.

That’s more in one day than I made all year a few years ago

Sarah_abby_pool.jpgAnd today I love what I do

I have an amazing and supportive beautiful wife

I have a one year old daughter and a two year old daughter – they’re the best

I ride a 2008 Harley Davdson ( wanted one since I was a little kid)

I have OCD

Today, instead of being obsessed with dope, smuggling weed and a bunch or other negative stuff… I’m obsessed with Internet Marketing ( or let’s call it passionate)

I’m hooked on Stompernet, Eben Pagans stuff, Frank Kerns stuff, Dan Kennedys stuff and John Carltons stuff

Today I have AMAZING friends in my life… most are total ADD/OCD Internet Marketers like myself

Today I still buy the new Metallica album, just like I bought "Kill Em’ All" back in 83′ ( still think they dropped the ball after "And Justice For All…", which frigging rocked by the way)

Met.jpg

My favorite movies are still Shawshank Redemption, GoodFellas, Heat, Fight Club, Good Will Hunting, Boogie Nights and Pulp Fiction

I still can’t stand to work for anyone but myself

Refuse to wear a suit more than one day out of a thousand

Still cuss a lot (Just not around my daughters)

bn.jpg

Today, life is pretty damn good

Having a jacked up past makes ya appreciate the little things… like having a house and a car (=

Lot’s of people would tell me I’m out of my mind to admit all that stuff about my past… but I’d rather admit it and have someone wrote me off because of it than be fake and feel like I’m hiding something.

If someone doesn’t wanna do business with me cuz’ of that stuff… screw em… they ain’t my target audience… there’s plenty of suit-and-tie wearing "been perfect all their life" gurus for them to go to.

Also, not sure if you knew this…

There’s a marketing tactic called "making a damaging admission".. when you admit something most people would hide, people automatically trust you more… cuz they think "hell, if he’ll admit that, he’s gotta be trustworthy"

And, ya know what’s crazy… I know a handful of multi-millionaires who were either homeless at one point or in prison or both

The serial killer, bumb, heroin addict, Olympic athlete, and multi-millionaire all have that same personality… it’s just where they focus it

When you take a passionate person who was focused on negative things and then re-direct that focus to something positive they are friggin’ UNSTOPPABLE

Life is rockin’ like a friggin’ Pantera album

I’m totally trippin’ right now

How I Got 8039 Visitors To My Blog Yesterday…

chicks6.jpg

I tested out a new blog posting formula I’ve been working on and it worked out KILLER

Basically I put together a little formula called the ‘Ultimate Blog Post’ and then I fused that with what one of good friends Clay Collins ( who is one of the top bloggers and Social Networking Evil Geniuses around) calls ‘Social Media Sex Appeal’

Clay doesn’t even know I did this post yet and I know he’s never really shared that information with anyone… so when he sees this post he might ask me to take it down… we’ll see… he’s super cool so hopefully he won’t… but you never know….

So basically I wrote the post following this formula and in one 24 hour period I got 8039 visitors to my blog

…plus lots of opt-ins, a low bounce rate, high page views and a high "time on site"

What’s really cool about this post is that it’s the quickest post I ever wrote… it took about half an hour to actually write it and I think did it watching an episode of "The Office" ( I love that show)

8039 Visitors… and…

It’s Totally FREE Traffic

Here’s the post

41 Ways To Be Lifestyle Design Bad-Ass

(By the way, here’s another post that meets the same criteria as the post above I’m talking about. Now this one took 3 hours to write plus two more to format and edit and didn’t get as much traffic as the "lifestyle design bad-ass" post yet it still did pretty good and got me TONS of visitors and opt-ins. It follows my exact same blogging formula.)

And here’s that post…

7 Things Pick Up Artists and Savvy Marketers Have in Common

A few pieces of the puzzle of my Ultimate Blog Post Formula are…

-Controversy

-Character

-Numbered title with a cool hook

-A list ( 41 ways to… )

-Getting it out in the social media sites and networks

- Cool pics

- Formatted for easy readability

- Humor

-Social media sex appeal…

Sex Appeal?

bfly.jpgThe social media "sex appeal" factor of the post was HUGE, and it actually has NOTHING to do with sexual at all.

What I mean is that it’s something the social media world is fascinated with ( Lifestyle Design ), yet how to obtain that is still a mystery to most of em’

They’re fascinated with this whole four hour work week idea while they work all day at there crummy job with NO FRIGGIN’ IDEA how to make it happen… but the idea to them is fascinating…

Kinda of like when a nerdy dude looks at a super hot chick… he checks her out and fascinates about having her even though deep inside they have no friggin’ idea how to obtain her… to those dudes it’s a total friggin’ mystery

It’s the same exact thing…

Plus, the post is fun, edgy and easy on the eye… YOU WANT TO LOOK AT IT and you actually become emotionally involved in the possibilities.

THAT is what I mean by Social Media Sex Appeal

Even though the post had NOTHING to with sex or pictures of purdy gurls.

I’m Dead Serious About This…

Wanna succeed online? Then blog… cuz’…

…If you’re an entrepreneur who wants to make a lot of money on the Internet yet isn’t systematically dedicating some time each week to make your blog the best blog in the world… you’re missing out.

This stuff is sooooooo easy if you just remember to make it fun, be different and give as much value to your visitor as possible

Always be thinking "How can I add value to the web and do it in a way that makes it fun for people?"

I’ve found that one of the best ways is to give away TONS of in-depth, fun and killer content.

That’s what blogging is all about

It’ about bonding with your market, and giving away better stuff for free than most people charge for… without turning it into one big ole’ pitch fest.

A HUGE mistake I see almost everyone make when they start a blog is that they constantly pitch their stuff. I say keep the content to pitch ratio like 20 to 1

But get this…

… this blog actually pays me in many ways… even though the content is free…

…Here’s how…

bfly2.jpg1. I get a tons of consulting clients from it

2. I make some affiliate sales ( not a ton, cuz I don’t really push them… but it does plop some nice extra coin into my bank account every month)

3. Because of this blog, I’ve had many top experts in our industry approach me for all kinds of stuff. Some of my closest friends now are other hardcore Internet marketers and fitness gurus who found me through my blog.

4. It’s building one helluva list

5. It establishes me as an authority in my niche

6. It builds some "law of reciprocity" momentum and creates an army of hundreds or even thousands of people who want to help Chris

7. It is sooooo fulfilling – I honestly think besides being Chris Hansen busting pedophiles on Dateline NBC that being a blogger is the coolest most fun and rewarding gig around

8. Plus, whatever you put out comes back to you, so if you put out a lot of good stuff without expecting something in return… life will totally hook you up. Call it Karma or call it whatever you want… it works

9. It helps me bond with my market

10. It helps me to better understand my market and get feedback from you on what’s really important so I can create products and services based around what you really want ( rather than what I think you want )… this is key to selling a lot of stuff and making a lot of money, especially from a big picture scheme of things

11. Because of this blog I can contact almost anyone in our industry and many other industries and immediately get their attention through the authority and popularity that blog has given me

chicks2.jpg

Ya know what, even if this blog didn’t pay me I’d probably still do it cuz it’s so damn fun ;)

Until next time…

How to Use StubleUpon and Blogging to Build Your Fitness Business

clay-collins.jpgOne of the coolest and most interesting cats I’ve hung out with recently is a guy by the name of Clay Collins. Clay is a well known blogger and a professional “Day Job Killer”

But I want to warn you about Clay before you listen to the interview. You see Clay has EVIL POWERS… let me explain…

When I first met Clay, it was at one of these huge Internet marketing conferences that I’ve been known to frequent from time to time. And me and Clay hit it off right away. Well, one night when we we’re out getting a bite to eat with a couple of other Internet marketing die-hards Clay says something to me that I’ll never forget…

He says to me “Do you want a lot of free traffic fast? If ya do man… just let me know, I can get you TONS of traffic and I can do with just the few clicks of a button… it’s what I do”

Now I’m pretty good at getting targeted traffic to my sites, but let’s just say Clay’s offer sounded tempting. So I said to Clay “I’m game, what do you need me to do?”

And Clay says “Just write a really good blog post and send me the link”

So here’s what I did…

When I got home from the Internet marketing conference I whipped up a KILLER blog post and forwarded it to Clay. The next day when I checked my analytics I was f**king stunned

That day I received almost 15X my normal traffic volume. And what was really great about was that the traffic had a super low bounce rate and a pretty good opt-in rate for my free report.

In fact, CLAY CRASHED MY SERVER. I had to get a new dedicated server because my current one couldn’t handle all the traffic Clay was sending me. And what’s really crazy is it only took about 90 seconds of effort on Clays part to get me all that traffic.

The guy truly is evil… he’s also an Internet marketing genius, a blogging bad-a** and social media rock-star… just without the cheesy music, heroin addiction and inflated ego.

Since then I’ve actually hung out with Clay on a number of occasions and the guy continues to blow my mind every time I see him. ( And the traffic from the few clicks of a button on Clays part continues to roll in. )

Clay understands how to get TONS of targeted traffic from social media sites better than anyone I know. He also knows how to write one helluva blog post… it’s no wonder Clays blog “The Growing Life” is so popular and has achieved a PR5 and a mid 80k Alexa ranking within four months of starting.

In this in-depth interview with Clay, I get him to spill his guts on…

  • How to be a bad-a** blogger who gets tons of traffic
  • How to get a flood of traffic from social media sites like StumbleUpon
  • How to design your ideal lifestyle

You’ll definitely want to check this one out, just push the play button and make sure your volume is turned up

Social Media Fitness Marketing on Twitter

scott_tousignant.jpgRecently I had a chance to grill Fitness Anti-Guru Scott Tousignant on some of his cutting edge social media marketing techniques.

Scott is known as The Fit Bastard and has created a persona in the fitness industry that helps him get massive amounts of attention, build long term relationships with his customers and separates him from all the other fitness gurus out there.

Persona building is huge and very few people in our industry understand this. If you do it correctly, you’ll make a mark that’ll become legendary… and oh yeah… you’ll put a hell of a lotta money into your pocket as well.

Scott is also one of the rare fitness entrepreneurs who really understands how to market a fitness business on the Internet while at the same time adding massive value to the web.

If you want your fitness business to flourish on the web these days you’re definitely gonna wanna listen to what Scott has to say, because the internet is changing dramatically and if you don’t stay ahead of the curve there’s a good chance your business is going to fail.

Jonathan Fields on Life, Business, Marketing, Time Management and Blogging

jonathan_fields.jpgRecently I had a chance to interview a guy I feel is by far one of the best bloggers on the web. His name is Jonathan Fields and he is definitely one of the most interesting entrepreneurs you’re ever gonna meet… the guy’s a true renegade who lives by his own rules and values…

One of the cool things about Jonathan is his story. He went from being a high powered hedge-fund lawyer to a $12-an-hour personal trainer to the owner of an amazingly-successful fitness studio to the owner of one of the top Yoga studios and Yoga schools in the country to a pro-blogger and now has a book coming out called ‘Career Renegade’... whew… that was a mouthful… and that list doesn’t even come close to everything he does.

Jonathan is also a fitness junkie, a serial entrepreneur, a hired copywriter and consultant and the proud father of a six year old girl named Jesse.

His blog Awake @ The Wheel is very well known on the web and highly respected in the Blogosphere. Jonathan covers all kinds of topics like health and fitness, business, blogging, happiness, writing and marketing.

Jonathan’s site gets a ton of traffic, has a huge base of loyal readers and often times Jonathan’s posts can be found in hard-to-reach much-sought-after Everest-style mountain tops like the front page of Digg.

Anyone who owns a business needs to blog. And I can’t think of anyone better to explain the process of becoming a pro-blogger than Jonathan Fields. In this interview, Jonathan covers…

  • Marketing
  • The Un-Written Rules of Blogging
  • How to Connect with Top Bloggers
  • One Thing You Should NEVER Do in the Blogoshere
  • Time Management
  • Following Your Passion
  • The Law of Reciprocity
  • Along with a Whole Bunch of Other Stuff You’re Gonna Find Fascinating

One of the truly amazing things about Jonathan is that he’s able to accomplish so much, while still living by his own values, enjoying life and putting his family first.
